I realize that. Just seems odd this late in the game to get a pre-order going. Also odd: I checked Capitol's website and they don't even have TSS as an upcoming release...
Heh. I think the lesson we can garner here is that Capitol isn't too hip to the Internet.
More like not too hip on promotion in general

It was somewhat apparent before, but man is Brian
everywhere
on the vocals. Several tracks sound like it's just him doing all the harmonies, lead, etc. I have to wonder if a lot of what we had were just scratch takes? Or if he was doing even more of the work himself out of need for perfection and/or dissatisfaction with the other guys' work than he was on Pet Sounds?

Except for the disc 1 Barnyard, Look, and Surf's Up (Barnyard particularly being horrid), everything sounds unbelievably amazing. What a dream come true. I felt like crying. Well, i actually teared up a few times. Other times i screamed from excitement. My jaw is still on the floor. Mind totally blown. And this just from 30 second snippets. I have no doubt this stuff comprises the greatest pop music recordings of all time. I feel like i can never write music again. A lot more stuff than i anticipated is new to me. So much amazing weirdness. So much sublime spellbinding gloriousness. And the fidelity! The stuff that is revealed from the clarity of the quality. I have no doubt i will be listening to this intently for the rest of my life. What a beautiful document, and so comprehensive. And yeah, the Beach Boys were easily the greatest singers. Brian Wilson, the greatest pop composer/arranger/producer. And you all seriously have no taste: Teeter Totter Love is really fuckking great, i knew it would be, i had no doubt. How it can be described as awful is insane. In fact, from now on, i will use Teeter Totter Love to gauge the validity of people's music opinions, and to determine whether or not they're a boring person.

I'm on that site but I don't see the tracks to click/listen to...all I see is the sets that are available and "info" that I can't read.
The "info" is nothing of interest. Nothing too wrong in it, and only missing a few space characters, but it is a pretty uninformed traduction of a originally English text, I can tell you.
This German SMiLE site is weird. It is obviously official, but has a lot of typos. "Good Vibration" ??? And there's a contest/raffle limiting the entry date to "31.01.2011" - they
must
mean "31.10.2011", don't they? There are two more typos on that page.
And one of the three sellers you can go to from that page is selling the set for 188 Euros instead of 120 like the other two.

I'm not listening to it, I just can't, I'm usually not one to be uptight about spoilers but man this is one time when I just can't spoil it for myself. But it's tough, so so tough.
Phil will be back once the box set is released. People seem to have some fixation on him. I think Moniker's posts earlier were far more negative. Not calling you out Moniker, just using you as an example. Nobody jumped all over him and called for him to be rebanned, people are just focusing on Phil unnecessarily. But blah.
I'm so excited guys.

I opted for free shipping from Amazon because I'm cheap. My plan was to abstain from
Smile
chat (and listenin' too) until I got a hold of the box myself, but since I went for free shipping it will get here sometime from the seventh to the tenth of November. Given what I've read thus far, I'm rethinking my thriftiness on this front; I don't know if I can wait that long!

I'll just say this once more - the sheer audio quality of this release will blow you away. Yes, most of us here have most of the material on it but, to take one example, the 'Cornucopia' version of "Vega-Tables" has had 44 years of audio murk sandblasted away: it's like you never heard it before. Even the tracks sourced from acetate are amazing... well, sonically - "Teeter-Totter Love" sucks in every other area.
As for Mark's being a fan mix... what other fan was working from the original multitracks with the approval of the original artist ? I guess you could call it a fan mix, but only if you allow that Brian's a fan of his own music.

I always opt for free "super saver" shipping on eligible items on Amazon.com, and I regularly receive items in 2 or 3 days that were estimated to take 7-10 days . Your mileage may vary. Maybe I live close to a warehouse or something, but that's invariably been my experience when ordering in-stock items such as new CD releases. As such, I too opted for free shipping on my Smile box. And I'd be very surprised if it came any later than November 3.

Same day shipping was only like 7 dollars extra, I figure it's smile, getting it the first day is worth a measly 7 dollars. You guys could probably still get same day shipping, or at the very least cancel your preorder and reorder it and select same day.
