Great LP covers/packages that the CD reissue ruined

A few to get you going - Ooh La La by The Faces - great bendy head sleeve that stuck the tongue out, plus poster with lyrics and tri-fold sleeve. CD? Crap.
Neil Young - Decade - wonderful fold-out multi piece full colour sleeve with notes etc. CD version? - some black & white pics and scrawl.
Led Zeppelin III - great swirly thing with rotating bits! - CD - nothing.
Joy Division - Still - thick cloth cover you could kill a burglar with - CD - nothing.
Ogdens Nut Gone Flake - round sleeve that is bloody useless for keeping a record in...(OK, wasn't all good - great idea though!)
Not saying by the way that CD packages are crap - in many cases the reissues are better (Who, Byrds remasters), but I miss the thought that went into the LP sleeves.

Good one!
I'd say Cryme and Foxtrot and Tail too.

And more, Sticky Fingers, Exile and Satanic Majesties! (No zip, no postcards or individual sleeves, no hologram!)
Santana - Lotus (Ok, not cool I know to admit to owning this, but the LP cover was a masterpiece of opening up all over the place - could never find the right LP's though...
Greetings From Asbury Park - the Gatefold of course....
BIG booklets with Tommy, Quadraphenia, THe Kids Are ALright, The orchestral Tommy (with wonderful artwork). Bruce live 1975-85, (at least the original CD Biograph came in a 12" box to fit the booklets in!).

I think if it was available on LP before it was available on CD, then the package was ruined. Who likes looking at a microscopic representation of a favorite album cover? The LPs are far superior, both in sound and in cover art.

Metal Box did come out on CD in the cannister, I've got one. It's a little CD sized cannister. Probably no comparison to the LPs, but when I saw the CD I thought it was a nice gesture.
I agree with Jason. No albums really look good shrunk down to 5 inches. Except for Pepper, which at least had a decent booklet, all the creativity that went into Beatle sleeves is lost on CD. They are all tossed-off pieces of sh*t.

In defense of artists who came too late to have their work properly released on LP instead of CD, they do take some pains to make imaginative CD booklets. One example I can think of is Nine Inch Nails. Reznor has some of the best-looking CDs on the market and some very original covers. Almost all of his work has been pressed for LP release, so naturally they look better.

Almost all the stuff mentioned has been released in excellent micro-LP format.

I've got it, on CD, with the swirly rotating thingy. I've got In Through The Out Door in a little paper bag. I've got Odgen's Nut Gone in a round jacket that's an exact duplicate of the original. I've got Sticky Fingers with the zipper, and Exile with the little postcards. And while my new copy of Satanic doesn't have a 3-d cover, it does have nice shiny holographic ink on it. And I too have seen the metal box Metal Box.
The Beatle ones: total travesties. Embarassment. The one exception? The little LP replica White Album they did in '98.

How about Friends/20-20? The photo of Brian hiding behind the eye chart is gone. WTF?!

They should replace it with the picture of him hiding behind the tree.

Yeah, I was gonna mention 20/20 - strange they cut out the only picture of Brian on the record....
And yes you have been able to get the odd reconstruction (ie Led Zepp III), but they aren't the generally available copies....
Another one - A Wizard a True Star......!!!!! How great was that!

"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" was a beautiful album, with the triple-fold cover. So was "Captain Fantastic," with two gorgeous booklets, one of lyrics, one a scrapbook. And a poster, too.

there is a version of Exile on Main St that is a reproduction of the original sleeve - postcards and other doo-dahs.
tis the version i have.
its a bit annoying actually, as its slightly bigger than a normal cd so it sticks out in my shelf.
but cant really complain.
