To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Thought I'd put some Beach Boys connections here:
The Beach Boys and Little Richard - Happy Endings (DJ L33 Audio and Music Video Remaster)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfkZVKqsTNs
American Bandstand 1964- Interview Little Richard
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjARpbNjFkw
He mentions that he will be touring with the Boys.
Little Richard Ft Debbie Gibson - Itsy Bitsy Spider
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVZXAXFXHF0
You just look at the guy (who is for whatever reason) on trompete (yellow shirt)!
And of course the short but sweet version of "Long tall Sally" by the Beach Boys:
Fooling Around: Heart And Soul / Long Tall Sally (Party! Sessions Mix/Session #5)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJmmazJDR4U
Oh and here's a more recent version of Brian and band playing "Keep a-knockin":
Brian Wilson - Keep A Knockin'/Surfs Up/The Right Time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejl50mNvBIo
There used to be an interview with Richard, Mike Love and Bruce Johnston on youtube but it seems to be gone.

Somehow I thought Little Richard would live forever, almost - he always seemed perennially young in some way. Whereas Elvis seemed pretty old when he died at 42, basically the same age as me, the youth of Little Richard as well as the fire in Jerry Lee Lewis would see them both outlive their peers. Now only Jerry Lee remains of that first generation. Their legacy is so huge, it’s immeasurable. RIP the Georgia Peach.

I don't believe that the Death will ever dare try again to take Jerry Lee with him. The Killer will end on his own terms.

Yes, Richard always seemed so energetic, so full of fire, just brimming with life. I saw a video of him a couple years ago on a Seventh Day Adventist channel, no wig, no makeup, no flashy clothes...I didn't recognize him. He looked good for an 80-something man, he was still funny, but he couldn't move, confined to a wheelchair. Old age is no fun. But he kept Father Time at bay for several decades.
I'm glad he lived long enough to receive the honors he so deeply deserved.

I'd assumed Richard and Jerry Lee were immortal--not so, it seems.
My first memory of Little Richard was hearing his raucous version of "Baby Face" on the radio as a kid in 1959. (I see it reached #2 in the UK.)
Four years later I heard the even more raucous flipside in a musical instrument store in my home town--at ear-splitting volume. Ooo mah soul!!

To quote Greil Marcus, he knew how to rock. Rest in peace, sir.

You're welcome!
At first I was afraid this would be a list of only his 50s hits, but was pleasantly surprised when I saw the songs from later years. Especially my favorite "I don't know what you got". That's such a great record!
Oh and by the way, I just listened to my LP of "The second coming". It's actually better than what I remembered. If you like funk then this could be interesting for you.

Little Richard's Life In 10 Songs
Today we celebrate the life of the self-proclaimed innovator, originator and architect of rock and roll, Little Richard. Richard Penniman died on May 9 from bone cancer at the age of 87. We take a look at his remarkable life, breaking racial and gender barriers in the 1950s. His hit songs and electrifying performances changed the course of music and influenced Elvis, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Bob Dylan, Prince, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, and so many others.
