All for a good cause, and stuff. And I would die if I had those lyrics. Bid, bid, bid!

It's good to see them all getting involved for this. What a good purchase for whoever wins it!

Arg....it's times like these that I wish I made a little more $ than I do.

I could actually do 300 right now.

But why bother, it's just going to go higher and higher.

But why bother, it's just going to go higher and higher.

And your bid would bounce back; It was at 301( hmmm, legendary BBs numbering)  when I checked just now. Current high bid by a new member with zero feedback( probably won't pay)

The set is presumed to include:

The Beach Boys "God Only Knows" lyrics (framed), handwritten and autographed by Brian Wilson.
RIAA-certified Platinum album award for The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds with Platinum LP autographed by Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston, personalized with the winning bidder's name.
The Beach Boys Pet Sounds Sessions box set.

But there are no photos for the platinum award and the handwritten lyrics; so either they haven't been signed yet, or??  And will the personalization be in the hand of one of the four persons listed( maybe all four?), or by some non-descript hand?
Language experts: does it say the lyrics are handwritten by someone(unknown) or personally by Brian?
Because breaking the line down into smaller sections changes the context.

So, Brian is going to auction off framed hand written lyrics to one of the greatest songs of his career, included in a cd set? Something doesn't seem right about this.

He takes a piece of paper, writes 11 lines, signs it and gives it to charity. I don't see the issue. Many so called celebrities sell off their signature for their own gain.

I didn't think about it that way. I assumed it meant the ORIGINAL lyric sheet.

… which would be by Tony Asher, yes?

Hmm, over a thousand now.

Little out of my price range

The Beatles organization is auctioning off a retro-style Yellow Submarine themed bicycle for the same cause.

So this is not the original lyric sheet and may or may not be written by Brian and/or Tony Asher in their own hand? That's a big part of the value up in the air!

Well I can only assume Brian has written them. Seems to be the way to get the best price and the norm I would expect.

Like this.

BUT those are SUSA lyrics written and signed by David Marks.
Who cares about that??

The market!

Brian GOK's GBP1000 and climbing.

Everything is worth what someone wants to pay.

Oh, I see!  You're saying the Dave one is worthless, because no one is buying it.

No I'm saying everything is worth what someone wants to pay.

If you auction your house and there are no bidders does your house become worthless?

Back to Brian. If he does this once only then its value increases. If he decides to do a thousand it will not be worth as much.

Yes , maybe.
But isn't something that nobody wants, basically worthless?
Plus, as refers to Brian signing, I wouldn't say it's a given that it will increase in value; tho I'd agree on the second part
Still, as he didn't write the lyrics, it would seem to lessen their value; were he to write out the music, now that would be something!

I guess a lot of it is timing. At the moment David has a low profile but as an example, if the Beach Boys were to do a huge 50th gig this new years eve that was broadcast live on a major network and he was front and center his profile is raised and someone may pay that price for his signature.

With Brian I meant if he sits down and writes the lyrics once, that copy is worth more now than if he sat down and did multiple copies.

Just a bit off topic but on the subject of memorabilia. A story I heard about 10 years ago may be a urban myth but like most stories the teller new the person involved so its true!!!. ;)

Guy goes to Australia to get some classic cars but has no joy so ends up buying a crappy old Harley. Gets the engine number etc and gets in contact with the HD people for help getting parts. Phone call one day and its the head honcho of HD asking questions about the bike. When he is happy with the owners answers he said he is in the position to offer here and now $1m for the bike as is. The buyer can't believe it and asks why? The HD guy says remove the fuel tank from the frame and call me back.

The guy does what he is asked and looks under the tank

TO ELVIS. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. JAMES DEAN.

True. Who knows?

edit...Just had a look online and seems to be a myth. But a good one!

Wish I could but we are all going to pay for Japan in another way. You watch your insurance premiums rise this year! :thud

Very possible!
Still,  the auctions are "giving".

The auction is over.

Winning bid: GBP 4,675.00
 Approximately US $7,670.27

Kinda wish I had thought to bid, so I'd know who the winner is.

Sadly, ebay doesn't tell you that. But that's a metric fucktonne of cash! Nice one, wealthy Beach Boys fans!

True. But if you bid, then you can, at the very least, see the full ID of the winning bidder.
