Dennis & Daryl album from 1970 anyone? Now since POB/Bambu has been given proper treatment, and so has The Dragons B.F.I. I think its time for an earlier compilation of Dennis Rumbo type stuff. And I know that Dennis was recording an album to be called Dennis & Daryl, but how much of it exactly was recorded? I love Denny's voice around this time, its in its prime!

This is great, this says a couple of things;
1) People will pay money for a great physical package, rather than downloading illegally (or legally for that matter)
2) The mystique of this album certainly added to its success (a bit like Smile)
3) Putting a bit of thought and money into the publicity can really help rather than regurgitating the same old stuff every summer.
4) That said,  A well put together Beach Boys package with the best unreleased stuff they've got could possibly do very well, providing they give it a great campaign like with the Dennis thing and they stop pussyfooting around with the odd couple of unreleased numbers (Endless Harmony, Hawthorne CA) and give us the proper works.
5) A lot of the publicity around this release went into what a flawed character Dennis was, I think if there was some sort of archive release of 70s Beach boys, the lions share of the stuff would be Brians and perhaps some sort of carefully worded approach about what a flawed and disturbed character he was by then might help people to understand the context of some of these recordings and also build a 'mystique' around it. I'm sure someone knows what I mean.
6) As said a Dennis collection could do well, we could go with 'Forever; The best of Dennis Wilson in the Beach Boys'

Little Bird
Be still
A time to live in dreams
Never learn not to love
Be with me
Celebrate the news
Slip on Through
Got to know the woman
Forever
Sound of Free
Lady
I'm going your way
Wouldn't it be nice to live again
Make it good
Barbara
Cuddle up
I've got a friend
Carry me Home

Thats 19 songs off the top of my head that are sung by Dennis (or mostly) which with a bit of jigging could make a cohesive set.
Of course thats not even including Only with you, It's a new day, 4th of July, San Miguel, All I want to do, It's about time, Steamboat and Baby Blue which though are obviously great Dennis songs might dilute the 'Dennis singing his own songs' approach.
Anyway, i'm sure someone at Capital is thinking about it now!

AMAZING!

Let's hope this sends out a signal to the folks at Capitol... This is still a market for rare and unreleased Beach Boys material...

A Smile box set would be quality material... And there are still enough good unreleased songs to fill at least one full length CD.

Does anyone have an idea what a # 8 placing on the catalogue album charts is equivalent to had it been on the Top 200?

However... The inclusion of the Bambu disc proves that you can succesfully release an album that was abandoned decades ago with 90% of the material 90% finished... :D

A question I asked on another thread that seemed to have gone unanswered was if POB was counting double in terms of units becuase it is a two disc release. Anyone?

According to the U.S. sales numbers I have POB/Bambu would have been approx. #95 on the Billboard top 200 had it been eligible for inclusion yesterday...which ironically is one position higher than its highest placing in 1977.

Also...POB/Bambu is ranked #8 in Internet sales according to Billboard as of yesterday.
