I have Verizon Wireless and got the WIBN ringtone directly from them.  Think it was $1.99.

If it was an AT&T phone, and through itunes, you can make the argument that you "own the ringtone" because you bought it and it should be re-installable from them with a link to your phone.  I had a similar experience, with another "BB ditty" when switching to an iphone, and they were pretty nice.  What I had to do was to call Customer Service, and show that I owned the ringtone from my previous phone, give them a credit card number which they charged, and then removed the charge, immediately.  They will usually do it once for you.

There are ways to make ringtones, and I am sure you can get someone techie oriented (which I am not) to make a small clip from music that you own outright.

But, I feel your pain...You never want to pay twice!  Bravo to you!  ;)

If you did not change carriers it probably is easier.

Depending on how hi-tech your phone is, if you can play music on it odds are you'll be able to make it your ringtone....
