Title: New Doris Day Album
Post by: Rob Dean on June 03, 2011, 03:01:22 AM
First release of new recordings in 17 years , heavy involvement by both Bruce and the late Terry Melcher.

Including a cover of Disney Girls ( possibly the most covered BB's related song , other than God Only Knows )

This may be a new album, but if Terry produced this then these recordings must be at least 7 years old and older. Still as reclusive as she is, I'm surprised at seeing this album being released. Good for her.

I don't think so. Just a gut-feeling

It seems to me that there should be another term used other than "brand-new" to describe tracks written and produced by someone who passed away seven years ago. Also, I hope Ms. Day's quote about having to record modern songs was taken out of context given the listed tracks that quote follows were written half her life ago.

Of course, one could argue the 60s material is modern and the stuff written over the past few decades is post-modern...

>>Legendary Hollywood singer and actress Doris Day will release 'My Heart', her long-awaited new studio album, on 5th September 2011.

This exciting collection is Doris Day’s first studio album of new material in 17 years; a dozen songs of a timeless quality, with nine brand-new recordings produced by Day’s late son, Terry Melcher, plus a trio of Day classics.

Ms. Day has been fully involved with the musical selections for this special release. Her son Terry Melcher – who was known as a songwriter and producer for folk-rock pioneers The Byrds ('Mr. Tambourine Man') and other artists – co-wrote four of the new songs with Beach Boys member Bruce Johnston: the emotional title track ‘My Heart,’  the romantic ‘The Way I Dreamed It,’ the haunting ‘Happy Endings’ – sung by Melcher with a newly recorded spoken-word introduction by Day for her fans – and the catchy new Doris Day single release ‘Heaven Tonight.’ <<

Actuall could the 'Happy Endings' be the BB's - Little Richard song ??? Considering that was a Bruce/Terry composition !!

Yes it is. This recording from ca. 1985 pre-dates the Beach Boys’ version, and may in fact be the demo of the song (minus Doris Day´s introduction of course).

"Heaven Tonight" we know as "Let´s Visit Heaven Tonight", recorded by the Captain & Tennille and Bruce himself (a Curt Becher production).

A Doris Day/Terry Melcher duet recording of "Make It Big" seems to stay unreleased.

Can I have some of what you're smoking?  :hat

Sure, DG has been covered a few times (Art Garfunkel, et al.), but it can't possibly be #2 among most covered BB songs, considering all the renditions out there of Good Vibrations and California Girls, among countless other BB hits.

Yes, she literally lives just above my Mom.
Better not leave the dogs in the car in Carmel though - those old hippie women will call the cops on you even if it's 45 degrees outside.
