Title: Beach Boys cover removed Post by: dmcguire70 on July 04, 2011, 04:21:49 PM I had a cover of "Beach Boys Our Prayer-Gee-COVER-A Capella" on You tube which had been on there for ages and which has now been removed due to copyright infringement. My question is ,how is it copyright infringement when the material contains all of my vocals and I even wrote COVER on the video title.
Really peed off about this!! You can try and appeal, but if the publisher has requested you remove the song, tough luck. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=6f0057f27e7ba043&hl=en Title: Re: Beach Boys cover removed Post by: Sam_BFC on July 04, 2011, 04:56:26 PM It's cos it sounded so close to the original man!!!
Take it as a compliment ? :o In all honesty it is pretty lame they removed it; your stuff is great. I've got a heap of BB covers but I'm wondering why they deleted that particular video and not others I have. .I'm thinking about copying and then removing all of my BB covers as I'm worried they are going to delete my channel. :'( Title: Re: Beach Boys cover removed Post by: bgas on July 04, 2011, 08:55:07 PM It's cos it sounded so close to the original man!!! Have you been paying your royalties for the rights to use the songs you've covered? Title: Re: Beach Boys cover removed Post by: SurfRiderHawaii on July 04, 2011, 09:07:47 PM I think it's a grey area, somewhat, if you do a cover but aren't selling it or making any money off of it. You Tube has millions of covers.
I'd imagine it would only be taken down if there was an official complaint by the copyright holder or agent for. CAP Records probably has some kid going thru Y T for Smile stuff and he/she doesn't know the BB from the High Llamas. Wish I had heard it! If it was that good, yeah, maybe it said cover but they thought it was really the BB Smile version. Even so, there's 1000's of BB videos on You Tube - weird. I'd just re-post it. No all my covers aren't SMiLE related and why would I be paying royalties for songs which I don't make any money from. The other thing is ,I have other BB covers which have advertising over the top ,such as my Good Vibrations cover which i posted last week. So somebody is making money of them and it sure as hell ain't me.It's quite bizarre. I just do it for the pure enjoyment of it, just like the thousands of others on You Tube who post covers of there favourite artists. Title: Re: Beach Boys cover removed Post by: Curtis Leon on July 05, 2011, 12:43:00 AM You may want to consider just uploading the collected MP3/FLAC/WAVs to a file sharing site like Mediafire and spreading them around. Sure, it's not as glamorous as Youtube, but at least people will still be able to hear your work.
