I'm totally new to this Amazon thing. I ordered my box for $146 from Amazon.com. Can i cancel my order? I live in Canada so i might as well go for their $123 version.

It's been a week.  Kind of surprised that nothing has surfaced yet on the websites of Best Buy, Walmart, Target, etc.   Capitol must have given Amazon some sort of early exclusive.

I just went to an independent in Chicago and they said I will be able to pre-order from them, but that it isn't in their distributor's system yet. They said to come back about 2 weeks before the release to get one reserved. I am definitely going that route because I want it in my hands on release date. No worries about late shipments or breakages.

Border fees? I ordered in U.S. from Amazon.ca, about $137 altogether I think, but that could be a deal-breaker. Anyone know anything about this potential roadblock?

How did you get your for $146? When I pre-ordered it cost me $173.74. I also had to do standard shipping which means I'll probably get it about a week after 90% of this board gets theirs.  :angry

That was (briefly) the US amazon.com price before it went up to what it is now. It was originally $110. I got it for that price and it jumped to $146 less than an hour later.  :o

That $110 deal was crazy. Almost as though they put the box set on at cost then realised their mistake and added a profit margin then handling/ delivery etc a short time later. Same happened with the 2CD and 2LP.

I thought the set would be well over $200 - I jumped on that $110 deal fast....because I knew it wouldn't last long.

Either way, I'd still pay $170 for it....but I'm glad I saved $60!

According to rumblings at the Hoffman board, the $110 was a wholesale price and not the actual retail. Then again, thats  the Hoffman. Wouldn't put absolute stock in it....

I'm going to wait this out and see what my options are on November 1st.  Not only for a better price, but that I won't have to rely on Amazon mailing it to me, and that someone might offer a bonus with the box (such as a shirt, a SMiLE collectable, or even an exclusive bonus disc like Best Buy does all the time). 

When the Beatles box sets came out I waited until the day of release too.  I basically forgo the stereo box (which had the DVD of all the individual CD documentaries on it) because Target was giving out $5 gift cards for every two CDs you bought, so I bought a bunch of CDs, then used those gift cards to buy the rest (because it was The Beatles there was no shortage of stock!).  I still got all the documentaries that were included on the box DVD on those discs, and it worked out that I got a few of the CDs for FREE.

Down to £123.97 on Amazon.co.uk..

Amazon UK currently has the 2CD set priced at £11.93 (~$19) which is considerably less than the current price on Amazon US ($32.46).  Go figure.

For our people in and around Germany...JPC sells the Smile Sessions box set (pre order number 9904795)  for just  116,99 Euro - much cheaper than Amazon (130,99 Euro).  ;D

Barnes & Noble is going out of business very soon. It would be interesting to find out how they plan to handle the pre-order thing. I'll be going to one near me soon. Maybe I'll ask if they have a copy there for sale.  ;D

I seriously doubt that Barnes & Noble will be out of business by November 1.  The demise of one of their major competitors (Borders) should help them stay afloat at least through Christmas.

The $110 people keep spouting was the price it was listed for when the set first came up. A little birdie on the Hoffman said that might have been the wholesale price, not the retail, and Amazon quickly bumped it up to $140, then $171. Amazons pre-order thang means you pay the price it was when you order it no matter how it changes, so a few of us are paying one of those two.

AGD, are you sticking with your $110 box? Speediest delivery says it wouldn't get there til the 3rd at the earliest on our shores.... are you ready to wait?

Pardon my ignorance.  What is the difference between buying it at a 'supermarket' and buying it at SpinCDs.com ?

Supermarkets are one of the main factors in the death of the traditional record shop. I even feel bad buying it from Amazon.

It's kind of strange how Amazon UK is still the low-cost option for the 2CD for U.S. buyers.  That doesn't happen every day.

One could argue that Spin is better as, while it is a huge company, it is a dedicated record shop (unlike Sainsburys or Amazon) and those are getting scarce nowadays. It's kind of a moot point.  Like, if I didn't buy it from Amazon, I'd buy it from Rough Trade, hardly a company in the throes of poverty. But it's the principle of the thing, I guess.  :)

For UK buyers this would work out cheaper but for the fact that amazon.com allows import taxes to be paid as part of the order; can't see that as an option at the Canadian site.  At a guess I'd say that, taking that into account, the price difference is negligible.

Amazons UK and Com are now each listing two box sets at differing prices with different serial numbers. One on .uk is listed as an import but there's no such distinction with the .com sites.  Hope this all becomes clearer…

Well, I was going to cancel my US order and get from Amazon.UK. However, I've worked out that after import tax and shipping it's still only going to cost me £107

However, I won't get it till December probably!

So, I'm going to buy the 2cd from HMV on the release date. There is something about actually walking into a shop and buying SMiLE. A dream come true for me. And I'll still be quids in.

Although I could walk out of HMV with the boxset for £123. Oh, what to do!

I'm presuming Amazon won't take my money till Nov 1st, so, if I break, and buy the boxset from HMV, I'll still have time to cancel the order.

I'm thinking that a snap decision will have to be made on the 31st, when faced with the actual, physical boxset.

My dream of walking into a shop and buying SMiLE never factored in multiple formats and online orders.

I read this after returning from a weekend away from home.  I went to check my order status to see if the adjustment had been made to my bill.  I checked my account and was horrified to see a message saying that no orders had been found!  I pulled up my confirmation email and clicked on the order number link that they provide and again, no orders found!!  I was just about to lose it and scream and punch the computer when I noticed a small tab that said "open orders".  I clicked on it and there was my order with the new price.

Did they change something at Amazon?  Before, as soon as I clicked on my account history and track orders, my SMiLE order popped up on the first screen.  Anyways, just wanted to let you all know in case anyone had the same issue and thought their order had been lost.  Maybe I'm the only one stupid enough to do that.  It scared the sh*t out of me!!

Yikes!!  I almost didn't do the Amazon order because I had a $50 Best Buy gift card I was going to put towards the purchase.  Glad I didn't.

Well, this is interesting!  Barnes & Noble has been showing the vinyl version ($23.45), the 2 CD version ($29.91), and the box ($128.24) for some time, BUT NOW they have added another CD edition for $64.97 ($71.99 list price) available on November 8th.  They aren't showing the artwork or providing any details for this one yet.  Could this be all 5 CDs and no vinyl?  That would be cool for those who do not have any interest in the vinyl.  Personally, although I don't own a turntable (and have zero interest in owning one, thankyouverymuch), I am still going to buy the all-inclusive box.

Of course they do.  They charge when they ship, which they must do a day or two (or three) before the release date for you to get it on release day.

I'm not getting mine on release day though, I've been given the dates between Nov 20th and Dec 20th. Unfortunately I wavered when the box was first put up. I only bought it the next day, and missed the low price and hasty delivery.

Actually there could still be something there...  It's very common for Japanese releases to include bonus tracks to get people to buy their domestic pressings.  No idea if that's the case here of course.

I don't know whether it's been made obvious but is the normal box set limited edition? I'm only getting the 2CD for now, but would like to get the box for a present later on in the year, maybe even next year. Will they have sold out by then? Or maybe stopped putting the poster in?

I'm looking at getting the Box Set from either Amazon UK or HMV.com. Anybody know which one of these two is likely to package this large item best. I have never ordered 12" size items before. Thanks.

HMV is also rather more expensive iirc. Never had a problem with Amazon with my Beatles or Velvet Underground boxsets.

US $30?  You can do better than that.  It's $22.30 on Amazon US and around $19 on Amazon UK.  Even with shipping costs, those prices will be lower than $30.

Best Buy will have it in stores for $24.99 or less.

Hey all - any other Kiwi fans lurking, Monday October 31st seems to be the release date for New Zealand. Online store Fishpond is the only source showing a listing for the box - a whopping $243NZ (and that's after a 30% discount!!). One of the listings is clearly the vinyl - not sure about the other. It's called a "box" too, but $72 seems far too cheap for the big set and way too expensive for the double disc.

Okay, missed my first bus home so had time to check into it. According to UPC numbers, the $72 set is indeed the double disc. It also looks like they'll be importing item by item from the States, so this might help to explain the inflated pricing. Which means that apart from CDWow (double and single editions), no supplier in NZ even seems to have the set on their books. Have spoken to Marbecks and to JB Hifi and checked Mighty Ape, and they have no record of any edition on their systems or schedules. Bizarre.

JB hifi Aust will ship for A$18.95 to NZ making a total about A$184

My experience with JB is it will be in NZ but the question is when?

Just received an email saying that the final price on my box set ordered from amazon.ca was CA $103.20 which is $20 cheaper than when I ordered! At current exchange with british £ that means it only cost around £65, awesome!

NZ Herald had a great review but said the 14th. Cool if its early. I have the chance to travel overseas so will make do with the 2CD for now and save some bucks later in the year. What price in Wellington?

Of course you're right. I meant to say: in this particular case I chose to purchase at my regular retailers', we've become very good acquaintances over 30+ years. Moreover, I would spend € 40.00 extra this way on very, very few items on the planet in my lifetime, if at all. So out of a little 'beer money' box, and smeared out over a long time, that 40 Euro cap means zilch.

MCB - $41 at Slow Boat, but it's an independent and may have imported it themselves. Had a good few copies though. Probably $10-15 more than the chains, but at least I got to support one of the last independently-owned music stores. Fantastic range of vinyl too. A long-time favourite for rarities and general browsing if you ever get the chance to check it out.

Kind of sad that this release isn't three weeks old, and this seller (apparently an independent record seller) is so convinced he'll never sell these profitably that he says he's selling them for a loss.

I don't doubt that he is losing money at this price, but I wonder if he's being a bit hasty.  This is a special release, and I'd be willing to bet that at some point in the near future, he may regret treating it as a "fire" (gratuitous Smile reference) sale item after only 18 days.  It wouldn't surprise if the box goes out of print relatively quickly (perhaps to be replaced with a CD-only box without such elaborate packaging).

Of course, we don't know how many he ordered or how big his shop/ how large a balance he can carry as a potential loss. 
Interesting to me that when I first saw the listing and posted it here, he was asking $120, and now he's down to $115. Might be worth waiting to see if he'll keep lowering the price... 

I would at least wait until after the Holiday season.  A lot of people that couldn't afford it on release day are hoping to find SMiLE under their Christmas tree.

Last weekend at the Utrecht CD/Record Fair (Netherlands) FAME Records sold these boxes for €  109,- a piece. I would have bought right away if I it wasn't for the fact that I ordered one, which is still on it's way from the U.S. to Europe.... (waiting for over 3 weeks now  :wall )

Now $97.99 at Best Buy.
