Except Lucy wasn't about LSD, at least not consciously. Lennon was pretty honest about which songs were written on or about drugs so I don't see why he would lie about this instance... OT. Sorry. No I can see it your point though. It is a valid interpretation and certainly puts an interesting spin on things. Especially the bicycle rider reference.

Very interesting. Sounds a little less set than the Capitol press release would suggest.
I do agree with folks that I find the BWPS template a strange starting point -- I would hope that if they do it, they just use the full tracks with pauses in between. I would hate to hear it with the segues, etc., since those are so clearly 2003-2004 additions. I like them in the context of the later work, which is really a wholescale reconsideration of the project, with a nod toward its history, but they would not work in an archival project.
Also, flying in Brian's vocal over the Surf's Up track seems pretty -- um -- odd. What's the point? To have it over the first part, then the piano demo (which is a 71 compromise) then "Child" vocals? Where would the "Child" vox come from?
I _really_ don't want a cut-and-paste, BWPS-sounding thing. It disrespects the history, and it disrespects BWPS, which should be allowed to stand on its own terms.
I think we may be missing the point. It seems it is going to be the best of both worlds.

So, do y'all think that the 2-CD set and the deluxe box will happen at roughly the same time, or will they be staggered?
My gut tells me that the 2-CD set will be released first and relatively soon.
However, despite the initial euphoria of this, I have a strange feeling that "a limited-edition boxed set containing four CDs, two vinyl LPs, two vinyl singles and a 60-page hardbound book" just sounds too good to possibly be true. Can those whom Billboard (accurately) describes as the BBs' "long-suffering fans" really be this lucky?!
DId PhilCohen hijack your account?

I'm 40. Very few people in my generation like the Beach Boys. The reaction to 'beach boys' is nearly always negative, scornful and dismissive. I have known one guy of my own generation personally who liked the Beach Boys; when he told me ten years or so ago, my reaction was negative, scornful and dismissive, even when he played me a few songs from Pet Sounds and I had to admit that they were pretty good, I still didn't get over my prejudice.
This. I detested the Beach Boys until about 6 years ago (I am 36 now). Most people I talk to like a few songs ok. But the funny thing is that most people I find out who really like them are typically 20 something musicians/artists/writer types. The hipsters. The ones who are into Radiohead and The Flaming Lips.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Frankie Valli or Brian Wilson - who had the better falsetto?

It's not really a theremin on "Good Vibrations", you know... Surely you would like to be precise with terminology, AGD? I would think you would get this, as a tireless corrector of misconception and misguided historiography, the desire to question long-held ideas in search of truth. Just throwing a little humor into the pot, as things were getting a tad heated. I see your point, but in this instance, "falsetto or not ?" is considerably less cut and dried than looking at something and saying "that's not a theremin". To Joe Q. Public, saying "falsetto" is akin to saying "xerox" or "hoover", in that he's not thinking of the absolute technical term, but rather "singing in a high voice" as a catch-all phrase. You're right, very probably, but you'll never convince 99.9% of the listening public - or even fans - of that, so the battle is, in essence, doomed to failure. Or as my father used to say, "it's a wise man who knows when to say "**** it !"". Amen... Pronounced Ah-men.. rather than the popular A-men. But nothing you can do to change people's minds.

Trust me guys and girls by the end of April we will all have good reason to Smile Source? BRI reads these boards, you know. Otherwise you're a liar. I'm so sorry but I'm only going by blind faith and overly optimistic and the reason being because of general signs of Smile being finally released and I thought myself only that some kind of release date would be given out by late spring. I didn't mean to get anyone's hopes up and I didn't mean for anyone to think i had some kind of knowledge from the inside which I don't again sorry if I'd caused any upset. The use of the phrase "trust me... we will" implies something more than "blind faith" and very definitely hints at inside knowledge. Pretty presumptious move at the least and ballsy at the most.
