So I just got a new kitten & I want to name him something commemorating the Beach Boys! Only problem is I'm stumped >:(

Any ideas??? He's a little black kitten, I'll post a pic later if anyone wants to see him. I thought about Hero for a name as in Heroes & Villians but Im not sure yet & wanna get some other ideas.

Choosing the right name is important. The wrong name can be a catastrophe.

I'd name it either Minor Seven in Second Inversion (you can just say -7⁶₄ or Dog. Either way, you can't lose. Both are great names.

Our last cat, who was with us for twelve years WAS named Wilson, after the BB Wilsons. It's a great name for a cat.

I had a black cat that looked very much like yours.  Named her Rhonda.  But i'd agree that Pawthorne is the best name submitted so far.  Eric's suggestion of Coca Moe is also a really good one.

Cocoa (Coco) Moe. Didn't see that before, excellent idea Eric! Not necessarily their most beloved effort (discussed ad nauseum elsewhere) but it does undeniably encapsulate one aspect of their overall band identity and image, for better or worse. If your feelings about the song create positive associations with the name, it's obviously a good one!

I kind of like the obscure that only those in the know would understand. A thread came up awhile back for a car number plate and some good ones came up there.

My weird idea would be 'Sounds', as in your Pet 'Sounds'.

I think Pawthorne has the board vote though.

How about "Julius"

His name is KOKOMO!!!!  :) Thank you so much to everyone who put gave me an idea, they were all great and it was really hard for me to pick. Especially between Pathorne & Kokomo. Kokomo ended up winning out though in my fam. I dont really have a spelling yet because I know someone said Coca Moe, but whatever lol...thats his name! In case any one else was wondering my brother picked out the name Tangerine for the other kitty.

Wow, what a cutie! Even with closed eyes. The beige girlie behind is beautiful too! Generally, I like all kinds of cats, but most of all - entirely-black-colored. Forget what people say, they don't bring misfortune, it's a silly old-fashioned sign.

Sorry, but these are awful, especially the former. Didn't get what is "cute" about it (nothing against you, Billy). Same is Kokomo/Cocoa Moe or whatever similar. Too banal. Anyway, in case blackie has died or you want to have more cats, I'll suggest:

- Wilson (maybe typical, but sonically just perfect for a cat);
- Al (no comments);
- Friend(-ie) (because it's obvious that cats are people's friends);
- Farmer's (I know, you aren't from family of farmers but still it's a nice name, I think);
- Custom (in the official birth document he will be known as "Custom Machine". Idk, it sounds cool to me);
- CalSaga (girl name; if boy's name, then simply Cal);
- 409 (coz cats have 4 legs, 0 of stupidity & 9 lives);
- John/Johnnie/Johnny (I always liked this English name plus after "Sloop John B" or "Johnny Carson". Officially he would be called like that anyway);
- Crocodile/Crockie (after the song "Crocodile Rock");
- Ahoy (official full name - "The Water Chant");
- Dixie Trombone;
- Wendy (one of my favorite American girl names);
- Monster Mash (official name "Boris ... ... Love").

I scrolled thru 3 pages of good suggestions to see a cat named after a city in Indiana.  :p

I'm gonna create nine kids in the next nine months so each name on this list gets a home.

My next kitten is gonna be named Murry. Even if it's a girl, I'm afraid.

My cat is named Wilson.  Fat and old now, but in many ways resembles his namesake.

"Mr. Wilson" is a nice alternative, but people would probably think it was a Dennis the Menace reference over a John Cale song. I kind of like the Mister part... more formal for a big doughy old tabby who sits around on the porch all day waiting to be fed.

Name him "Sounds." Then, you can introduce him as "My pet, Sounds..."

And I think she's pretty musical overall. She kept us company during a long mixdown session last weekend, laying next to the right monitor for hours. I also see an interest in learning to play the pedal steel:

I could probably teach her how to move the tone bar up and down the strings with one paw, the other has claws which would work for fingerpicks, but unfortunately those back paws won't reach the pedals and she has no knees to speak of for the knee levers.  The interest is there but it seems regular non-pedal steel may be a better pursuit.  :-D

2guitarfool2002: I remember you posting the 1st cat picture last year, in the official TWGMTR review thread. I immediately liked it then. She's real beauty queen and highly photogenic. Besides, she's got the coolest taste in music! Keep bringing her to the studio & she'll rival you in sound engineering, without a trace of doubt.

Great story (and photo)! I think you need to teach her play gradually - from easy to complex. Let her stick for awhile with convenient stuff, what she's interested in the most.
If I had a cat now, we'd play 4 hands piano, that's for certain.

Additional info: there is one funny feature about cats that exists - seeming indifference & selfishness. Having 2 cats in the past, I observed that they treat people around them in a way, as if we are actually pets & they - masters of the house. Gotta love these animals!
