Title: Figuring out Trombone Dixie Post by: puni puni on August 18, 2011, 12:14:24 PM http://soundcloud.com/ynnhoj/trombone-dixie-huge-pain-in
So basically I tried to recreate TD but lost hope and gave up. The worst part is the 12-string -- I have no idea what's being played. Can anyone help me out? Also, I dunno what instruments are being used. I can tell there must be trumpets, saxophone, piano, and trombone. Title: Re: Figuring out Trombone Dixie Post by: Andrew G. Title: Re: Figuring out Trombone Dixie Post by: bossaroo on August 18, 2011, 02:32:46 PM i love this tune. the intro is my current ringtone. love that guitar part.
i might have a chord chart somewhere if that helps? i'd love to know what Brian's intentions were with this track. Title: Re: Figuring out Trombone Dixie Post by: Ebb and Flow on August 18, 2011, 02:47:47 PM i'd love to know what Brian's intentions were with this track. In the fall of '65 Brian seemed to enjoy doing instrumental exercises in the studio, perhaps to prepare him for what he did in the months ahead on Pet Sounds. I think "Three Blind Mice" was an experiment with strings and "Trombone Dixie" was an experiment with horns. IMO neither track was intended for commercial release. I don't think Brian has ever said anything about it other than "we junked it" or something to that effect. Lee Here's what I came up with for the percussion section, after listening to the session repeatedly a few years back: Drums: Hal Blaine Tympani: Jerry Williams Tambourine: Ron Swallow Bicycle bell: Jerry Cole (only in the Intro) Castanets: Julius Wechter (only in the Intro) Vibraphone: Julius Wechter Looking at it now, and without going back to actually listen to it again at the moment, I'm wondering if the bicycle bell in the intro was really the OTHER Jerry (Williams). Makes sense. Hmmm. |
