Eugene Landy, talented guy no? Brian's the brains, Eugene's the genius. I've cried to Baby Let Your Hair Grow Long before. Go Eugene, RIP.

Considering Landy's name was removed from all credits on the 2000 reissue of Brian's first solo album, are we to take that as making clear that he [Landy] didn't actually contribute anything to the songwriting process?

I doubt it's that simple.

Landy wasn't legally allowed to have that kind of relationship with his client, which is why his name was removed. Neither has said how much Landy really contributed. A good song is a good song, though, regardless of what douche may have had a credit.

My favorite 1980s BB-related song I think, slightly ahead of Getcha Back, Somewhere Near Japan, Where I Belong, L&M, R&R to the Rescue, Rio Grande, Male Ego, and Kokomo. ;D

my other favorite from  B1988W is THERE'S NO OTHER.

I never tire of hearing WHERE PLANETS ARE SPINNING AROUND / PLANETS ARE SPINNING AROUND. It's better than Zoo Sounds.

Better check that title. There's No Other is from BBP lp. Try There's So Many. ;)

Say what you want about Landy, but only he seems to understand that if you wanted a good interview from Brian, you load up him on legal amphetamines. Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_yUFStXQvQ&feature=related

Yeah, Brian's completely far out in that clip... but that's the real Brian talking. Imagine if he talked about the whole Smile album with that same enthusiasm...

"IT WENT TO NUMBER ONE IN THE WHOLE NATION!"

haha, I never thought i'd see post-'69 Brian like this...

This is the album that really got me into the Beach Boys (it's true!) and I only bought it because I liked the cover and Rolling Stone said nice things about it.

I have a gushing review over in the Reviews section of this site...

"Melt Away" might be my favorite track on the album, and "Being with the One You Love" is definitely my favorite non-LP b-side from the era.

Brian's great here, I don't know how anyone could see this and feel badly for him. Why does everyone want him to be so NORMAL?

Dare I suggest that the lyrics to songs like Melt Away are as good as any on Pet Sounds? They touch me in the same emotional place almost exactly sometimes. The words have a profound way of immediately penetrating to the emotional receiver. THE WORLD'S NOT WAITING JUST FOR ME / THE WORLD DON'T CARE WHAT I CAN BE / I FEEL JUST LIKE AN ISLAND / UNTIL I SEE YOU SMILING / AND MY BLUES JUST MELT AWAY. God, it's so good. Brian's voice is perfect here. I don't understand the dislike this era of his work gets. He's on top of his game here. Melt Away is as good if not better than its brothers and sisters on Pet Sounds. Same goes for much of BW88.  Melt away.

i actually think this single -- melt away/being with the one you love --- might be the best thing Brian Wilson has ever done.

right now it's really hitting the spot for me good. brian's voice is so beautiful, it's so full of life here. so enthusiastic. so strange and spacey. the words touch my heart so deeply. i feel tears coming just hearing these two songs. i think of girls i know. just that simple joy of seeing a girl you love to see and she sees you. there's magic in it. sometimes i close off to the world, you know i close off to you girl. but when i hear you talkin, i feel my heart unlockin, and my blues just melt away. brian wilson has given us so much love, i wanna cryyyyy.... what a generous man, he has just given us his love all these years. the 1988 solo album is a therapy session in itself to hear. it HEALS EMOTIONAL WOUNDS.

this is the truth about the 1988 solo album. ghost was born that year, he knows what's going on. forget about smile. BW1988 is where it's at. Eugene Landy, bless his godly soul, was a genius. Brian was the brains - look at the clip Dada posted, Brian looks like an eccentric college science professor. Gene knew how to make it happen. The lyrics are SO BEAUTIFUL. ghost is not really an emotional person usually but brian's music is like a secret place - IN OUR PRIVATE SPACE.

the backing track to little children is absolutely amazing. have you heard that sneaky little bass in the right ear? he sneaks in romping around.

Brian would be like that today if you gave him the appropriate substances [that he himself would probably enjoy the prospect of enjoying once again]. This is the big secret about Brian Wilson - he's as mad as a hatter. A man of high intelligence yet so eccentric in his thinking that it has to be snuffed for public consumption. Brian of today is more limited than he was with Eugene Landy.

There was going to be a third 45 from the LP but it's only a promo pressing. The offical one was going to have Let's Do It Again as a B side.

Interesting. The CD3 for Night Time has One For The Boys ( LP Version) as the 2nd song

The promo had Night Time on both sides. Perhaps Let's Do It Again was rejected at the last second.
