What am I listening to?
Neil Young, lots of it, things like "Prairie Wind," (since I recently got the Heart of Gold film on DVD--one of the better concert DVDs), "Greendale," "Sleeps with Angels" and "Weld." What a great artist...

Sparks, "Kimono My House" and "Propogranda." Never was all that aware of this group until recently. Love about half of the songs on both of the albums, am working on the other half.

Neko Case, I LOVED "Middle Cyclone" and am trying to get into "Fox Confessor." Much less poppy, but will probably be as satisfying.

Other than that, the old standbys: U2, Elton, XTC, Dennis Wilson. That was today.

What am I listening to?

Sparks, "Kimono My House" and "Propogranda." Never was all that aware of this group until recently. Love about half of the songs on both of the albums, am working on the other half.

 

IMO those are Sparks' two best albums, and "This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us" is their best song. They both were big sellers in England, but only had modest success in the U.S. That lineup and sound (heavy guitar and electric piano) was my favorite Sparks period; they never quite revisited it.

If you've never heard anything from her first album, The Virginian, try checking that one out. Half of it is old country covers, but WOW!, that voice!

Fox Confessor and her songs with The New Pornographers got me hooked on
Neko Case...I got all her CDs...Her early CDs are mainly ALT-Country heavy
which I like while her last two has her distancing herself from her early roots
and playing more adult alternative music...Which I enjoy too...

Listening to alot of "sunshine pop" for the past while, particularly compilations.  Some songs of note:  98.6 by Keith (I think I blast this every day on the drive to work), Sandy (Ronny and the Daytonas), Things I'd Like To Say (New Colony Six),  Sun (Margo Guryan), Pink Lemonade (Peppermint Rainbow), What A Groovy Day (Tony Rivers and Harmony Grass), Popsicle (Jan and Dean), Always You (Sundowners) etc....there are many many more. 

I also just played the Millenium album Begin in my car on the way to work the other day after not listening to it for awhile and the production of it just astounds me.  I think it is a brilliant album. 

Ummm...80's Beach Boys.  Rock n Roll To The Rescue, Male Ego, Where I Belong....YEAH!!! lol

After someone on the board (cant remember who) recommended Love's 'Forever Changes' in a topic last week I was intrigued enough to go buy a copy.......and I am so glad I did, what a wonderful album! I cannot get enough of it, the blending of folk, mariachi, psychedelia and rock is just brilliant.

I just came off of a Love listening frenzy.  I was listening to Forever Changes for like a month straight.  It is a great album.  Check out this awesome performance from Glastonbury 03 with the Stockholm Strings backing them up
