We really need two categories -- "the actual band plus extra musicians" vs. "extra musicians *in place of* the boys themselves"... If it's really the boys playing the basic track, a couple of horns don't really make it a Wrecking Crew track.
I would say that if the track has Denny on drums it counts as a boys themselves number, if someone else (aside from eg. Carl), it falls into WC category.
