Well, if you put it like that (nothing before or after the last four classic era albums plus the double live, right?):The Beach Boy's farewell album: Leaving This Town, 1973 Here She Comes Funky Pretty Only With You All This Is That Hold On Dear Brother You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone Steamboat "California Saga" Cuddle Up Sail On Sailor (Live) Marcella (Live) The Trader (Live) We Got Love (Live) Leaving This Town (Live) Mount Vernon And Fairway Trader Feel Flows All This Is That Only With You (Live) Funky Pretty Long Promised Road Add Some Music Marcella Sail On Sailor Forever Cool, Cool Water Surf' Up Day In The Life of a Tree 'Til I Die Slip On Through Our Sweet Love It's About Time Steamboat California Saga (Big Sur/Beaks of Eagles) You Need A Mess A Help Make It Good Cuddle Up We Got Love (Live) Will allow for some of the live versions to substitute album versions. That should just about fit on a triple album. See labels for correct playing order. Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: 37!ws on September 05, 2011, 08:10:40 AM Here's a lineup that always works well for me:
Wouldn't It Be Nice You Still Believe In Me That's Not Me Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) I'm Waiting For The Day Let's Go Away For Awhile Sloop John B. God Only Knows I Know There's An Answer Here Today I Just Wasn't Made For These Times Pet Sounds Caroline, No Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: PongHit on September 05, 2011, 10:02:51 AM Here's a lineup that always works well for me: ... :lol Maybe I'll try this playlist. Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: ghost on September 05, 2011, 04:28:53 PM The Beach Boys [with Brian] Live Monterey Pop Festival 1967
The Letter Darlin Aren't You Glad Good To My Baby Sloop John B That's Not Me I Know There's An Answer Our Prayer Heroes and Villains Do You Like Worms Holidays Child is the Father of the Man Surf's Up Fire Here Comes the Night With Me Tonight Wind Chimes Wonderful Whistle In This is just off the top of my head but I think it's a very cool setlist already. You begin with some cool cuts, The Letter, Good To my Baby etc until you reach I Know There's An Answer. The line up is great - Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike, Al, Bruce. Brian - baldwin organ / keyboards / bass Carl - guitar Dennis - drums Mike - theremin Al - guitar Bruce - bass / keyboards erryone singing On Holidays, Bruce plays a creepy organ sound like the "indian song" or whatever it's called instead of the vibes or marimbas. It sounds like a Doors song now. Dig this vibe everyone it's great. I like imagining The Beach Boys as this cool band with Brian that played eccentric setlists live. I mean, imagine hearing Brian rip out Good To My Baby live in 1967 if he was on some speed or something. It would be friggin' incredible! Likewise for hearing Here Comes The Night live and everything else. It could've been the greatest music at that festival. Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: ghost on September 05, 2011, 04:36:47 PM Wow so they just finished I Know There's An Answer. Who knew Mike could play banjo so well! Wow that thing was rattling everyone's bones on the outro while Brian and Bruce's keyboards played off each other, Al handling the bass and Carl on 12 string.
Oh wow they're singing Prayer from Smile now. It's angelic, masterfully performed. The entire audience is silent, awed, moved beyond. Hahahhahahahaha bam right into Heroes and Villains, Brian's on a piano banging it out ten times harder than with Humble Harv. His voice is incredible. He yelled at Denny to pick up the beat. It's fucking ROARING now. Al is bouncing, looks like he's about to take off into the sky. Bruce is head banging. Oh god the chorus.... the baldwin, it's SO LOUD. Brian moved over a seat to the Baldwin right before the chorus just in time to slam the note on. I feel my entire body vibrating. My organs are about to explode. It's pressing into my pineal gland. Why won't it channnnnnnnggggggggggggg ahhhh relief. LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA. This is MADNESS. [... sometime later...] Ok so they just played Here Comes The Night - Jim Morrison got on stage to sing with them and Ray was on organ. It was electric cool - who knew The Beach Boys were so far out. Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: rab2591 on September 05, 2011, 05:29:54 PM I've been wanting to read the book for a long time (I've only seen the movie) - I think I'll pick that up next time I'm at the bookstore. Haha now I'll be picturing nurse Ratched with a long red beard and balding head ;D
Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: FatherOfTheMan Sr101 on September 05, 2011, 05:31:02 PM I just made a thread where I actually talk about some weird simmilarites... (SPOLIERS!!!)
http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,10998.0.html Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: ghost on September 05, 2011, 05:36:57 PM Mike is nothing like her. Mike was a fun loving easy going guy who was perturbed by the concern that Brian's new entirely viable artistic music might fall on deaf ears with their usual audience, thereby causing a dramatic decline in funds.
Mike's against big brother as much as you and me, man. Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: ghost on September 05, 2011, 05:44:32 PM Time to think up some genius esoteric Beach Boys setlists
Hmm, 1967 TV spot with Brian: Wild Honey I Was Made To Love Her Here Comes The night Let The Wind Blow [Brian at the piano, boys surrounding, group vocal] Another Monterey setlist: Here Comes The Night Good To My Baby The Little Girl I Once Knew California Girls You Still Believe In Me God Only Knows I Know There's An Answer Good Vibrations Wild Honey Wind Chimes With Me Tonight Wonderful Whistle In Our Prayer Heroes and Villains Do You Like Worms Barnyard [whole crowd makes cacophonous animal noises] Child Is Father Of The Man [freak out extended piece, 10 minutes long at least] Surf's Up [full group, whole crowd sings ending tag, everyone has shivers] Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: ghost on September 05, 2011, 05:48:32 PM a setlist for a preview of Smile's greatness to a crowd:

Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: ghost on September 06, 2011, 10:29:08 AM Cool cover but the set is a bit boring. This is fantasy time, friend. Why did you not include Can't Wait Too Long? Just imagine all those stoned hippies grooving to that for 20 minutes.
Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: The Shift on September 15, 2011, 03:38:17 AM These Monterey sets are a blast, but several of you have forgotten that the best has to be saved for the encore - Fun Fun Fun, Help Me Rhonda and Barbara Ann.

That would be an epic encore, with the hippies grooving to those songs one last time in happiness before the counterculture went into the hell of 1968.Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: Smilin Ed H on September 15, 2011, 12:21:42 PM Mine's a better LA which I've posted tons of times but will do again (even if he chronolgy is impossible!):

It was amazing! God, ending with FIRE!!! That's so intense - that IS witchcraft!!! imagine at montery they play all those amazing psychedelic songs and then BURN IT ALL INTO THE ETHER with FIRE. Amazing. It could be an extended FiRE jam for 20 minutes. Brian sets the baldwin on fire and keeps playing. The crowd is mesmorized. Fire has brought about the armageddon. And the back of fantasy LA. Don't know why these aren't posting full size... Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: punkinhead on September 18, 2011, 06:07:48 PM I'm really confused as to why Good to My Baby, Fun Fun Fun, I Get Around, and Help Me Rhonda are included on a setlist for the Monterey Pop Festival, I'd think these particular songs would be considered counter-hip to the cause of the Pop show...The Boys would be laughed off the stage, especially in the 'Doris Day Striped Shirt Freedom Shirts.'

I doubt it. The crowd was there for good music. The Beach Boys were still hip, and the crowd would've respected that I think. Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: ghost on September 18, 2011, 07:23:17 PM I'm really confused as to why Good to My Baby, Fun Fun Fun, I Get Around, and Help Me Rhonda are included on a setlist for the Monterey Pop Festival, I'd think these particular songs would be considered counter-hip to the cause of the Pop show...The Boys would be laughed off the stage, especially in the 'Doris Day Striped Shirt Freedom Shirts.' exactly my plankman, thuswhy i suggested songs like Here Comes The Night and Do You Like Worms to show the world, this band is incredibly cool Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: smile-holland on September 18, 2011, 11:51:16 PM (http://i52.tinypic.com/i6efk6.jpg) And the back of fantasy LA. GOOD TO MY BABY is one of the hippest songs I've ever heard. The chord changes are the sort of thing that people THINK the Beatles do, but don't, and The Beach Boys did, but people think they didn't. Likewise with I Get Around - incredibly cool song! Ok the lyrics are a bit hokey, I'm making real good bread.... we don't care about your wealth you rich white bastard, just play that funky music. If the MOntery drops outs couldn't dig Good To Mah Baby, Run Run Run, I Get Around, then they're not cool anyway, they're posers. Help Me Rhonda, since Al Jardine has poisoned its memory by cuntrifying it... I can take or leave. Title: Re: Fantasy Albums Post by: Sam_BFC on September 19, 2011, 07:43:13 AM The chord changes in Good To My Baby are pretty standard aren't they ghost?
