51  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike and Bruce Tour 2014 on: August 08, 2014, 08:29:32 PM
I feel that Paul's hair looked better around 2007 not because he was younger, but he didn't dye it as much. Now, I feel like he drenches his hair with brown dye. Regarding Bruce, I don't think his hair is that bad but he definitely needs to lose the shorts and put some long pants on. I don't think anyone wants to see his "unique" legs.

How does it confirm that? That's a possible reason, but it doesn't rule out all other reasons.

I said it means it is probably down to Brian (or his people if you prefer).

As he wasn`t singing it in 2011 and before and he wasn`t singing it in 2013, I would still say that is the case.
I assumed that Brian just didn't feel like singing Surf's Up. In the 2012 RS interview, I believe Brian was asked if they were going to perform any Smile tracks and he said something like "Nah, we don't wanna do any of that stuff" and Mike then told Brian that they had to at least play Heroes and Villains (which they did, at least at the show I went to). I thought that Brian comment was very Brian-like if you know what I mean.  Grin  Surf's Up live in 2012 would have been cool though.

Jon or Howie talked about these ideas or offers, what was said?

Jon Stebbins: At least 30 more C50 shows, another studio album, a bunch more high profile TV appearances etc... But I would not term it as Mike "turning them down"...I would say the prospect of these things were left on the table because they were never negotiated beyond the offer stage due to Mike's preference to return to his normal business model.

The two shows I remember mentioned was a show at Wrigley and a show at MSG. Man, those would have been great shows!
54  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: 14 Beach Boys albums coming to vinyl/SACD on: August 06, 2014, 08:54:04 PM
And, by the way, these five vinyl releases now being listed for preorder are NOT the (cancelled?) Analogue Productions releases. These are Capitol releases, not audiophile releases.

Appreciate that clarification.

And share your sentiment… I have these on original vinyl (assuming there's nothing specifically "new" about these…) and wouldd rather blow my money this year on Brian's new LP, or tracking down an affordable version of POB 3LP.

Are you really sure that you WANT Brian to release his new album, given the reports of duets with trendy 2014 pop stars? Maybe it should stay in the vaults.

Zooey, Lana, and Frank are very talented artists and I'm just happy Brian is releasing a new album at all. Many fans would be bummed out if Brian or Capitol canned the album.
55  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: If the Beach Boys did release Smile back in the day on: August 06, 2014, 08:27:07 PM
My personal opinion:

If by January 1967: Smile would have hit the Top 10, peaking at around #8 in the US and Top 5 in UK. Heroes and Villains would have hit Top 10 in US and Top 5 in UK. Both would be praised by critics in UK and mixed/positive in US.

Spring of 1967:  Smile would chart very similarly to Pet Sounds, maybe a little lower in US, at least #8 in UK. Heroes would hit Top 20 in US and Top 10 in UK. Both would be praised by critics in UK and mixed/positive in US.

Summer/Fall of 1967: Smile- Top 20-25 in US, Top 10 in UK. Heroes and Villains- Top 20 in US, Top 10 in UK. Critically: Smile- See Satanic's Request (Maybe a bit better, at least in UK)

I feel that Monterey really killed the Boys' career because people stopped giving into the "Brian the genius" campaign and were now feeling that the Beach Boys either gave up or ran out of ideas. Brian waited way too long to release a record coupled with the fact that Smiley Smile isn't the most commercial album. Also, Smile would definitely not be as famous as it is in reality.

That snippet at the beginning is not released. The version you just listened to is from Odeon's Smile bootleg which is of course not official.

I heard a piece of Be True To Your School in a Macy's Back to School commercial.

59  Smiley Smile Stuff / Welcome to the Smiley Smile board / New Member on: August 06, 2014, 05:17:21 PM
Hi, I just want to introduce myself.

I live in Philadelphia and I am a huge fan of the Beach Boys. I am also a huge fan of the Beatles, the Doors, Billy Joel and Simon and Garfunkel. I have read this board for about 2 years and I decided it's about time I join. As a note, I am well aware of the board rules and the dos and don'ts.

I also want to say that I am looking forward to posting on here as well.

Love and Mercy  Smiley,
WindChimes67
