It is very telling that the longest topic on this board is on The Smile Sessions.  380 pages of joy. - Thanks, all!
http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,10016.0.html

Its sheer length is what I find daunting. Anyone not following it from its early days has a heck of a lot of catching up to do. That said, I'm sure it makes a fascinating read. A spare decade would come in handy.  Smokin

Nearest Faraway Place needed to be further away.  [a lot further]

 LOL

I think the main offender in my eyes----and a true embarrasment in Beach Boy Land----is "All I Want To Do", the whole gosh-darn song, not just the "blue" fade. As for 20/20 in general: Maybe the peaks are too high and the troughs too low. I'll get back to it one day...

5/5 and a Happy 76th Birthday to Tony Asher!

This will always be my favourite of his. Rest in peace, sir.

I find the album version of BWPS far too "happy"

Obviously to each their own, but it is called SMiLE. Grin

I guess "Ubangi Stomp" would be out of the question.

The original of "Ubangi Stomp" is exactly the type of material I have always envisaged for this rock'n'roll album of his.

I fear a attempt at a rock and roll record at this late stage in the game would result in 15 Big Ones Part 2.

That's it! This could be his big opportunity to make amends for 15 Big Ones and cut the album of oldies originally projected back in '76.

2Mary: Hi. :=)

2Hamstring: That wild one-word story thingie----it's ground to a halt. What a pity...

Ditto what Wirestone said about age, haha, but unlike most folks here I had never heard all of SMiLE until I bought BWPS. And even after buying TSS (the single CD format), I still prefer Brian's 2004 take. The original is in many ways a hair-raising listen but BWPS is warm and autumnal, like a sunset after a stormy day.

I almost forgot... welcome, nakostopoulos! :=)

How about some rock'n'roll comedy, for example Ray Stevens' "Bridget The Midget"?

This is one people used to sing at me in the late 60's, early '70s but that I only heard within the past couple of years:

"Speak To Me, Clarissa" by Alan Trajan

I must confess that heart isn't the first bodily part that comes to mind when I think of that topic. Smokin

Honky Tonk is a load of Garbage.

Aww. I much prefer the more upbeat BB version to the original...

Gotta name a couple of posters who always raise my spirits----Bean Bag and Smilin Ed H. Not to forget the voice of reason, Dr Beachboy. Kudos, guys. Lots more folks I appreciate but those names come readily to mind...

It seems one of your "dolts" is Stephen McParland. If you have Abbott's Back to the Beach, check out pages 22-25.

I do agree with you about the Surfin' USA album being solid----the Carl-Dave machine in full flight...
6219  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Louie Louie singer Jack Ely passes on: April 29, 2015, 01:28:20 AM
Jack sang my all-time favourite pop record. Ironically, by the time "Louie" took off, Ely was out of The Kingsmen----forced out in a farcical reshuffle.

R.I.P., sir. The record you sang on changed my life.

My problem with it being GOK----trying to think straight here----is that since Tony Asher is credited with writing the lyrics, why would these have taken Brian so long? I can imagine him getting forgetful about some things from so long ago but this just seems odd...
6221  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: American Songwriter: Writer of the week, Brian on: April 28, 2015, 08:43:24 AM
I'm not on Facebook but I noticed this string while trawling the net:

"Where is the song "Go Away Ghost"? Brian said in an"

It's somewhere on Brian's FB page. Maybe it will elicit an answer...

Maybe it's a song he never released?

It does look that way. Nothing else makes sense (particularly "Runaway Dancer" Grin).

Of course it might be "Go On Away, Goats", a song Brian wanted to tack onto Pet Sounds after the San Diego Zoo photo shoot. Smokin

Was reworked in 1977 by Lindsey Buckingham as "Goat Your One Way" for Fleetwood Mac's Rumours LP

Haha. To say nothing of The Police's fourth album... Grin
