I remember several months ago when the rumours first began that the San Francisco Civic Auditorium had a reserved date for the Beach Boys in 2012. :o

I can only hope so! Nice venue. Hope they don't decide to do the ampitheatre route and play at the *shudder* Shoreline.... Never been to a show there I actually enjoyed. Though seeing BW perform at Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit was pretty awesome. Sitting a quarter mile away in grass getting contact high though. Fuq dat.

April show is the weekend of the 27th. Three shows in Japan, according to the Rolling Stone interview.

So did I, managed to get 2 tickets for Stuttgart. I just hope they don't cancel the show. Happened to me once in Glasgow, after flights and accomodation were booked and paid.

The German locations have capacities of 15,500 and 17,000. Would be very cool if they manage to sell those out.

San Francisco Civic Auditorium has been changed to the Bill Graham Civic Aud.   I saw The Boys there in December 1974 and the band really rocked this indoor venue.  Dennis was really banging this skins that night with a very short haircut.   I think they should be able to draw more than this building can hold.

Are these guys really gonna do a grand total of over 100 shows (foriegn & domestic combined)
over a 12-18 month period?

Can they do that many shows? is it the money?

I would think, and I know very little about the financial aspect
of a large worldwide tour, thats a lot of shows, couldnt you make
the same money, by doing say half that many shows

The only number anyone has mentioned is a "50-date international tour."

At this point, I would trust the official press release over Al. He has a history of saying slightly nutty things about a reunion.

The band has agreed to and announced it will play 50 dates. That's all.

Well granted, they will be traveling first class, with a compliment of technicians, roadies
and staying in the best hotels etc.

However at 70 years of age, even fifty shows seems like a lot to me. but over a hundred seems
crazy, given their age, and all the delicate politics between them, and the complexity of the
harmonies.

I don't like the parking and huge crowds and prices, but I love watching the DVD's of a historical
tour like this. I assume there will be a live album and DVD at some point to document all this
I can't wait for that.

50 shows, spread-out over a year, is an average of about 1 per week. When Brian and Mike/Bruce tour, don't they usually do more than 1 per week? I think Mike/Bruce sometimes do 2 per day.

Mike and Bruce play up to 100 shows a year now. Most years, Brian does about 40. Not sure for Al.

This seems like a compromise number to ensure everyone is able to do all the shows. Brian won't be the front man,  after all, so I'd think the shows would be less stressful for him.

There will be lots of musicians and vocalists.  Even on a bad night, Brian's band gets the job done.  Add to that the vocals of Al, Bruce, Mike, Scotty, and John C., and they should be able to get through 100 shows over the course of a year.   If one performer gets laryngitis, someone else can pick up the slack.

Mike & Bruce have been known over the past decade to do around 150-170 shows a year...including some private shows that aren't listed.  40 sounds about right for Brian, possibly more shows during the busier touring years.  Al does a few public shows, a few private shows that aren't listed publicly either, but his total number of shows is i'm guessing 10-15?  Same for David?

I'd be glad to have them do 50 shows and still keep the good vibes going within the group.  As for Mike & Bruce's other dates...how will they prevent confusion between the Mike & Bruce shows and the full reunion shows?  Both are billed as The Beach Boys.

Excellent point.... And what happens AFTER the 50th anniversary tour when punters buy tickets expecting to see Brian, Al  and Dave - oh, and Jeff - up here with Mike and Bruce? Or is this also a retirement "farewell" tour?

I have been thinking the very same since the reunion tour was announced , its very much IMO a no turning back scenario for all concerned HENCE this just maybe the last we get to see all the respective guys on stage ( which considering age etc should not be a great surprise ) I personally hope not.
The behind the scenes for the last few months has possibly been rather interesting , even possibly BRI revoking Mikes licence to use the BB's name in the future WHO KNOWS ? One thing is for sure , in that with this Tour there are going to be a number of very talented musicians out of work

Maybe Brian really will retire after this tour and Al and Dave will continue touring with Mike & Bruce.

I've been thinking too that this may be the scenario Mike uses to retire. 

It's bad for people with mental issues to retire. You need something to occupy your mind, to stop you from ruminating.

 I think Mike honestly loves being a performing Beach Boy too much to stop touring until health issues force it.

That could be too, and I don't mind if he tours until he's 100, I've never been the type to think somebody's too old to do anything...


Mike is a very proud person, though.  It's completely within his character to think that this tour with Brian is a good way to go out, and then he can live out his days thinking he did the honorable thing for his cousin, they buried the hatchet and did it one last time for old time's sake, etc.  I really believe Mike wants redemption.  Even when Mike sues Brian he has a way of thinking it's really for Brian's good. 

Like you said though I think he probably enjoys nothing in the world more than being on stage, so I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

My Stuttgart tickets just arrived along with a used copy of Jon Stebbins' "The Real Beach Boy", what a day!  :afro  2012 is going to be a busy year with Beach Boys, Nazareth, Van Halen, KISS, Metallica & Johnny Clegg touring. Now the only thing missing is the Stones reuniting with Bill Wyman. (which they did at least for a jam session couple of weeks ago).

Mike will be performing till the day he croaks. And then long after that his ghost will still be chicken dancing in arenas all around the country.

Ocean Way sounds like a terrible name to me for a number of reasons.

1) it's just not a catchy album title.
2) Ocean connotes a "fun and sun" album, which is what we (or at least I) don't want.
3) the phrase "Ocean Way" is meaningless if you don't know that it was the studio. are we trying to be like Abbey Road? Abbey Road was a great title for that album because of the Beatles' relationship with the studio. it's arguable that Abbey Road the album is the best of what Abbey Road Studios has to offer.

Just a thought for any Australia/ NZ shows. Main touring season for overseas acts is summer of course but I would not rule out Nov/ Dec. Brian has toured Australia twice in those months. Would fit any proposed outdoor shows.

Does not fit in with the idea it will all be over in August but I think the tour will be broken in to several sections.

To be honest it is all probably going well behind the scenes. The band and/ or its management will name its terms and send it to prospective promoters. It is up to them to crunch the numbers and decide if they can get the venues and turn a profit. That will be happening now I expect.

The Beach Boys probably have little or no input into putting the 2012 tour together.

My rationale is, one run through. Split into sections, one or more participants might have the time to think "do I really want to do this ?". Of course, based on (recently) past events, there's a faction here that would immediately assume I have some kind of inside track on this. This amuses me no end.  :)

Pushing those summer hits will be a hard sell in winter then. Better go the PS, SMiLE, Holland etc route instead.

With you on the UK dates, I think people will want to avoid London during that time so it could backfire. Imagine trying to get to and from venues around then. Uh. Early/mid July or Aug please!

I know the BB have now and then demonstrated some questionable decision making... but I think that even they'd know about the London Olympics this year.

However, I guess you're right - if they were invited to take part in the event, it would be best for us if they declined.

Either Al or Bruce said they specifically wanted to play the Olympics. I get the attraction, and it's certainly not unknown for the M&B Show to play at major sporting events....but for people who are BB/music enthusiasts and not interested in the Olympics it would be a waste if they only played during those two weeks. the prediction is that most other tourism will sharply decline during the Olympics and Paralympics. The people who visit London for theatre, concerts, shopping and sight-seeing will stay clear.

Don't get me wrong, I am proud that we've got the Olympics and I hope we do a great job. I just have no interest in witnessing the event live, I work very close to one of the venues and already know I need to take at least 6 days off as it will be literally impossible transport-wise for me to get to work. The wife and I have made the decision to be well away from London for the entire two weeks.

Seeing as it's sort of a second home for Brian, I'd vote for the RFH either before the Olympics in June or well after in September.

London... Overpriced, small hotel rooms at the best of times. Imagine what it'll be like during the Olympics...

You're staying in the wrong hotels, then. While London is an old city and therefore space is at a premium, there are large hotel rooms to be had - and not at exhorbitant prices. Try The Grange, The Tower, Club Quarters, The City Hotel, any Holiday Inn.

But it's true there are rooms much smaller than you'd find even in the budget sector in the USA. Pretty much the same across western Europe.

However I shall be avoiding London during the games.

There are two sections - one says Beach Boys tickets, the other says, quite explicitly, Beach Boys Reunion Tour Dates and lists the three known shows. Granted, one date is common to both, but I feel even the dimmest BB fan on the planet can discern the difference.

Right, I didn't see that you could scroll down further. The text doesn't make it clear though, because it's only talking about the reunion. To a non fan this could be irritating. And it looks like Brian wrote a few songs with Kevin Love  :-D

Wondering if there will be cases of a well-meaning spouse or family member ordering reunion tickets as a "surprise" for their favorite Beach Boys fan, only to find the real surprise happens when that person gets the gifted tickets and they're for the Mike and Bruce show instead... :p

Maybe they should book the reunion gigs as The Pendletones.

I just saw on facebook that there are "rumours Boston and Houston have confirmed" Beach Boys reunion dates. Maybe we'll have an official statement soon

There are large hotel rooms to be had in London. I've stayed in a suite with superking bed, conference table, two huge TV's and 17 armchairs in central London for £120 a night.

I wonder why there has been so much time between the German dates going on sale and the rest of the dates being announced? It's getting quite close now and there is absolutely nothing to go on!

By booking the two German concerts, or by announcing them? Either way, tickets are going well, no catastrophe here.
It's a bit odd though, to have the two German concerts among the first to be announced on such a prestigious reunion / world tour of THE American Band. I would have expected to see gigs on legendary stages in the UK and the US to be announced first (apart from New Orleans Jazz Festival).

Anyway, I got my Beach Boys reunion ticket right here, framed with an announcement poster of the German SMiLE release party last year. That makes two things I somehow still can't totally grasp... It's a wondrous time to be a BBs fan.

Other dates will be announced in due time, when all details have been finalized.

Those are max capacities: show capacity could be less.

The O2 world in Berlin is called the "most modern arena in Europe". The Beach Boys will play in the category "Endbühne mit bestuhltem Innenraum", I believe that's about 12.000.

This may be nothing.  Then again, it may be something.  I went to Ticketmaster and searched for Beach Boys.  It listed this Bamboozle festival in New Jersey, so I went to that site.  Searched through Friday and Saturday's lineups, and nothing.  But for Sunday, May 20th, at the top of the bill it shows Bon Jovi, and another band that is listed as Linc's Very Special Guest.  When you click that, it says 'not telling you'.  I don't know, probably nothin', but why did that festival come up on a search for The Beach Boys?

The Beach Boys are such a huge part of California lore and have been ambassadors for the state for decades. I say, just have all 50 shows here in California and let people from all over the world come and see them!

Whoohoo! I got my tickets for the Beach Boys reunion concert at Mohegan Sun this morning! My father and I are gonna go see them for my 23rd birthday together. That's going to be some birthday, huh? ;D We already have our tickets printed out. I'm so excited!!

So this is odd. My home town (DeLand, Fl) is having a big bash for the hospital that's there, and their website has it listed that on the 25th of March, the Beach Boys are playing (http://www.FHDeLand50.org/Florida_Hospital_events.html) but on the Beach Boys fan page, that gig is listed under David Marks only with the Surf City All Stars. Not sure which one to believe, but I thought I'd put it out there to the professionals. What do you guys think? My town isn't all that big, so I don't know if all the guys would stop by for that gig.

Reporting Blondie Chaplin will be joining the lineup for the June 22nd show.

I wonder how they caught wind of Blondie joining the lineup, yet not a peep from David Beard or Andrew. Sounds suspect to me, at least at this point.

I hope everyone here that wants to see them gets a chance. It's easy for me to get to Chicago where EVERYONE usually plays on tour, but it's a great bonus to be able to go see them at a place 15 minutes from your house. I can't stress enough how crazy this is that I will be seeing them at the same place I first saw them when I was a kid! Talk about a feeling of going full circle.

Mike & Bruce have regularly played Tucson (my home) for years, so I'm glad to see they are apparently coming here rather than Phoenix. Now my worry... since it's listed as the very first show, I believe this will be a HUGE event, not only for Tucson but the musical world. It's not a large venue, although of course I have no way of knowing how else it might be configured for any particular show. I suspect tickets will sell quickly; sure hope I can get in.

They've announced 48 dates so far... and none in Australia yet.  I knew the strong Aussie dollar was a problem, but...  Should I be terrified?

Brian's website says more soon, but doesn't include the other Euro dates. So I am not more worried that the UK dates won't be added. This is really bad! I never would have thought the UK would be overlooked! If they aren't doing any I'd rather know now so that I can decide whether I fly to somewhere else.  :'(

Seems like the first couple of dates might be kind of smaller, test shows -- I think the big kick off will probably be the NOLA show. But yeah -- if the anticipation gets higher, you'll want to scramble for tickets!

Also, this heartens me -- anyone notice that there are dates both in theaters and in larger, outside venues? Anyone thinking we're going to have a two setlists situation?

Even though the May 15th show is one day after my birthday and very close to us, the Westchester County Center is not really known for their concerts.

Ughhhhh...not the Bowl.....!  It's nearly impossible to get any of the pool circle seats up front as you have to be a member of the ticket club.   Siiiiiiigh.

Is anyone else taken aback by the ticket prices? The Beacon Theater shows in NYC are $236 or $153 for balcony. That's a lot of clams.

The Hollywood Bowl is a fantastic world-class venue since the remodel, with awesome sound and sightlines anywhere you sit.  I don't care if I have to sit in the back row, I'm thrilled they're at the Bowl.

I'm confused by the Beacon link...on the BB site it says on sale Feb 20 yet you go to that site they provide in the link and they look to be already on sale for high prices.  The site does NOT look official to me but more like a scalpers' site.  It looks like tickets for any event at the Beacon is through Ticketmaster (you can find all the events for sale there) but the Beach Boys are not yet listed on Ticketmaster for tickets...

Yeah, well, for those of us in northern New Jersey, there are no other nearby shows. I guess I could drive down to Camden, NJ. That's near Philadelphia and is about 1.5 hours from me. Saw Brian in NYC and it was about $100 for pretty good seats.

I hope you're right, and lower priced tickets will be listed when the tickets go on sale.

Exactly. I nearly fell off my chair when I found a site listing them from the St. Augustine Amphitheater in Florida and they were $150 and $212, but it said it was a resale marketplace like you said, so it isn't the actual price.

I hear ya, southbay.  But, do I have that right?  Are non-subscribers completely shut out from getting the pool circle seats?  I'm trying to look into getting how to be a subscriber but since the Beach Boys aren't listed on the Bowl website it's hard to find any answers before tickets go on sale this Friday....

I checked the Chicago Theater website, and while tickets don't go on sale until Monday, they do list the prices (with fees and taxes)...$54.07 and $271.53.  Nothing in between.  I'd almost rather see them there than at Summerfest in Milwaukee, even though it's an extra hour drive (at least), and I hate driving in downtown Chicago.  Can't afford $271, but $54 is certainly in my price range.

What is the ticket/seating situation at the Greek?  Have to be a season ticket holder for good seats?  I live in central Cali and am debating whether to hit this show or the Bowl the next day

Southbay, I saw Brian at the Greek during the Smile tour in '04 and The Boys many years before that. Every seat in the ampitheatre is good - floor, concrete bench, grass, or climb one of the trees for a real good vantage point. Very good acoustics. Sat on one of the cement benches last time and got a sore butt, so........recommend getting your ticket(s) early to get preferred seating. No doubt, it'll be a sell-out quickly.

I sure wish we had a Greek Theatre in Berkeley , Gloucestershire in the U.K. where I live.
However we do have a rather fine Castle that has hosted outdoor gigs in the past ( show capacity of 8,000 ) , NOW that gives me an idea what is the email address for BRI  ::)

Damn....Greek Theatre Berkeley....that's like ten minutes walking from my house. I believe there's a few spots around the theater (I know there's at least one) where you can actually peep in and watch the proceedings. Might be worth a free look.  :lol

Im sorry the Hollywood Bowl only has good sight lines cause they put up video screens .Before the screens if you were 1/2 way back they looked like ants.. Yes the sound has been improved greatly..

I've been to the Bowl 3 times and had okay experiences.  I was halfway down the bowl on the wooden bleachers.  The further back you go the more blase people get...sitting, eating, not singing/dancing along.  I would love to be closer to where the action is but like I mentioned the entire first 3 sections of the bowl are limited to season ticket holders and large groups.  The front half is all box seating with tables etc...great if you want to have a picnic while you're at the show.  I hate to knock the Bowl since it's such a cherished venue in LA but for someone who wants to be part of the action up front...it's a nightmare.

I'm a total Bowl partisan after the last few shows I've seen there.  Somehow even shy, retiring indie bands who have a reputation for introverted performances manage to put on fantastic shows at the Bowl.  Pavement the year before last was a total lovefest, with people dancing in the aisles throughout.  I've never been anywhere near the front rows there, but it's just not that kind of venue for me.  I'm not gonna be seeing the Beach Boys at Spaceland or the Troubadour or something, so "up front"  isn't even on the table.  A few months ago I saw the Serge Gainsbourg tribute from the literal last row and it was still a beautiful, involving show and a great night all around.

It should be noted that on the official site, they are now only showing the US tour dates..ending with Nevada on July 15th.  Any overseas date after that has been removed from the site.  Perhaps they withdrew it after they realized the UK dates weren't listed?

If you want to sit in 1st 3 sections just buy ONE ticket to the bowl.I sat in a box in 1st rows of 3rd section behind soundboard in 2000 for Pet Sounds + 2005 for SMILE.. Having a ticket for that section you can see + hear really well and you can WANDER around.! I did that + STOOD at soundboard  + danced and no ushers bothered me when they saw my ticket. it was weird sittin in a box with a family i didnt know BUT.. It worked out just fine. Also there was about 12 000 people at either of those shows  and ive seen BB twice there in 80"s + none of those 4 shows sold out. And when you get near the top in back the seats get cheap cause your so far away. At classical shows those seats go cheap like 10.00 or so.. Some kinda LA rule to provide entertainment for the poor.. If i can go im gonna get what i can get + Wander around + make the best of it.

Although I'm not surprised they're not playing Halifax, NS, Canada, I am surprised they're only playing Toronto and Montreal... Guess I'll see if I can make my way to one of those shows though!

That just means that select concert-goers (usually ones with a password) have a chance to order tickets before the official sale date. There's nothing different about it apart from entering the password when requested.

I'm considering boycotting being British until the Beach Boys sort out this jolly old mess. Damn it, we used to own this US of A, so strictly speaking America's Band is OUR band and you've no right to a tour announcement in advance of us. So just jolly-well hand back your tickets and take your rightful place in the queue – behind us – chaps.

I'm absolutely sure none of the Beach Boys themselves had the first clue about the partial announcements. And almost certainly no-one realised for a second that anyone would take it as a complete full list. Mistakes happen, and now we know that only the North American dates were meant to be announced today (which it does say on the press release on thebeachboys.com ) those of us who were panicking can calm down.

Given the grasping nature of our tax officials, I think it's not surprising that no UK dates have been announced - this has been a problem for Mike & Bruce for the last few visits. I also think the tour will be more than 50, but less than 100. There's 48 we know of, three in Japan and surely some Oz gigs.

From what I can tell, Brian's never made money on the solo tours - they do it as much to keep Brian active as for money. Plus, splitting the money five ways (after the backing band have been paid) - plus a payment to Carl's estate for their share of the name - works out a lot worse than keeping it all.

I believe Brian's solo tours have never made money in the U.S. Big distinction there.

I'm hoping that another date in SD will be announced...I'm not a big fan of Hollywood Bowl...but you can bet I'll be there either way!!!!

Actually, I am surprised they didn't open in the good ol' British Isles. You guys have always kept the faith and have a great respect for their music.  I can't say the same for the fickle U.S. audience who I still blame for their slide to an Oldies band.

Is that who we are placing the blame on this week?  Much like the Tootsie Roll Pop, one of the great unanswered questions of the universe, just who is responsible for that?

Whether that's the case or not (and having never been in a US audience I can hardly judge) I do know that at least Bruce is a big anglophile, and I think a couple of the other band members have said they like British audiences. If they don't play here, I doubt it'd be because they don't want to, but just because they wouldn't make enough money from it. Which is a real shame (not least for me - I have quite a phobia of travel...)

Not to go all things corporate here, but I believe it will actually be splitting the $ FOUR ways---Brian, Mike, Al and Carl's estate being the only members of BRI.  Bruce and David would receive payments of unkown amounts, then the band members.

The Benedum holds some tickets for members and offers the seats to them first..Fortunately i am a member! Don't know if this is the reason though.

I lived through the Endless Summer and Spirit Of America album era and attended quite a few concerts, as well. Those audiences could get down right rude when the band tried to play new music. 1974 seemed to be the tipping year. I saw them three times from early 72 through mid-73 and audiences were much more receptive to the new music, but that all ended by 1974. So, the U.S. audience gets my vote.

I've bought tickets from the Cultural Trust before (so I have an account with them), but (and this may sound really stupid) can I become a member? If so, how? I'd sell almost everything I own for good seats to this concert!

I went to both the BB and Brian gigs in the UK last year so if they could both afford it then why can't they now? How ridiculous if it is for tax reasons, surely they will make enough money out of the tour for this to be covered? Massively disappointed by this as, like others, I was so excited about this.

The BB cut a deal with Mr. Taxman to appear at Epsom last year: I understand the original plan was for at least two more English shows.

I "experimented" with buying a ticket for one of the German shows, via a ticket facility provided by one of the London broadsheet newspapers. With postage and fees, it loaded an extra 50% on to the price… forget that for a lark!   >:(

This is great - I'm going to see them May 21 in Chicago and then July 1 at Summerfest in Milwaukee.  Only catch is this little thing called the G8 Summit that is being held here May 19-21.

I agree with drbeachboy+ Mikie. We all lived thru the same thing..Beach boy fans of that era held the band back + by late 70"s the tide was turning. To BB credit The boys played music from every new lp they put out in concert. By 7-4-80  the tide rolled out + they gave in..To their credit didnt give up completely
In 85-86-89-90 BB still played MANY new songs in concert After that  things were different. But it did start in 74..Carl gave an interview in early 80"s that he said.1) Were dammed if we do + dammed if we dont.( New Songs} 2} Same interview..We can play a TURKEY of a show + people come back stage + tell us how great we are... No wonder they gave in..! But the cheerleaders  thing was too far..Even Al didnt like that.!

NO Jazz Fest... A mere 15-hour flight from home. I'll be there. I wanna be a part of history.

It's gone very quiet on the European/ROW leg of this tour. Does anyone have any news? It seems weird that some of the European dates were ready to go on sale and now they're not there! Well I can't see any.

They removed those dates from the lists and had the press release just say "the North American leg", but they still went on sale as planned. I bought tickets for the two Italian dates today.
I assume they're still arranging the tour dates for the rest of the world, and will do a single announcement when they have firmed up dates for Japan, Australasia, maybe South America and (we can hope) the UK or Ireland.

The Italian dates were both 51 Euro (about £42) and 'general admission' (they both look like standing gigs) incidentally. I figure if I fly on a budget airline, stay in a youth hostel, and generally do the trip frugally, they'll come to under a hundred quid a ticket - which is only around the price for good tickets for some of the American gigs...

That's a pretty good idea and a chance to see another city! I think I will hold out for a UK date, if there aren't any then I miss out big time but there's four of us that want to go and it would be quite expensive for us all to fly, stay and watch!

Understandable. I'd have made that decision myself normally, but after living my entire adult life on the poverty line I managed to get my finances sorted out for the first time this year, and paid off all my credit card debt just a day before they officially announced that there was a reunion. I promised myself then I would go to all the UK shows, and that if there were no UK shows I'd go to some European ones. If they'd announced these dates even three months ago I wouldn't be considering travelling...

I am happy that everything has worked out well for you - if there are no UK dates you will still get to see them and that will be an unforgettable experience.

The Australian and NZ dollars are very high at the moment. Will make sense to come down-under and make some real coin next summer!

AGD has said it will  could be over mid- August but if all is well they should take a break then tour south including S America, Hawaii later in the year.

1) there will be slightly more than 50 dates: 48 officially scheduled plus the Japan three is 51. Hopefully there'll be a UK (and antipodean) date to add to that 51.

2) the whole she-bang could be done, dusted and packed away by mid-August."

Man, they should be playing bigger venues but I guess this was the bands decision, just hope the real fans got some tickets

Yeah this tour has been a feeding time for the scalpers.  For the Beacon shows, for example, the theatre sits nearly 3,000, and about 600 tickets went to scalpers for each show.  Including of course most of the front seats going for thousands of dollars.  So with the VIP Nation taking a portion of the front rows for their meet and greet packages and now the scalpers nabbing those seats too--it leaves very few for real fans to enjoy.  Sure few got lucky got some but there is no guarantee anymore that a fan can have an equal chance to get those front row seats than anyone else.

How do we know how many tickets went to scalpers ?

I honestly wish I knew Rob.  They must have a network of people working for them to increase their chances to get the seats.  I doubt it's just a 2 or 3 man operation but rather a whole team to try to counteract the true fans trying to get the same tickets. 

Many acts now are trying to combat this epidemic by issuing paperless tickets...no tickets issued, simply show ID and receipt of payment and you're in.  I recall AC/DC doing this when they were last on tour.  Went to see Ryan Adams last year and a portion of his tickets went to scalpers and his management actually fought back and TOOK BACK those tickets from scalpers.  Bob Dylan I recall once did a show where it was just cash upfront at the door...no tickets.  You got in line, paid and in you went.  But it was a small club show so it was easier to do that.

Still though, I wish the Beach Boys would have taken some precautions for this.  With this obviously being a huge tour, they should have had the forsight to make it a little harder for scalpers to get to the tix. 

Opening act for the 6/13 Cleveland show is Foster The People. It's a one off, apparently.

They're playing a mixture. Some theaters, a lot of amphiteater-style venues.

Nothing they're playing is much bigger than venues either Brian or the Mike-Bruce band have played on their own. I honestly don't know if they expected such demand.

I hope a miracle happens and I have enough money to buy tickets. I want to go see this show SO bad...I missed out on one of Carl's last shows in 1997, and there's no way I'd want to miss this.

Good for them.  During that after-performance interview at the Grammys I recall Al looking up at Mike saying that wouldn't be a bad idea if they opened for them.  It will be interesting to see the full roster of acts opening for them.  I wish they had gotten Blondie and Ricky to open...that'd be nice.  But alas...

Beg to differ, but Brian has very, very rarely played to a 10,000+ non-festival crowd in some 430 shows: the vast majority of his venues have been 2000-3000, and they've not invariably been full.

Exactly. Blondie and Ricky should be IN the reunion band, not opening for them. FTP is a great opener. Wish I could be going to that show.

In a perfect world, they would've opened for them and then later joined them onstage for the rest of the show.

Brian played here in 2004 (in a small venue), BBB played here in 2009 (I don't think one thousand people attended), so I don't believe they'll come.
But it's OK, this is an unique chance of my life do see the original Boys playing and singing together, so I'll see it finally!

I don't get this whole "Ricky and Blondie should open" thing. They're not in a band together right now either. That would be a reunion in and of itself.

I could rant forever so I’ll keep my gripe relatively short: These “VIP” packages they are selling for this tour (and numerous other artists’ tours) are already obscene enough for numerous reasons, but I didn’t think it could actually be even more obscene until I started checking the price variations from show to show. It’s not surprising I suppose that the larger “markets”, the more “metropolitan” or whatever areas, would have higher demand. I just can’t believe how much more the large market cities cost. The totally low-grade pathetic package where all you get is a decent seat and some tour merchandise costs nearly as much in the big cities as the high-end “The Beach Boys will meet you, play a personal show for you, and wash your car for you” packages in other areas.

I was actually looking at the prices, and while it’s all obscene, I probably wouldn’t mind trying to scrape together $375 to sit in the freaking front row, meet the band, and get all the swag. But I don’t live near Bangor, Maine.

I hear you on that.  Living in the Chicago area is very expensive, and I try to see concerts in the surrounding areas for a lot less.  Milwaukee is my #1 desitination for most concerts now because of this and I couldn't be happier pricewise.  It's barely an hour from my house, cheap parking, light traffic, etc.  The only downside is the concerts themselves are a notch better in Chicago - there is an energy in the city that is special and most artists feed off it by giving a little more in their performance.  It sucks that the economy has me down for the count these days because I used to fly/drive long distances to concerts and I miss doing that.

Hot Sound offered a chance to see the soundcheck, a vegan dinner recommended by Paul, 2 or 3 tour gifts, early acess in concert venue...but NO meet & grate, No pictures with Sir Paul, NO access his backstage...
And I know some fans who paid this absurd high price to see him, and they paid to see him all dates he played here in Brazil, and even in Argentina.

I saw Paul McCartney when he played at CitiField in 2009. my friend's father owns a restaurant in CitiField so we got into the whole thing for free. we saw the soundcheck, there were about 12 other people there. one of them was Oprah, one of the richest people ever. the soundcheck was great, he covered Midnight Special! the place where we were standing (right in front of the stage) was pretty awesome, too in terms of celebrities. Alec Baldwin was a few feet to one side and the Olsen twins were a few feet to the other side.

For those of us living on a fixed income, VIP packages are utterly out of the question.

Coming from the era of $3.00 tickets, all concert ticket prices are ridiculus. The cheapest seat for the Atlantic City show is $95.  Just to get a back middle section seat wil cost me $135 or $155 x 2. $310 for one show is taking a big bite out of my expendable income. I love the Beach Boys, but these prices are pushing my love to the max.

Very true. I realize the whole concert/ticket industry has been unfair for years, and I’m not sure how fair it ever was. I’ve been reading griping and debating about ticket pricing/distribution/allocation for years. It’s all corrupt. This VIP thing is just doubly weird, because it’s penalizing all the fans that can’t afford it, and then adding extra penalties for fans who happen to live in areas with presumably higher median income or larger population, or whatever it is that makes Chicago, New York, etc. exponentially more expensive for these VIP packages.

I’m more interested in a good seat for the show than I am in meeting the band.

I just think it’s extra ridiculous that I would have to pay nearly as much for standard tickets as someone in another part of the country would pay for as much as a front row ticket, meeting the band, seeing the soundcheck, etc.

I could trot out a bunch of the same old arguments. But they are all valid. Rich, casual fans fill a lot of the seats at these shows. I know, there’s no way to measure what a “real fan” is or how much is a “fair” price. But bands charge these prices, and people buy the tickets, so it won’t change unless the artist is really committed to offering a fair price for a ticket and not charging as much as they can get away with. It eventually just devolves into a “free market” debate, which is really boring. Some bands don’t talk about ticket prices, a few do and actually charge below what they could, and some like, I believe, McCartney have tried to explain it away by blaming it on other bands, saying he just sets the price based on what other similar bands charge.

Some bands, even the ones that revel in the tour proceeds, may not know the extent of the price gouging. When someone says they are doing a reunion tour “for the fans”, I would hope maybe they’re not totally aware of $1,200 single-person VIP packages being sold. That’s not even scalper stuff, that’s the “official” sources charging that.

Jude, you probably remember the Oakland 'Days On The Green' concerts in the 70's, including the Beachago tour. 10 bucks and you could see 5 or 6 bands, including the Beach Boys!  How times have changed......

Yeah, I actually a few years ago framed my concert tickets that spanned from about 1997 to 2008. It starts with 1997 Ringo for 32.50 and goes all the way up to 2005 McCartney for 250.00 (and 2008 Ringo was something like $125 too).

I haven’t caught any McCartney/Ringo/Brian shows in the Bay Area since 2008, and while I wish I could have seen those shows, I certainly don’t miss the high prices and runaround you get trying to get tickets.

Even in 2001 I was still able to go to a Rite Aid on a Sunday at 10am, stand in line, and get front row tickets for Ringo in Concord. That ain’t happening ever again.

Except for Brian, I have not been to any other concerts for years and years. At least for me, no one is worth that kind of money. Even Brian's shows, the most I paid was $64, and I paid $40 or $50 for the Beach Boys Xmas show back in 2007. If this was anything other than the Reunion Tour, I wouldn't bother going at these prices. The VIP packages are a total rip-off. If they have to charge me to meet them and get a autograph, it better be for charity. Some way to treat your fans.

I'm through with tickets. I've seen the people I want to see. The ones I really wanted to see and missed are dead (Clifton Chenier, Eubie Blake and a few others). I'm sticking with Barbes (a bar in Brooklyn) and intimiate places like that.

I've never seen David with the band and I never saw Brian coherent with the band. So, this tour is a 2-fer for me.

A friend of mine couldn't understand why I'd want to see them more than once on this tour.  I dunno, it's Brian with The Beach Boys...I want to see them as many times as I possibly (financially) can.

The DFW show (Grand Prairie) goes on sale Friday at 10 AM. The speed at which some of these shows have sold out makes me nervous as hell...I'm gonna be refreshing the page like crazy to be one of the first "in line" to buy some tickets. They range from $25 to $85, which is a lot cheaper than I would have thought.

Same here.  Tickets for Red Rocks go on sale Saturday, and I really would like to go.

this is kinda the only concert i care to see.  i've seen my other favorites (granted i'm 25 but whatever).  I'm more of a festival goer nowadays.  cheaper and more bang for buck.

but i just bought the cheapest VIP package cause i know this is the only time i'll see them and my girlfriend is paying the difference soooo (really it's only 50 dollars more a pop)

There is an evenko pre sale for montreal about to happen tonight. I bought the VIP nation sound check package for 350. Montreal is far cheaper for that package than any other city Ive seen. About half of NYC

The Red Rocks show ticket sale date went from 2/25 to TBD this morning.  I suspect there is still some wrangling with Red Rocks on the event details, but no one else is booked for that day.  I'm sure we'll hear more in the next couple weeks or so.  Nevertheless, I wish they'd hurry up.  :lol

Beach Boys ticketsWhen tickets went on sale this morning for shows by pop-punkers blink 182 and The Beach Boys 50th anniversary reunion tour at the coming Sands Bethlehem Event Center, a line of 75 people stood outside the door to the center’s box office in the Shoppes at the Sands Mall.

Tom Mainhart was first in line Friday to buy tickets for new Sands Event Center shows.

But the surprise was for whom most of them were waiting.  And how quickly the show sold out

About 70 of the 75 people were in line to buy $69.50 to $150 tickets to the May 17 show by The Beach Boys, a band whose five members have an average age of 68, and whose last charting single was 24 years ago.

All the show's 2,250 tickets sold out in two hours, said Jerry Deifer, one of the center's owners.

The give the center the second sellout out of the six shows it has put on sale. Most tickets for country star Alan Jackson's May 19 show sold out in a half hour.

“We've gotten a great response," Deifer said. He said there were good reports of the box office's customer service, and that sales went smoother since buyers experienced slight delays when tickets for the first shows went on sale Feb17. "We’re just fine-tuning the machine here," Deifer said.

People who lined up even though tickets were sold online hope the Sands had held back some better tickets for on-site sales or would start selling them slightly before the 10 a.m. online time. Deifer said that indeed was the case.

Certainly one important reason there were so few blink 182 buyers in line for its $59.50 tickets to its May 20 concert was because the show is general admission standing – no assigned seats – for 3,500 people -- meaning the time the tickets are bought doesn’t determine the place from where you’ll watch.

But clearly the fact that this tour marks The Beach Boys’ 50th anniversary and reunites singer/songwriter Brian Wilson with the band for the first time in 27 years and Al Jardine for the first time in 13 years has generated fan interest.

Deifer said while standing outside the box office that more than 800 tickets were bought in an online pre-sale Thursday.

“This is the hot show,” he said.

That was the sentiment of Tom Mainart, 59, of Jeffersonville, Montgomery County. Mainart, wearing a Beach Boys T-shirt and lei, started waiting at the box office door at 10:30 p.m. Thursday – 11 1/2 hours before it opened – to get the best seats he could for himself and his wife.

He got front row, but off the center he had hoped for. He was told the band had reserved first-row center seats.

“I’m a huge Beach Boys fan from way back – 1964,” he said. He said he’s seen them more than 20 times — as well as solo shows by Brian Wilson and Carl Wilson — and also will see them on this tour in Camden, Atlantic City and Holmdel, N.J. He said he’s waited even longer to get tickets to other shows.

“It’s the music,” he said when asked the reason for his love of the group. “It’s great music.”

He said his favorite song is “God Only Knows” – a sentiment shared by Ellen Cooper of Longswamp Township, who was fourth in line and waited 2 1/2 hours. The difference is that Cooper said she’s a recent convert to the band’s music.

“The Beach Boys were not hip in my circle,” she said of a life of not paying attention to their music. But she said she was struck two years ago by the use of “God Only Knows” as the theme song to the HBO television series “Big Love,” researched The Beach Boys and “I’ve been totally immersed in Brian Wilson’s music since.”

She says it not only prompted her to stand in line for tickets to see Wilson at New York City’s Highland Ballroom in June, but to buy a piano to play his songs. “It reawakened my interest in music,” she said.

There were, indeed, a few blink 182 ticket buyers in line. Deifer said that show also is moving toward a sellout, but tickets still are available.

 Kelly Brown, 20, of Bethlehem said she chose to go to the box office to avoid the $14.50-per-ticket surcharges added online to each of the 14 tickets she was buying for family and friends. The wait in line saved her $212.

“I’ve liked them from the beginning,” Brown said of the band. But she said she’s never seen them live.

Becky Rasmuson, 17, and Bobby Storer, 18, both of Bethlehem, said they simply hoped to avoid online hassles. Both got tickets and said they’re excited: It will be Storer’s third blink 182 show and Rasmuson’s first.

Deifer said online sales hiccups and surcharge savings are good reasons to wait in line, but he said he suspects avid concert goers also enjoy the experience of waiting in line for their tickets.

“They get the person-to-person interaction,” he said. “They get a better understanding of the venue they’re going into. And they spend time with people who like the same act as they do.”

The sales mean all of the event center’s six announced shows are available. Other shows are Incubus on May 19, which will open the center; Flogging Molly on May 24 and Paul Anka on May 27.

Deifer said more shows will be announced soon.

Just got a pair of tickets for the Raleigh, NC show this morning. It will be my first Beach Boys show and I'm thrilled.

Just got my tickets for Wisconsin, totally excited! I haveseen the beach boys four times - back when Carl was alive and Al was still in the band and I saw brian in londonfor smile. But to see them together..... Awesome!!

Got tickets for WI. Anyone know how amphitheaters are? I got back reserved seating (yellow section, second seating section) - Is that going to be unpleasant at all? How is the sound in those places?

I have 3 extra Hollywood Bowl tickets for Sat June 2, 2012 available for face value (no scalping from this guy) that I won't be able to use.  They are much better than the seats that are currently left and available for sale.  They are in section K2.  I paid approx $90 for each ticket after ticketbastard fees.  These are actual hard copy tickets purchased from ticketmaster not paper or e-tickets.  Not looking to make any money, just to recoup my initial investment and find these decent tickets a nice home.  Shoot me an e-mail if interested.  I'd even consider trading if you have some neat-o rare BB / BW stuff!

A really interesting post, and proof that us Brits aren't being overlooked. Surely there are a number of medium sized venues around the UK that would be available? I wonder if any football stadiums, or sports grounds would be the right kind of thing. As long as it's not too far away, I would be willing to travel so I just hope they manage to get a date soon! Then the question of money and ticket packages will be the thing I am stressing about!!!! But that's a good thing.....sort of!

YEAH!  I'm in at Summerfest in Milwaukee!  I am a happy man.  The most expensive tickets (VIP packages excepted) are under $70.00, with fees included.  I'm in section 2, just in front of the sound board (yeah!!!)  and have I mentioned that I'm a happy man?  Stoked!

Ah well, no Aust- NZ tour it seems. Still it will be a good few months following the concerts on you-tube, hope for a reasonable album, probable live DVD and album etc.

I can't complain as I am of the age that caught Dennis in 78 and Carl several times in later years. Some things just can't be recaptured in any reunion. :(

Not exactly thrilled, but I'm not wailing, weeping and stamping my feet like a spoiled child. These things sometimes happen. The trick is to handle them like a grown up, and not a spoilt brat.

North Greenwich Arena
The O2 arena, the world's most succesful entertainment venue, will be known as North Greenwich Arena in 2012. It will be hosting Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline Gymnastics and the Basketball finals during the Olympic Games and then, a few weeks later, Wheelchair Basketball during the Paralympic Games.The Arena will seat up to 20,000 spectators for the Basketball finals and Wheelchair Basketball and 16,500 for Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline Gymnastics.

Man, these tickets selling out at such a quick rate has me worried as all get out. I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally want to go to the Benedum Hall show. My blood pressure is high as a kite to begin with. I just might have a heart attack now.  :thud

Sorry for the above post. I'm a little excited.  ;D Has anybody here been to the Benedum Hall? I was hoping I could get some information regarding handicapped accessability.

Oh no, now were f***ed

Call me a dreamer, but allow me to make some predictions.

1.) April - August will not be the last "reunion" tour.
2.) They will have another leg of shows relatively quickly, probably during the winter. It will be shorter.
3.) They will be doing it all again next summer.

Why? It doesn't have anything to do with art. It has to do with commerce. There will be a new studio album. A live DVD and TV special. Possibly a live album. Archival releases. A mere five-span month of touring doesn't begin to cover all the places that want to see them.

Everyone in this group can recognize dollar signs. Mike and Bruce will tour as "The Beach Boys" for most of the time, but the full band will not disappear after August.

At least that's my guess.

I have heard the Australian dates  have YET to be announced. They are coming though.

Eminently sane post. I wouldn't get depressed if the BBs won't do Europe, but this scenario is the most likely for me.
