I meant to say, "musically adventurous".  I don't want to give the impression  I  think our surviving surfer boy wouldn't risk his neck on an Amazon trek Smiley

"I believe that Bruce's quotes about being in it for the money are mostly the way he found to protect his own sanity from wacky band members and fans."

Got to be.  Let's face it, he's not short of money.  It's not like he's got eight ex-wives to pay off.  He must get an income from his own stuff and isn't he independently wealthy due to his adopted parents?  Maybe he just enjoys this stuff.  Perhaps the reason Carl and Bruce might not have got on is that Bruce isn't exactly adventurous.  After all, here's the band member who already had a successful career independent of the BB yet, with the exception of one album, he's done nothing as a solo artist since 1965 (yeah, yeah, I know he's worked with others). Maybe he just likes doing what he does.

BW had left Usher behind a long time before this...
254  Smiley Smile Stuff / 1970's Beach Boys Albums / Re: The M.I.U. Album on: February 19, 2007, 08:05:09 AM
If there's anything good to be saud for this album, it's because of My Diane and a couple of other songs - and Jardine's production papering over the cracks.  Oh yeah, and I like the pictures on the front and back...

We'll have to agree to differ on Matchpoint.  "Matchpoint... Matchpoint... Matchpoint..."  Crap.

Kinda sad that Roy Wood's career never took off in the same way, beyond a few extremely well-crasted solo singles and those with Wizzard.  Who knows? Maybe he's happy with the way things turned out, but when you see some of the 'talent' (old and new) currently doing the rounds, it makes you wonder.

If you dump Calender Girl and Brian's Back!

"Unplugged set" lobbied for by Al, I believe.  Think I read it in an Alan Boyd post on this site.

Well, two of those songs would'be improved it considerably.  Instead, we all got f***ed with Here Comes the Night!

No room for forgiveness?

I love his work with Petty on Full Moon Fever.  The new one's not bad but it's no classic.

"You fodaing DICK!"

I wondered how long it would take.
262  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Definitive on: February 13, 2007, 02:59:28 PM
Well, Mike does sing that like sh*t, but that wasn't my point:  it was BW's arrangement!

"   Another thing is, I dont think anyone here is really complaining about the new production."

"I agree with Dancing Bear, the whole note for note approach is somewhat bothersome, especially when we compare it to the original."

A big ironic  Undecided

I did too.

Is this a bad time to mention this?

"educated"?

Hey, discuss GIOMH again, if you want to discuss a BW album that sucks,  or  be negative to a project by the Boys themselves and hammer SIP, or settle on the Lovester and have a go at LBWL or all that crap he did with Adrian Baker or Dean Torrence or his fucking awful Christmas song, go ahead, but I've already done that.  This isn't a new album, it's a neat recording of one of his most famous songs for a project that required just that, by the sound of it.  I don't know whether BW has it in him to play with the arrangement of his classics any more, but as the guy's done so much and is pushing 65 (and I've already got the Wally Heider GOK), I'm not particularly stressed.
267  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New Brian version of God only knows on: February 13, 2007, 10:02:49 AM
Might've been better if he hadn't contributed at all then some of you wankers might've been satisfied.  You get the feeling if BW turned up and sang GOK in your living room, note for note perfection, you'd still bitch.  Don't buy the CD if you don't like it.  It sounds like a reasonable product and keeps our boy busy, and with the exception of Richard Marx (he was the unfunny one, right?), he's in decent company.  I mean, I'd like to think he's still got a great album in him, but I doubt it, but this is by no means a disgrace.

"he doesn't really "get" his own band"

Kinda sums it up, really.

Reminds me of San Miguel meets Heroes and Villains!

I think you're too harsh on two or three tracks there, AGD, especially Hold on Dear Brother and How She Boogalooed It.
I guess they've got to be released, so no Battle Hymn of the Republic...

Hey Little Tomboy
TM Song
Matchpoint of our Love
Belles of Paris
Summer of Love
California Calling
Crack at Your Love
Here Comes the Night (LA version)
Remember (Walking in the Sand)
Island Fever
Solar System
Passing Friend
Everyone's in Love with You
Make it Big

Plus all of LBWL, most of GIOMH and most of Youngblood Smiley
271  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wilson Phillips - gay?? on: February 03, 2007, 02:24:27 AM
"most of those bands are not gay in any interpretation of the word, nor do they 'propagate it'."

And if they were, so f***.
272  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: ELO- thoughts? on: February 03, 2007, 02:18:36 AM
Did someone say he's relaunching the band?  I thought they fell out big time.
273  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wilson Phillips - gay?? on: February 02, 2007, 09:12:34 AM
Doubtless against abortion yet they're a perfect argument for it.

As long as he cleans it up afterwards.

Nah, Jim would get his dick out.  Worse than that, he might subject us to his lyrics!

Oh yea, let's hate Kent.  Any more critics to add to this list?  I nominate Dave Marsh.
