With all the SMiLE hoopla I'm pretty much obsessed with reading this book.

Also, with SMiLE being released, is it possible a new new edition will be published?

You could, but you'd have to search a lot and be patient.

Keep an eye on ebay.  Just checking, one ended recently without any bids at $19.99.  If you sent the seller a message he would probably sell it to you at that price.  It's required reading on Smile, but the scrapbook format is more than a little messy.  Sometimes it gets a little frustrating.

Here's a question for anyone that knows, what exactly is the difference between the first pressing and the revised edition?  I'm pretty sure my copy is the first but I'm too lazy to check right now.

2nd edition was published by Last Gasp (1st was Surfin' Colors), and is 299 pages (first was 265)

Back when I had a laptop in school, I used to while away boring Sociology lessons on ebay. Was rumbled when I lost LLVS by a matter of seconds and got, well, agitated  :lol

I got a used copy off ebay a couple months ago for $14.99 (buy it now) including shipping. I would have mistaken it for a brand-new copy had it not wreaked of cigarette smoke LOL.

So definitely keep checking ebay as well.

It took me a second, but at first I was thinking like making a move on a woman. I was like, how does one lose a book by doing that?

I'd suggest everybody on the board goes to Amazon and clicks the "tell the publisher you'd like to see this on kindle" button.

At the very least it will tell the publisher there is still interest in the book - worst case they'd have it available electronically, best case is maybe do a print-on-demand and get some more books in circulation! The timing couldn't be better!

Copies come up frequently for under $40 - just keep watching.

I actually did this a few months before the 33 1/3 'Song Cycle' (VDP) came out on kindle. I saw the 'Buy It New' price was a whopping $4,999.00 and decided it would be worth clicking on the "tell the publisher" link....and a few months later it was on kindle and it was being re-printed. I really think it helps.

I guess I didn't realize that it was that rare-I got mine 10 years ago brand new off of Amazon, for only about 15 bucks, I believe.

I got a copy on Amazon about 2 years ago for less than $25.

No sh*t -  you could have had mine for $4,500!

I always wonder about people that actually spring for books at prices even close to that!  :o Wow, just wow.
I don't know how many times I've seen them come back in print after the fact.
Even with out of print LP's and such you're running a risk unless they're truly vintage.
If there's demand for a product it will come back, one way or the other.

I think there might have been a problem with eBay that day!  Or someone taking the piss…

Currently going for over $200 new on Amazon. You can pick up some used copies for under $50, who knows if the release of SMiLE next week will push up the price in November? I'm glad I got my copy in 1999.

2nd edition has, of course, more updated info, but the original version is a much more fun read.

I picked mine up for £20 in 2009! Honestly....

I just checked mine and it still has the price sticker and date 12/88 @14.95..I thnk I picked it up in Laguna Beach when I lived in So Cal. ;D

I lucked out a couple of years ago at a local used book & cd store.  I found two copies, not sure which edition, for $8 each.  I bought one and left the other for another lucky soul.

I've got a copy of the Surfin' Colors release of LLVS.  It's well loved, but still in decent shape.  If you're willing to cover shipping I'd be willing to give it to you.
