Title: My suggestion For The Next BB Release (Alan, Mark etc.)
Post by: petsite on June 03, 2007, 12:42:49 PM
They did it in Japan (see below). There seems no reason not to do it here. The tracks can be copied from the masters assembled for all of the releases of the last 6 years......tell Brother to at least consider it.

Maybe as a bonus, you could include Brian's original version of All Dressed Up For School  with the handclaps that were added during the mixdown. ;D

BTW - Does anyone have the set pictured? It seems VERY interesting. If someone does, could you please list the tracks for each of the CDs?

What is it, a box of singles? Like what they did with the Stones and Who?

It is all of the single mixes of the BB 1960's output. They had the 45 version of "Why Do Fools" and "Never Learn" among other. From everything I have been told, the sound quality was excellent. But I am sure that Mark could really make it shine with the newer technology!

How many discs in the set?

It seems like a mono discography of the early albums (Surfin' USA through All Summer Long) would be in order too.

I certainly can't dispute that that set looks quite nice. But I'd much rather get some unreleased material rather than another reissue, no matter how nice it looks, and even if it provides some mixes we don't have on CD. I'd rather see at some later point all of the 60's albums released with both mono and stereo mixes (where mono and/or stereo mixes existed and/or where a stereo remix is possible) which could give us all the mixes of both album tracks and, via bonus tracks, singles as well.

AMEN. The remixes and such are cool...kind of...but how about something we don't (legitimately) have already? That is the kind of thing that would get me excited tos pend my money. I salivate over the prospect of an eventual, legitimate, pristine sounding...

(wait for it)

...

What I'm (or it's) trying to say is...

BASEBALL!

My favorite Dennis vocal ever. I am not kidding. I effin' love that song!

But seriously, the archives have so much unbelievable material still not legitimately released, while I appreciate re-releases of things, it's those (generally) unheard materials I would love to see out there.

BASEBALL!

The song is actually "It's Trying To Say (Baseball)," a Brian composition with Dennis on lead vocals from the unreleased Adult/Child album. I don't know what it is, but I think it's a tremendously charming song.

why does Japan and the UK always get the good releases?  we're the US danget, the Beach Boys are AMERICA'S BAND!

You could just as easily ask why does Brian tour mostly England and Europe these days with very few U.S. dates. Some of us aren't in a position to fly off to other countries (or other parts of the U.S. for that matter) just to see a concert.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled thread....

Mike Love's conception of the Beach Boys is America's Band. The classic era from Pet Sounds to Holland, not so much.

This was may wish for the next disc:

Another two-discer, some of it's a bit lousy songwise, but it'd be nice to have it in good quality:

1:

Back Home [1963] / Side Two / What'd I Say? [live] / Girls on the Beach [session excerpt, Mike's "joke" vocal] into / Girls on the Beach [vocals only] / Honda 55 / Don't Back Down [live] / Karen / She Knows Me Too Well [first version] / Please Let Me Wonder [Mike vocal] / Kiss Me Baby [track only] / Help Me, Rhonda [session excerpt] into / Help Me, Rhonda [live 1966] / Girl Don't Tell Me [alternate version] / Sandy / Papa-oom-mow-mow [live 1965] / Fun, Fun, Fun [live 1965] / Sherry She Needs Me / I Should Have Known Better [slower version] / The Times They Are A-Changin' [no overdubs] / Riot In Cell Block #9 /  California Girls [Party!] / Blowin' In The Wind / Smokey Joe's Cafe / Satisfaction / You're So Good To Me [live 1966] / You've Got To Hide Your Love Away [live 1966] / God Only Knows [live 1966] / Barbara-Ann [live] / Cabinessence [vocals only] / Child Is Father Of The Man

2:

Water chant / Mrs. O'Leary's Cow / Look / Little Red Book / The Letter / Game Of Love / I Was Made To Love Her [with tag] / With A Little Help From My Friends [pitch corrected] / Mona Kanau [sp?] / All I Want To Do [live] / Slip On Through [session excerpt / alternate take] / I'm Going Your Way / Rock And Roll Woman [live] / Over The Waves / Walkin' / Back Home [1970] / Awake [demo] / Your Song [live] / Lady / Sound of Free / Til I Die [demo] / My Solution / Wouldn't It Be Nice? [live 1970] / Seasons In The Sun / Telephone Backgrounds on a Clear Day / Okie From Muskogee [live] / Wouldn't It Be Nice To Live Again? / I've Got A Friend [live]

That would cover the first decade nicely for me.

It's not much to write home about honestly.  Lead vocal by Dennis and some really bad lyrics.

That's not a bad little track-listing.  I'd buy it at least.  :-)

"Telephone Backgrounds on a Clear Day"

What's this? Never heard of that one... can anyone shed any light?

Thanks!

It's a moog piece by Carl, recorded during the Surf's Up sessions. It's not a song, so much, by what Alan Boyd has said, but still...

As opposed to all those truly insightful and brilliant Beach Boys lyrics out there...

I like plenty of them--but they're just pop lyrics, at least as dopey as anyone else's pop lyrics and usually dopier. That was my point.

Yeh true but some of them are still pretty clever. I wouldnt call Til I Die dopey.

Im not saying they are on par with Wordsworth or Shakespeare or something, alls I was saying was that their not "dopey". I dont think they are THAT brilliant except in the fact that its so simply written yet so poignant.

:lol I see your point with most of the lyrics. Some of them are beyond dopey even, some are just downright pathetic. Eg: Summer of Love...

I would love to hear some original Brian Wilson songs/productions with Mike, Al, Bruce, Dave or even Blondie or Ricky singing on it. I think that the Gettin in Over My Head album, as far as producing and song writing was excellent. Unfortunately, its hard to listen to Brian singing lead for 45 miniutes. Another idea would be for Brian to get 2nd generation BBs or girls to sing the songs.

Something more Dennis-centered. I would like an official release of Dennis singing Good Timin, for example.

What 'non-official release' is Dennis singing Good Timin' available on?  Any live concert footage of this someone can post to youtube?

Oh Myn God!! I don't care how much it costs - I am buying that thing! Why can't we get releases like that over here in sunny Jersey? (Not New Jersey folks, the channel islands one..)
