Soooo, you gonna go to the dinner? It would be interesting to see in that sort of venue, and a good cause. Even if they do Kokomo. :p Didn't know you were from that area - hopefully you and yours have stayed safe! We have relatives in Alabama and Oklahoma - they always freak about CA earthquakes and I tell ya, I'd take a shaker any day of the week! Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Huntsville Hospital Foundation Fundraiser - May 13, 2011 Post by: ? on May 14, 2011, 09:40:53 PM I'm about 45 minutes from Huntsville and the tornados sucked. That said, wish I would have known about this last night. I would have gone instead of staying in and watching Friday the 13th movies. Oh well. You win some, you lose most of them...

I saw it reported after the fact... I don't think any of the other stations even reported it at all. I thought it was pretty cool for them to do that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZQHaW1n6s8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DabiJikFnGc found a couple clips from the concert for you and stay safe out there. Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Huntsville Hospital Foundation Fundraiser - May 13, 2011 Post by: Ron on May 17, 2011, 06:45:05 AM Fox reports the NEWS?!?! Yup! And slanted way to the right! Notice how the news is about the Beach Boys; a republican band. If Coldplay were having a fundraiser, they probably wouldn't even report it, geesh. Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Huntsville Hospital Foundation Fundraiser - May 13, 2011 Post by: OBLiO on May 17, 2011, 11:02:56 AM Fox reports the NEWS?!?! Yup! And slanted way to the right! Notice how the news is about the Beach Boys; a republican band. If Coldplay were having a fundraiser, they probably wouldn't even report it, geesh. I'm not sure why this thread is turning into a Fox News bashing fest... The Beach Boys are perfect example of what the United States is all about. Individuals making something of themselves. What does Brian say? "I'm a hard working guy" What is Brian doing? Working. What are the Beach Boys doing? Working. The Beach Boys helped define our culture and represent the opportunities this country has to offer. The Beach Boys are an American Band... a United States of America band. You know why they get that honor? Because they worked themselves up from nothing. Anyone can do it here in the United States of America. If Coldplay were not anti-American they might get a nod from Fox because as far as I can tell, Fox is Pro-America. They believe in the American ideal... not the American dream, but America as an idea... that each man has the ability to rule himself. Ted Nugent gets a nod from them all the time. I don't see them as having a left or right agenda. Let's see... they have Bob Beckel, Alan Colmes, Kirsten Powers, and Juan Williams on there all the time. And what was it with Juan Williams... oh yeah NPR fired him because they didn't like something he said... freedom of speech?... keep an eye out for his book because he is writing one... and I don't agree with him 99% of the time but he makes me think... and guess what? After he was fired by NPR, Fox hired him. Bill O'Reilly got his back and helped him out and stood up for him. The Beach Boys are able to give because they have something to give. They have something to give because they worked for it. That's why Fox reported it and no one else did. I thought it was nice thing to do and very charitable. Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Huntsville Hospital Foundation Fundraiser - May 13, 2011 Post by: OBLiO on May 17, 2011, 12:23:05 PM No worries... it looked like it might have taken off in that direction.
I did a little search and found the 2008 Chris Martin jab at Fox in one of their songs. Here's the link... http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/12/coldplay-lyrics-take-a-swipe-at-bill-oreilly/ ----- The idea for the song, “Violet Hill,” came to Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay, while watching Fox News one night. Rolling Stone picked up on the references, asking Mr. Martin in an interview: “Was the song inspired by Fox News?” “No one’s got that before, no one in the band, no one,” Mr. Martin replied. The band, he said, wrote the first line and the first little melody of the song years ago, but didn’t finish it until last year. “One day I was watching Bill O’Reilly, and I was like, ‘I know how to finish that song,’” Mr. Martin told the magazine. “My best friend, Tim, he’s a musician in a band called the High Wire, but he also has to work in a bar. He was having trouble with his boss, and it made me think that so many people spend their lives being told what to do by people that they just don’t like. So it was that idea, and watching Bill O’Reilly, and all these words just came out.” ----- His friend doesn't HAVE to work there and bosses usually tell you what to do and there is a reason for that. oh well. Here's an idea, how about Chris buy the bar and hire his friend to run it? That would be nice and charitable and he might even find out why he has trouble with the boss. ;D Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Huntsville Hospital Foundation Fundraiser - May 13, 2011 Post by: Jason on May 17, 2011, 12:26:58 PM No worries... it looked like it might have taken off in that direction. Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Huntsville Hospital Foundation Fundraiser - May 13, 2011 Post by: OBLiO on May 17, 2011, 12:58:10 PM I understood your post was just a comment, initially... it was Ron's post I was responding to mainly, because the thread could have become a bash fest instead of a "that was a cool thing the Beach Boys did" thread. Personally, it doesn't matter to me what the news source is that reports a good deed. Ron referenced Coldplay and I found some info on a Coldplay bash of Fox news. I posted that info because it explains why Fox might not want to report any deeds that Coldplay might do, which they probably would anyway, if Coldplay went to Alabama and did the good deed like the Beach Boys. The whole left right thing is a big distraction. There are real people in trouble out there and the Beach Boys offered up some assistance. I'd like to see more help for them out there.

I too am a bit dismayed at the lack of celebrity response for some of these things. Perhaps because of the economic climate, perhaps political. To me, helping people is never political. Unfortunately, we know better, don't we? Ok, Chris Martin was on the Simpsons - but that's just one type of Fox. That brings me to the horror that is Fox news, and their lack of "reportage" on anything but right wing bands. For instance, Devo: http://video.foxbusiness.com/v/4254989/devo-releases-first-album-in-20-years Or related, Jihad Jerry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KnNYzTBVoY Or maybe, Johnny Rotten?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqUzAAjkH98 Wait, this isn't working out right. Oh noes! Not Stephen Malkmus!: http://wn.com/Stephen_Malkmus_on_Red_Eye At least generation Y is safe with Dick Valentine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q__GlFtfQSw&feature=related Noooo! Dick, whyyyyyy?!? You bastards! Ruined my talking points!! Ok, so it's not all Ted Nugent! :p Title: Re: The Beach Boys - Huntsville Hospital Foundation Fundraiser - May 13, 2011 Post by: drbeachboy on May 17, 2011, 05:34:36 PM It's really a bitch when doing a good deed is judged by who covers it and by political affiliation. Can't they just do the deed for the good of it?
