Title: Hereos and Villains - dif versions - Beautiful Dreamer Post by: AllIWannaDo on August 22, 2011, 03:57:34 PM Hello fellow obsessives :)
I was thinkn back to when i was last watching beautiful dreamer, and a few other bits and pieces you also get with BWPS DVD, and saw a 10 sec clip of when BW first performed H&V's live as a solo artist. Is this version available to view anywhere on youtube as a whole? also, as this version is a bit before BWPS 2004 Live at Albert Hall was done, is this version dif, and if so where, to the version since put down on BWPS (and since played live like the BWPS studio version)? i think it had a musical comp of other elements, but that might just be wishful thinkn on a memory if you get me? hope it isn't. also if it is diff, would it be right to view it as a good bridging reference from SMiLE versions done in 67/68 etc, up to BWPS done 2004-onwards like, how was he viewing it at that moment when he's rediscovering it and playing with a band live for the first time in 30 years against, 2004 Albert Hall BWPS, what key elements have stayed right thru it instrumentally and vocally, same as to what is removed or then added sorry for the ramble - looking forward to some info on this, cheers for your help! Title: Re: Hereos and Villains - dif versions - Beautiful Dreamer Post by: Chris Brown on August 22, 2011, 06:08:12 PM Yes indeed that's the clip they showed in Beautiful Dreamer - it's basically the single version with "Bridge To Indians" tacked on as an ending. Being a relatively new fan and seeing him perform this live for the first time at that show (the DVD was the first Beach Boys related DVD I got) was quite an experience.

The Mrs. and I were in the audience that night (March 29, 2001). I remember when Brian announced, "Here we go with...'Heroes And Villains'..." and it didn't quite register at first. I remember thinking, "Hmm, okay, cool." And it took until Brian sang the first line that it finally clicked...the wife and I must have screamed like little girls; she nearly tore the sleeve off my sweater. And then when they did the "bridge to Indians" I almost wet myself and wondered what else they would add on and whether I'd need a body bag...well, no more add-ons, ergo no body bag.

Just the fact that he grouped "Our Prayer", "Heroes & Villains" and "Surf's Up" together seemed like an acknowledgment that this material was important (he introduced "Surf's Up" as a song that combines music and poetry). "Heroes & Villains" was the 45 single version, of course, with the "Bridge to Indians" added to the end.

I'd love to have been there has this been circulating anywhere? really interested to hear this from 2001 Title: Re: Hereos and Villains - dif versions - Beautiful Dreamer Post by: Andrew G.
