No Hypehat, it is not much ado about nothing. These people are a part of the mafia, and the Beach Boys are choosing to use
a song, (the single) or perhaps multiple songs, from these people.
And it only gets better from there.

That one was memorable.

http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,7823.0.html

who can blame brian and dennis? those are a girl's peak years in terms of looking classically beautiful (i.e., youthful yet desirable) unless they get bit with the teenage goofy bug.

have you see marilyn these days? just looks like any average mother in a supermarket, no offense to her

i think brian is quite a handsome guy, he at least deserves a woman or a teenage girl with a chin!

just kidding

problem with liking girls in those years is that you will get stuck with them as they expand and wrinkle

every pretty girl is just saggy tits and wrinkled skin waiting to happen anyway, and a space filler for a coffin

it's no surprise though that brian liked girls rather than women, he seems to have been a boy more than a man

dennis was a man, so it's safe to assume he was just hungry for fresh fruit.

the beach boys have always had a sort of boyish crudeness to them about some sexual jokes. "gettin hungry". brian's p*ssy eating comments on lei'd in hawaii, etc.

all part of the lifestyle i suppose. seems sort of stupid to me, sex isn't that great in the first place.

I'd like to nominate the one when Vintage Music went to go find the button that would get him off this board.

Not totally sure what that was all about, but it was entertaining reading!

One about Melinda and a certain dark lord that I started awhile back -- it's since been removed, but archived versions pop up online now and then. And one indie paper mentioned in a BW show review a year or two back. :-D

I'm English and I got the Love reference first. Shoot me.

While we're here, surely the "smile sessions box set" thread needs some sort of mention for probably being the biggest thing this board produced.

This one got the whole Wishbone Ash thing going:
http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,9117.0.html (http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,9117.0.html)
A few of us joined a Wishbone Ash message board and started a thread called WA Vs. Beach Boys:
http://wishboneashforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2059&hilit=beach+boys (http://wishboneashforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2059&hilit=beach+boys)
Maybe not "best of" material but it's always interesting to see SS behavior spill over into other turfs.

English literature not your strong suit, is it ?

*Sigh*
So sorry Andrew, it's a Mike Love lyric as well. This is a Beach Boys forum, so I figured it was more likely you would be referencing something related to the Beach Boys.
I don't think knowing the origin of that quote makes English literature someone's strong suit anyway. That's one of the most famous quotes to come from a book.

Oddly, I know it's an ML lyric (actually, it's not: he just sings it, didn't write it), but I thought... eh, never mind.

Title: Re: The best threads of smileysmile.net
Post by: Niko on October 18, 2013, 12:43:49 AM
And I understood the fact the origin was Dickens.
I don't understand your snarkiness. You might know more about the Beach Boys than anyone alive, and your website is an amazing source of information. Why even bother posting things that appear to have nothing other than the intention to aggravate?

Title: Re: The best threads of smileysmile.net
Post by: Andrew G. Doe on October 18, 2013, 03:28:29 AM
You yourself said it's a very well known quote from Dickens, which is why I adapted it. If I'm guilty of anything, it's wrongly assuming a basic level of general knowledge around these parts sometimes.

And while the words about my BB knowledge are most kind, that was never true (and even if it had been, hasn't applied to me for decades: I've been coasting on my past reputation for a long time).

I admit that was a mistake. Now can we just forget the whole thing happened and move on?
And the only true reason why I posted that was because he was the last survivor of a major historical event. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have posted it. Although in hindsight it was a mistake.

My personal favourite. Very funny and entertaining.
But what made it truly memorable was later on with SIP Mike and Juice Bronston!
Sadly, the thread was locked before I could say anything.
I wish I could have corrected Juice Bronston when he said that the 85 album was a Mike Love masterpiece. The album wasn't Mike dominated at all, it was mainly Carl!

Title: Re: The best threads of smileysmile.net

Yeah, but he didn't produce it (It was Steve Levine).
He co-wrote 2 out of 12 songs (1 if you discount Male Ego).
He neither dominated that album or chose it's direction. Carl dominated it, and he and possibly Bruce chose the direction.
Finally, he sang no full leads, and sang co-lead on 4 songs (3 if you discount Male Ego).
So how can he possibly be the person who "painstakingly crafted such albums as M.I.U. and BB '85 and SIP".
Yes, he was the dominant force and the one who crafted M.I.U. and SIP, but it sure as hell ain't the 85' album!

That level of invective is bannable now? Really?
For your info, it was repeated several times by mods that they're gonna be very strict on the rules & watch around the board. That, in turn, means the chances of being banned in the midst of heated argument/calling names are high. As for bgas' post, it was certainly rude, he shouldn't have called rockno1fann "a loser", let alone "chump". I don't like this thing when old posters defend other old posters, while wearing their arrogance when talk to newbies. OK, bgas is a record collector & has tons of rarities, is an informative & useful contributor - so what? If he is registered here, then he have to follow the rules too, whether he wants to or not. I reckon it's a very fair move. We must treat each other equally; I do know that everyone has their so-called circle of friends here & not quickly get accustomed to new posters, but why not try? They can also be helpful & bring sth. to the discussion. So, finally, quit inducting moderators (in this case - The Real Beach Boy) what to do & what not. Each of them  knows their job better than you, Wirestone. I very doubt that if it were some 100-posts user you would say anything against their near-bannable situation.

On topic: while generally I didn't quite like the next thread, due to quarreling & derailing it with conversing about Nirvana (not really my type of music & I can't stand Kurt's voice), the last 2 pages were actually good. I liked how Newguy jokingly but oh-so-rightly called I. Spaceman "Rumpelstiltskin", kind of matches him. And the idea that they both reconciled because of Amy Winehouse, no less, is very funny. It started of Newguy's random & simple "What are your Top 3 songs by Amy?" & continued by Spaceman's innocent listing of his favorites & on & on. In other words, one of the most entertaining but also bizarre dialogs I read anywhere, the sudden turn of events is at least weird. http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,14935.125.html
