I Will

In history, only two acts have sold over a billion records. Elvis Presley and The Beatles. One of them is seeing his stock plummeting now, due to his fan base getting older and dying, Elvis. It's come to the point where UK papers are giving away his albums. Elvis memorabilia and old Sun 45's, watch them get cheaper and cheaper. Same thing will happen to The Beatles. Only a decade sets them apart. If the two best-selling acts in history will fade, so will The Beach Boys. Who knows what people will listen to one, two, or five hundred years from now.

 

 Possibly, but The Beatles and The Beach Boys are arguably more popular with younger generations than Elvis Presley. Sure, they all know Elvis, but that's a different matter than actually listening to his music. A lot of kids listen to The Beatles and The Beach Boys.

  Unlike some PET SOUNDS cuts, I never tire of "That's Not Me." It resonates strongly over the decades. Wonderful vocals by Mike, yes.

I sure hope Bruce is alright. Surfers' Pajama Party is awesome, and despite his all around general douchiness he's made some nice contributions to music. So hopefully all is well. Wishing him a quick recovery.

Oh well. I think he's a douchenozzle. But I also think he's a talented guy who has made some nice music. And while I hope that he stays in good health, I don't think he's the greatest man who ever lived. I think he's been very disrespectful to those who make his lifestyle possible and ergo, I don't think he deserves to be sainted.

However, I hope he sticks around for a long, long time.

Does Mike Love realize that he is despised, loathed, or (in some cases) hated by millions of music fans? What is this guy's level of awareness that so many people dislike him?

Sometimes he may say something like "well some people may not like such and such thing I did, but cousin Brian was on drugs and I needed to... blah blah blah."

There seem to be some quick acknowledgments that people may not like a couple of isolated acts of his. But does this dude realize how widely despised he is by so many people?

Once I found out he was implying something untoward on why I was homeless to others, I saw the pattern and the gloves came off.  Well, I shouldn't tell you how to feel about it. I get that both sides feel angry and betrayed. This is my last comment on the issue.

How long will it take to repair the damage caused by the lies and the liars, not to mention their supporters and people naive enough to believe and defend this crap? When that happens, it will be locked. Until then, how do those who got trashed and are still being trashed challenge any of it?

 Perhaps neither of you caused this, but you perpetuate it on a daily basis. AGD is gone from Smiley Smile, presumably forever. Everyone understands something funky went down. Specifics remain murky and I for one am fine not knowing.  The way forward would be to let it go, but the mods here continue to savor the whole affair. Why? Because you enjoy it. Billy's current moniker makes that very clear.

  For years and years and years, AGD's boorish behavior was tolerated, rationalized, condoned...even celebrated. Now he is Public Enemy Number One in Smiley Smile world. Funny how the wind shifts...

  Mike has been pressing the "I was the idea man" angle very hard in recent years. Yes, Mike wrote many lyrics, but it's not like he was the idea man a la Pete Townshend or Roger Waters. I'm all for Mike getting his due but his (relatively) subtle portrait of Brian as an idiot savant who could arrange great harmonies has become offensive.

 One could make the case that Dennis was the "concept guy" - didn't he live the life?
