I have two questions that I'm sure someone can answer. If so, please do, the questions drowned on two other threads.

The recording on the GV box set disc 2 track 20 section 5 starting at 1:39 - what is the recording date of that piece?

And I always assumed that this recording was used as the base for the H&V chorus in the 1967 released version, is that right?

Remind us what that piece sounds like?

It's the piece that the BWPS version of "Heroes & Villains" replicates for its chorus, right?

Yes, and I think it is also audible in the "Hawthorne Ca" stereo version of H&V. Do you know the original recording date of that one? The vocalless mix on the GV box set is so much more intriguing than the actual H&V chorus IMHO.

Patience...all will be revealed.  OK, maybe not ALL, but certainly this. 
In the meantime, be grateful that when BWPS was performed & recorded, the bass line from that part (missing from the 45/SMILEY SMILE version) was resurrected.

Maybe someone on this board already knows the recording date? If not, I doubt the date for each recording will be revealed on the SMiLE sessions box.

Yes, but you should realize that "c-man" is actually working on the SMiLE Sessions box himself, so I think we can trust that this info will be available soon.

I believe Mark was forced to use this section in the HAWTHORNE, CA stereo mix because the original chorus backing track was not available...which I was thrilled with because I dislike the heavy Baldwin organ chords on the original single. That it was retained for the BWPS version was also very pleasing.

Hmmm... unlikely, as he obviously had the vocals on multitrack and mixed them in stereo. So some kind of backing track must have been on the multitrack too.

Trust me, this one will be.

I have no certainty about this at all, but I seem to remember that the Baldwin organ part in the chorus was only found on the mono mix master or something to that effect. In other words, it was an overdub done at a later stage than what was represented on the multi-tracks.

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks - I love the Baldwin parts, which is why I really dislike the Hawthorne, CA mix  :P

What about the slow "My Children Were Raised" and "Sunny Down Snuff" sections that precede the ending chorus on the Hawthorne version?  Any parts of these likely recorded before Smiley?

I have no idea. The interesting thing about "So/unny down snuff" is the split vocal between Brian and Mike. The cantina section has a similar split: Brian high first part, Mike lower second part. There's also a version out there with the verses split between Brian and Mike, so it could be from an earlier incarnation with all split vocals yet unheard, but there is absolutely no way to tell for me. My guess though is that the Snuff section is Smiley era.

The split vocals are like how in TV shows they show two people saying something similar but with slight differences. Brian & Mike are both speaking aloud of their own lives yet each it going a different way fundamentally. Heroes & Villains, it's the duality of I-and-Thou.

Sometimes it takes a cover to realize how great the original really is. Listen to how cool Heroes sounds on vinyl. The organ is MINDBLOWING by the end of the song. Goodness!

Superb! This guy is a genius. I almost prefer this to the original. Did he do any more B covers I wonder?

Not that I know of or have seen posted or mentioned anywhere. It's a cool cover - really shows how wonderful all the melodies really are and how brilliantly placed each part really is. We overlook the single version of Heroes because of the mix and the organ and everything it WASN'T. But when it's broken down like this you really see that Brian was still working with a highly developed sense of songwriting.
