Title: BW at QE Theatre Vancouver June 28th, 2011
Post by: joe_blow on June 29, 2011, 09:36:28 AM
I had the pleasure of seeing Brian for the second time at this great theatre. Attendance was about 2,000 with but 4 spectators on the balcony. As I was walking by the theatre earlier in the day ( I work blocks away) I noticed Brian in a van so walked by and said hello as he got out with Melinda, Jeff, and three children. He gave a slight nod then signed a few things for the couple of fans waiting.

The show it self was outstanding. The Gershwin set was done brilliantly although I had the sense the crowd was getting antsy for the Beach Boys' songs.
I happened to be sitting right behind Melinda and before the show started I was talking with some friends about past shows we had seen and mentioned the teleprompters and lack of keyboard playing. She then turned around and snapped at us "THAT"s MY HUSBAND YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT AND THESE ARE MY KIDS!"
We apologized not realizing she was there but also tinking that we didn't say anything too offensive. Her two daughters who yawned through much of both sets took to sneering at us from time to time. Lovely unspoiled kids there! At the end of the Gershwin set Melinda turned around an apologized for her snapping saying she has heard all kinds of comments but gets that way when her kids are near. She then made some small talk about her family and Canada and was quite pleasant. At the end of the show she turned around and smiled and said we hoped we enjoyed the show, which we did.

Highlights included Jeff on Don't Worry Baby, Pet Sounds, Good Vibrations and Girl Don't Tell Me. He seemed to play more keyboards than previously, on Sail On Sailor, Fun,m, Fun, Fun,Help Me Rhonda and a few others.

A good moment came when he introduced Please Let Me Wonder as "...this is a love song called...it's a good song and it's...a love song."
Here's a link from the Vancouver Sun, reviewing the show:

I believe they have more than 2 children, but yes they have a son.

The last pic posted by Brian was of himself, Melinda, Daria and Dylan. Maybe they are the only two children on this tour.

Melinda told me she skipped the Canadian tour because she has 5 kids but flew up for the Vancouver show.  There was Dylan, Daria, and according to the Facebook picture, Mike Damico's daughter Milana (lead sneerer/yawner). The two girls  (both in those fashionable lenseless glasses that make no sense to me)appeared on the stage for part of the encore set to dance and give the feel a cheesy Mike Love cheerleaders era feel to it.

I guess that proves that Brian & Mike are thick as thieves again. ;)
