Was this Hal Blaine's first contribution to a BB track? Steve Douglas is in there too (also for the first time?).
In fact these two players (and the fabulous group harmonies) carry the song. More SG magic. 5.

2. Nice pretty tune, wouldn't skip if listened to album start-finish. But wouldn't choose it solely to hear it.

According to Jon Stebbins, "David broke out his old Sears Silvertone acoustic" for this one. Was this his last BB session first time round?
Lovely song, great chords. 5.

If SUSA saw the Boys progressing by leaps and bounds, Surfer Girl was their first truly great album. Brian's officially at the helm, Alan and David are both on board and so is Maureen, with first tentative Wrecking Crew appearances by Hal Blaine and Steve Douglas.
It combines an astonishing degree of maturity, considering their ages at the time, with an innocence and real joy that was not to last long.
Looked at that way, perhaps it's their finest hour. 5.

I gave it a solid 4. Not quite there yet, but showing great potential.

I gave it a 3. Not a bad song. Hard to imagine the BBs, especially Brian and Mike, "get(ting) up every morning before the roosters."

Also giving it a three. It's not great, nor is it horrible.

Hard to imagine the BBs, especially Brian and Mike, "get(ting) up every morning before the roosters." Maybe if they strapped the roosters down and gagged them----or fed them recreational birdseed. Anyway... Not a song I can often be seen leaping up and down to. 4.

I've never felt entirely comfortable with "Betsy"----probably something to do with those four descending chords at the close.
4.
