What song is playing around 9:00?

Thanks in advance. You guys say you're hardcore Beach Boys fans. Prove it.

My Top 5 without even thinking too hard:

Someone once said, here or elsewhere, that that was the 1973 "Pattycake" demo Brian did after a visit to NYC zoo.

he's actually singing "daddy dear" and it's not a Brian Wilson song.  this one drove me crazy for a long time after hearing it on that A&E Biography.

It's called "Little Child (Daddy Dear)"...not sure who wrote it, but it's also been recorded by Wes Montgomery, George Winston (as "Mon Enfant"), and Tony Danza of all people (as a duet with his daughter).  The song is a conversation between a father and child.

we have had this discussion before, and my buddy Joe Amoros sent me Brian's recording which was made around the time they did 'Holland' i think?  He's all excited playing it for someone, trying to remember how it goes, then he gives up and starts playing "Susie Cincinnati".

i'd be happy to pass it along to anyone that provides me with an email address.

5 songs:
In the Back of My Mind
Little Girl I Once Knew
When a Man Needs a Woman
Busy Doin Nothing
This Whole World

It is a hilarious recording, very funny and frustrating because he never gets through more than a few bars. "Daddy Dear...oh, it's great...beautiful...it goes, it goes, Daddy dear...daddy dear...oh, i forgot it. it's great. beautiful. It goes, daddy dear..." ad infinitum.

'Course, some people were of the opinion that it wasn't Brian, but Alan.

Some still are.  ::)

I've been meaning to watch this doc for ages and here it is, it'c very good, great interviews with Marilyn, quite poignant when shes reading Brians love letters...

the "Daddy Dear" part is definitely Brian.  The speaking voice is too manic to be anyone else. Maybe Al's sitting at the piano with him and that's why it goes into "Susie"...? I'd say it's Brian singing that one too though.

:lol It's Brian. I think Al is singing along in parts on the background,l as there is more than one person singing in certain parts. I think Brian sounds a little coked up, too.

Its definitely Brian, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was Alan on Susie Cincinnati (with Brian on the keys)

I'm enjoying all of these posts, but doesn't the thread title say Your Top 5 Beach Boys ALBUMS? It doesn't say Top 5 songs. That's OK, it's my obsessive compulsive disorder acting up again. Please continue... :police:

That GV "promo" is from a 1970 TV appearance, they also mimed to Cottonfields on that show, it was hosted by a comedian named John (er somebody) Beinborn maybe? Anyway, i've got it, its been around in trading circles for years.

Some collection Pet Sounds, Friends, Love You, Holland, Today! and Surf's Up make up my top five on any given day, with a different one of them sitting out in the cold until its turn to come back into my good (well, best) graces.

Okay top 5 for today, strictly reactionary, no weighing things out - in no particular order:

1. Fun, Fun, Fun
2. Please Let Me Wonder
3. Woudn't It Be Nice
4. Wendy
5. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)

If I did this again tomorrow, the results would likely be different. I know it's not "cool" to love the surf/car stuff but I really do like the '63-'66 era best.

3. My Diane (the Adult Child era version)

i wanna hear that!  did Brian sing it?

what all is out there in the way of Adult Child/Love You demos and tracks?
I'm a big fan of the piano demos, but I've only heard "I'll Bet He's Nice", "Still I Dream Of It", and "That Special Feeling" (love that one)...

also, what are the songs from the Cocaine/Hamburger sessions?

thanks.

The earlier recording of My Diane that I'm familiar with must have been recorded around the time of 15 Big Ones (or at least that's what I thought). The lead vocals were brilliantly handled by Dennis as well, yet the overall arrangement does seem a bit more understated than on the M.I.U. version. Still, the difference is marginal at least to my ears. Great song.

I do love That Special Feeling as well. That would have been a great closing track instead of Love Is A Woman.

As far as I know, the commonly available part of the Hamburger Sessions consisted of some pieces called Yeahhh (?), Oh Lord, City Blues, Piano, You've Been Pt. 1 + 2, I Feel So Fine and an utterly painful rendition of a song you might recognise as Heroes And Villains.
