Title: Look/ B's 9th symphony Post by: Mahalo on June 28, 2011, 05:57:09 AM I gave Beethove's entire 9th symphony a few good listens over the past week and I noticed that in the final famous movement that everything drops out out and marching music begins that sounds very similar to the marching music of Look; as far as instrumentation goes, and melodicaly it is not that far off either. Wasn't sure if this deserved it's own thread but the sound is very much of a "pop symphony" at that part...Do we know to what extent that the famous composers of history had affected Brian's approach to writing? I know he's mentioned Bach before, but anyone else?

Being as into music as he was/is, I'm sure Brian has heard him share of classical music, so what you're saying could indeed be true. I can't really compare it to anything specific, but it just sounds so classical. It is one of my favorite moments out of all of Brian's music. Yeah, I there is an obscure 'Look' vibe in that last section....not a definite similarity, but still a vibe. And I just realized how similar 'Look' and 'Holidays' are (with that marching beat)....interesting what one can still find after hundreds of listens. I remember mentioning on another thread that it sounded like 'Look' had the potential to be a great pop song, and then someone commented on how another popular 60s era song had a similar marching beat - I totally forgot what the song was - anyone know?
