I wouldn't even make a thread with this title unless it were true. You made my heart drop.

Whilst you're a son of a bitch for that thread title, this is a hilarious find!

I didn't think that was true, either, but the picture was so small and I've never seen the original, so I had no idea. Sure as hell didn't look like him, though.

Good book, it seems.

Frian Wilson, the imposter. Touring as Brian Wilson since the real man's death from cancer years ago. Note the mustache.

Yeah, my heart skipped a beat when glancing at the topic header a couple hours ago.

Upon reading the initial post - kinda funny a book revolving around kings of music would muck that up!

 :old

There are some old people seasoned musical veterans on this board with questionable eyesight that might have a coronary, bowel inversion or other unpleasant episode when first reading a title like that.

Present company excepted, of course.

Lucky you, when I read it it did not have the (not really) disclaimer. Just those awful four words...

I know that this title scares everyone, but you'd better get used to it... he IS 69 years old and in Brian years thats like 180...

one day, sadly, he can make SMiLE Part 2: the godly symphony to teenagers!

Hence, if we all forget that Brian will meet his eventual end like all of us, his life may be prolonged indefinitely. Beach Boys 180 year reunion show, Brian, Mike, Bruce, Al still kickin still rockin. Al is now 1.5ft tall and his ears have outgrown his head. Bruce is just a raisin in a saucepan. Mike has a voice box with a lot of midrange. Brian still has perfect hair.

Unfortunately, he's about the oldest 69-year-old I've ever seen.  Hopefully that's just appearance, but he's done some rough living.

Are you talking about appearances or behavior [closing his eyes a lot, seeming very tired]? I don't think he looks too bad, it's his fat that makes him look that way and what someone said is his plastic surgery going bad or something. If he was 1990 thin he'd look pretty good I bet. Hanging round Jeff is skewing Brian's sense of healthy weight again... seriously.

Like how the insert says that man standing with them is Murry Wilson, when it really isn't.

I recently found out that the root of that misidentification is John Tobler's book from the '70s, which has that same picture and incorrectly identifies the guy as Murry.

A lot of people tend to die when there's a sense of closure. I remember one of my philosophy instructors said how her father had cancer, and one day he decided to finally fix the tool shed after it had some problem for years, and the very next day he was dead. And remember season 3 of The Real World? Pedro Zamora died the day the final episode aired.

That's not true, but he died less than a month after. Weird enough.

Actually, he DID die the day of -- we're talking the full-bodied Sunday comic, not the abridged weekday version of the same strip.

FOTM -- don't worry; I don't think November 1 will bring Brian any sense of closure...from what I gather, he's pretty far removed from it...

Well, he retired a month before - the last strip was published in the event of his passing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanuts#The_end_of_Peanuts

I have a large book from the late 70s with that photo in it by John Tobler. He also claims that it was Murray Wilson. I don't see it. Can anyone varify?

Or mayhaps you philosophy instructor's father just overworked himself.

A lot of people die with a legit depressing amount of unfinished business. Elliott Smith's last album comes to mind, although that's probably a minor example.

Just to clarify, comic artists generally run between two and six weeks ahead of schedule in terms of drawing, and often longer ahead on the Sunday strips than the daily strips, so Schultz retired, but it took another month or so for the strip to stop running.  In the end, Schulz died the day before the last strip was scheduled to run: it was not published in the event of his passing, it would have been published anyway (the wikipedia article is a bit misleading.)

Not that anyone probably cares, but newspaper comics is one of my few non-beach-boys interests.

Ah, I see  :) I was pretty much raised on Peanuts, but being a Britisher I just had tonnes of paperback collections instead of seeing it in the paper everyday. That must have been a treat.
