From the genres I enjoy the most IMO the better albums will be:
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest (crap title) Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (hate this album title) Amy Winehouse - Back To Black Avalanches - Since I Left You (their 2nd one is never coming...) Beirut - The Flying Club Cup Black Keys - Brothers Brian Wilson - Smile (this doesnt really count I suppose, I consider Smile a 60's album) Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming The National - High Violet Panda Bear(Noah Lennox) - Person Pitch (better than Animal Collective, very BW in his production and vocals) Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix Radiohead - Kid A (maybe In Rainbows as well?) Sufjan Stevens - Come On Feel The Illinoise! Vampire Weekend - Contra (many will disagree, but more or less all the tracks are substantial, perhaps pretentious?) Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Yeasayer - All Hour Cymbals (same issue as with Vampire Weekend I suppose)
there are some more, but these should find som general acceptance, I recommend a listen to all of them.

Non Smiley Smile Stuff / General Music Discussion / Re: Sunflower dropped from rolling stone magazine top 500 albums

The problem with the list is primarily:
It ranks them explicitly, instead of just saying they are all top 500, the part with the Beatles have 4 albums top 10 shows how uninspired this magazine is. Many people would not even make White album top 4 beatles. 'honey pie' is an example of this.
It encompasses too many genres, and therefore becomes redundant, how can one compare Sunflower with Kanye West, it just doesnt make sense. Like comparing different fish T_T

Your opinion on the KTSA cover is, um interesting. I consider the KTSA artwork utterly obnoxious and perhaps one of the most tasteless covers of all time, tho it did represent the band at the time - out of touch with anything. And more or less all the music on it is garbage and disposable, I would actually ( Am I getting banned now?) buy MIU over KTSA.

Critics of wal-mart don't like it for several reasons.
1. they don't have a union. This really pisses off people who like unions, since Wal Mart represents 2% of the U.S. economy (they're the biggest employer in the u.s.).
2. they sell things cheap because they beat down their suppliers to the absolute bottom dollar... they'll bring in a company that makes t-shirts, and show them a t-shirt they can buy in korea for half the price, and if they can't match the price, they'll buy the korean one.
3. their stores and policies are boring, cookie cutter capitalism.
-----
Personally, I have no problem with them because I tend to lean libertarian. Sure, they make all their goods in sweatshops, but people work in sweatshops because if they don't, they have no job at all. That doesn't sit well with some people, but it's still a reality.
I happen to like capitalism. Wal-Mart has put tons of moms and pops out of business, but it all started with 1 man, Sam Walton. I don't hate him for kicking ass more than anybody else has. What wal-mart can dominate with low prices, they can't possibly make up with quality, so if a mom and pop has better service or better quality products they'll still be competitive.
I'm also against unions, so that doesn't bother me.
I'm happy to shop at any store, but then again if you can't stand Wal-Mart that's your perogative. Just don't hold your nose so high that you can't see how their super-cheap prices and convienent locations help millions of American families. Also don't miss how everytime a Wal-Mart opens it's doors, you have 50 times the applications for jobs as what they can provide. It takes a lot of work to get hired at Wal-Mart, people are dying for a job there.
And don't forget that people that get jobs at Walmart can at least afford to eat Dog food, where the ones that don't have to live on the streets. And so what if more and more mom and pop stores go under, at least the Chinese and Koreans will be able to keep making their crap to sell at Walmart; heck, who even cares if all americans lose their jobs, as long as Walmart makes $$ and Ron is happy I have to hand it to you americans. Your system is rubbish, people live in poverty and can only survive by going to the 1 Big American Patriotic Store - Walmart. Get yourselves a welfare state. I live in Norway and it is truely the way to go, Northern Europe is all welfare states, and few if any are poor, an everyone is free. To put it this way, not much 'We are the 99%" protests over here, apart from a very few London hippies.

what about Kono Coast or Rock and roll music. rock an roll music sounds like the aural equivalent of an old alcoholic's stale body odor after having pissed himself countless times. but that's just me. Or that Loop-de-Loop Christmass song.
Wow i forgot about that late-70's christmas album, there is so much sh*t on that! Loop-de-loop... thank goodness Jack Reily pulled Al from that mess. Maybe his action caused Al to wear the 'Stay Clean With Al Jardine' shirt LOL!

The music world hit a crossroad in 1967. It was going to go in either two directions. The Beatles or The Beach Boys.
These two bands were opposites in the music industry in the sense that the Beatles had a guitar-based sound, The Beach Boys (in reality just Brian) had a vision of creating innovative orchestral sound. This culminated in PS and Smile, however their influence extended over to Sgt Pepper, making that the only Beatles album to blend the two (perhaps causing it to be so wildly loved?). After Brian's dream of what music could be was shattered, the Beatles returned to minimalistic music (and the bandwagon music industry followed them).
I find it quite interesting that the guitar is loved as a central instrument to such an extent and that it continues to dominate the music industry today. Brian had more subtle and unique way of using it.

...everything sounded so low budget after smile even though i loved it i'm still saddened that he didnt work with the wall of sound and create more mastrpieces You've not heard an album called Sunflower, I take it. That album was decent actually besides wild honey it's my favorite post smile album . ..None of us fans can honestly say that the post smile material is what made us beach boy fans lol..we all know it's the pre-pet sounds and pet sounds and smile songs that really made us want 2 tap into the beach boys music. and really made us fanatics. The song that got me hooked was the first BB song I ever heard: Surf's Up

It doesn't look good. But if I like the music...I don't care.
That is really what matter, After all Summer in Paradise had some pretty good artwork but the album was horrible and of course Pet Sounds is a MUCH better album than it's cover. The artwork for Summer In Paradise is the most dismal and rediculous cover to ever come out. It can only be compared to one other cover which matches it in blandness and lack of taste: Keepin' The Summer Alive. These two albums are the least tasteful covers of famous albums I can think of.

I'm surprised that The Night Was So Young, I Bet He's Nice, Johnny Carson or Had To Phone Ya are not on the list. They all beat anything by Bruce.
Otherwise I think the list is rather well done, perhaps too heavy on PS and Smile? I wouldnt put Let Us Go Away For Awhile in the top 20, nor would many other!
