I strongly suspect that some of the Brian-Joe songs on “No Pier Pressure” could have and perhaps would have ended up on a second reunion album. But there were supposedly a number of songs worked on and in contention in 2012 for the reunion album, and I’m not sure any of *those* were used for “No Pier Pressure”, as in taking the “Beach Boys version” and taking off the BB contributions.
I seem to have a fair recollection that back in 2012 somebody - maybe Joe Thomas - was quoted as saying that when the Wilson/Thomas songs were being written, Brian was very clear about which songs would be for his solo self, and which would be for the Beach Boys. I guess this recollection is vague enough to be an impression I formed, but it was definitely based on something I read, somewhere.

An album of any kind would be absolutely amazing! I hope, whatever it is, that folks are supportive!
Well, I certainly really hope his vocals are much improved on any new tracks. Based on Right Where I Belong from the LPR album and his most recent tour, I’m about ready to consider it game over for BW and time to retire. Well the guy is the other side of 80. Most of his contemporaries are 6 foot under, so from that perspective, he's doing okay. I've always thought of Brian as a songwriter/producer first, singer/musician second. I think even in the early days this can be seen with Brian's 'side projects' and contentment to leave the band in 1964. If Brian wrote the songs and his current band performs them, that's about as good as it gets at this point, so I guess we kind of agree.

Any word, rumours or innuendo as to what they are working on.
Has Brian done much or any writing lately? To get photos like this suggests an album to me, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Maybe it's a Strings & Horns sequel to At My Piano . .
Equally, it could just be a one off track for someone else's project, a tribute album or the like.

Don't know about anyone else, but the "Rooftop Harry" track has me excited, I wonder how complete it is..? I don't remember The details of that one. Will have to look it up in my good old Brad Elliott book - I have a clear recollection that it was mentioned there. My memory is clearly not what it used to be, but in any event the book has some thought provoking, if not always accurate content. These shots from the out-takes section. Obviously the Dennis song mentioned is Carry Me Home, but it was recorded!! Probably Atlantis Rising didn't get beyond the talking about it stage, but the report of a new version of Surf's Up recorded at the Holland sessions???

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Sail On Sailor box set

Thought I'd start a thread for news, thoughts, opinions etc. etc. in relation to this year's forthcoming Carl and the Passions / Holland box set.
To kick things off, any ideas of whether or not the Flames material from the second album would likely form part of this set, or a separate release, or maybe not be released at all?
Also, while I think of it, we'd have to be getting the Sail On Sailor demo tape (writing session?) wouldn't we?

Wondering what the 1993 year listed for those SMiLE tracks means exactly.
Assuming GV 30 Years Box Set mixes?
That's a real head-scratcher. Why would they use those 1993 mixes? To my ear, the 2011 Smile Sessions mix of "Wind Chimes" sounds much clearer and crisper. Had another think about this - maybe the 1993 just signifies that those recordings were first released in that year.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian’s Going Back To Court
|

Well he didn't actually lose - the case has been thrown out because the court papers don't have enough detail. Big difference. He could most likely get together the required detail and try again.
The article indicates that this already happened: The judge had previously dismissed the claims but allowed Marks an opportunity to fix its shortcomings. This particular case appears to be over; it cannot be amended: This time the judge didn’t allow further amendment of the allegations and closed the case.Of course, anybody can bring a new suit against anybody. But considering they were already allowed a chance to come up with additional evidence/documentation to amend their filing and were apparently unable to come up with any new information, I'd say the chances of filing a *new* case and succeeding would be very slim, unless they uncovered new information. Thanks for clearing that up - I feel like such an idiot. I gotta stop posting sh*t before reading stuff properly!

My feeling from the way Mike talks about this - call it intuition - you will get Sounds of Summer plus 2x CDs from Mike and his band. Only time will tell.
Regarding official Bluray, that would be cool, but I suspect there's not the appetite for it within the powers that be (which of course depends entirely on the commercial viability / profitability expected.
Some of those 80s and 90s clips are great, I don't really recall many from the 70s. But as you say, they are not all that great.
The Beatles jumped on board, if not created, the promo clip - so of course they did a way better job on theirs. We're probably waiting on a bluray bootleg when it comes to our band.

Since there wasn’t an extension release (not counting FF lol) what is now in the public domain?
Silly Walls, the birthday party performances of the Mr. Sandman/Chipmunk Song/Sonata Facile, as well as the May Syracuse and June Fillmore East shows from 1971. If we're counting stuff that is NOT bootlegged: . San Miguel (Early Version) . Country and Western (basic Carl demo recorded in 1969, featuring many overdubbed acoustic guitars) . Don't Go Near the Water (Piano Rehearsal/Demo) . Take a Load Off Your Feet (Demo) . Lookin' at Tomorrow (Demo) . Dennis' Piano Interlude (WIBNTLA/Barbara Piano Demo) . Remember That Feeling (Dennis/Gregg Jakobson Christmas song demoed in late 1969) . Susie Cincinnati (Version One) . Untitled #3 . Cool Cool Water (Two alternate versions; one an a cappella experiment, the other an alternate instrumental track) . The Fred Vail Country Album . Back Home (Version Four; recorded during the mid-August 1970 sessions. Basic track only.) . New Hit Single (Early version of Barnyard Blues) . Telephone Backgrounds (On a Clear Day) . Two untitled Dennis Wilson tracks (one a studio demo, the other a backing track) . Sea Cruise Yeah, thinking about how all of that is gonna rot away in the vaults isn't very fun lol I know you guys are just kidding around - but - probably worth remembering that if a song has been released, then other studio versions of the same song are not in the public domain.
