Mojo mentions "Mike Love Gets Angry". But he's always angry. Will this be a "pre-meditation" interview or will he just be his usual annoying self exclaiming loudly that I did this, I did that, or that was me along with the ever enticing tape loop Beatles story? Readers beware of SOS. I respect your opinion about Mike. But to say he is always angry true at all!

I did not get emotionally invested in the Beach Boys until 1998. So at the time I wasn't heart broken. However, as I have learned more about the band, Carl is probably my favorite Beach Boy. Definitely vocally and as a human being! I am bummed that I never got to see him live.
As for what the Beach Boys would be today, we have to remember that Full House, Summer in Paradise, etc had already happened. He was more concerned with keeping everyone happy than leading. But I don't think Al would have gotten fired. I am curious what would have happened with Brian. Carl had voted down doing Pet Sounds live or some of his new songs. Would Brian have gone solo? Would Carl eventually accept Brian's newer songs? I don't now.

A tie always goes to the Beach Boys, but this is an easy vote for the Beatles. Abbey Road is currently my favorite Beatles album! And my favorite song is Because! 20/20 has lots of good songs, but feels disjointed. The way the white album was.
The a cappella version of ‘Because’ from their Love album is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard. That is the version that made me recognize it! Sounds like the Beach Boys Friends era! Or Til I Die esque

Have found myself checking the ol' podcast for the latest ep since Sunday night. Refresh... refresh... refresh...
We had to skip a week because we were on tour but we recorded a new one tonight and I'll have it up on Monday! Sorry for the delay and thanks for listening. Skipping a week is unacceptable because your life revolves around my personal entertainment! Touring is not an excuse unless you are coming to Dallas! 😈

My dad was a surfer. I was born in Los Angeles and we lived there til I was 4. I remember seeing him surf once. Then we moved to Dallas in 1981. My dad was diabetic and got sick. He couldn't walk but wanted to ride a wave one last time. He basically sat on the board while my grandpa and uncle stood by. He was scared to death even though they didn't go very far. In 1989 he passed away. I have never surfed, but it the idea of surfing reminds me of my dad. My dad also was a simger and would harmonize with my mom and sometimes in a quartet with my aunt and uncle too. I fell in love with the vocal harmonies listening to recordings of them after he died .2 years later my mom remarried. I looked through my step dads collection of cds when I was 13 in 1991 and found Endless Summer. I think the combination of songs about surfing and the harmonies immediately drew me to them. My mom says that my dad was more of a James Taylor fan but could see him getting into the Beach Boys. I would have loved to introduce him to Two Lane Black Top! Anyway, that's my emotional connection to surfing. Never tried it myself.

I don't compare them based on popularity. If I did, then Barbra Ann would be better than You Still Believe In Me! Honestly, I think most of the Beatles songs before Rubber Soul are highly over rated. Lots of catchy songs, better on stage performers, and more press coverage. Surfer Girl was a step ahead of anyone in rocknroll musically as an album in my opinion in 1963.

Around 1999/2000, I was obsessed with finding Smile bootlegs on Napster. Also, a guy I met at a Grandaddy concert in Dallas around 2002 was a huge Beach Boys fan. He gave me a copy of the Sea of Tunes Smile sessions. Of course, I bought the box set when it came out. The 2011 is much better quality. Today I am into Adult/Child and the 90s Wilson/Payley sessions.

I have really enjoyed the Gary Usher and Roger Christian episodes! I have learned new things about the roots of surf and car music and how important these guys were to that genre! I also enjoy the conspiracy theories. I am one entertained by the Paul is Dead clues. I didn’t know there were interesting theories about The Beach Boys! I’m excited to hear more! Certainly there are some about Charles Manson or Eugene Landy! Haha, thanks! I don't think there are any Beach Boys Conspiracies at the level of Paul Is Dead but we're gonna make sure we ask all the right questions!!! I will make one up then!
