So is it available on both iTunes and Amazon in the UK tomorrow? Or can I get it from iTunes now?

Yep. There is is.

Wonder if we'll ever know what Brian contributed.

Edit: Assuming he's not on there just for the sake of being on there (which is certainly possible), I'll speculate that he probably contributed to the chorus and tag section.

I would imagine that since it was an older song, Brian's contribution will have been the middle eight -- which is pretty much easily detachable from the rest of the song.

That part sounds the least like Brian imo. I have no idea what he did contribute (maybe AGD will know more soon) but I wouldn't think the middle-eight.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I agree, I'm thinking he arranged it all, just using the chords and lyrics from the old draft.

Yeah, I originally thought the middle eight would be what he contributed, but it doesn't sound like him at all.

As I said, I think he probably reworked the chorus some harmonically. And the tag with the revolving vocals is clearly his, even if that's more arrangement than co-writing.

...

The other option, as c-man has said, is that Brian came up with the title and possibly a fragment of melody back in the late 90s when he was working on Imagination (or its follow up) with Joe. Joe then worked with Jim and Larry to create a full song.

All that being said, I think it can sometimes be useful to follow the "if it sounds like it, it's probably true" rule in BB/BW land. It's not always the case, but it often is.

For example, I remember reading (inaccurately) that the Wrecking Crew did all the tracks after the first couple of albums. And I remember feeling foolish because it seemed so clear to me that those little guitar solos were by Carl. I mean, they all sounded the same. But I guess I didn't know what I was talking about.

Well, guess what? Those are all by Carl.

Likewise, if you played the TLOS demos to any real BW/BB fan, they could tell that it was a Brian writing and arranging project. You can just hear it. (And I don't think all of his ideas necessarily sound like Love You or the Wrecking Crew, but a lot do.)

So if you sit down and listen to TWGMTR, it's pretty clear that Brian had a hand in it. It has some baritone sax in the track. It has some organ. It sounds like a track he would cut with his solo band. The verses are lifts from earlier songs by him, regardless of who put them there. And that chorus -- and the way the voices weave in and out -- it just sounds like a big BW harmony orgasm.

So regardless of how the song came about -- Brian reworking something that already existed (which he did with Let the Wind Blow, for instance, which he also has a credit on) or providing the germ of an idea that others expanded upon (which has been done other times in his solo career) it has his fingerprints all over it.

And that's how it should be.

It definitely sounds like him, but then the most Brian-sounding thing on the Imagination album was Joe Thomas' tag for Sunshine, so we know that Thomas can do that kind of thing very well, too...

You mean the most Dennis-sounding thing on the Imagination album.  Grin
