I actually like Passing Friend, although it goes on far too long...

Sounds like a winner!

He was a wee bit drink during the vocals, though...

This song is a tricky one. It's from Side 2 of Today, so one is supposed to like it, but I don't. And Dennis is the lead singer, so you're supposed to like his (rare) lead vocal, but I don't. And most BB biographies/books praise this song, but I still don't get it.

And see...that's what makes me dislike it even more. It gets all this praise, and besides the track itself, I can't stand it.

I feel bad for her baby though...isn't she like 5 months old or something?

Yeah, that part is alright. It's that damned tempo change that does it for me.
12308  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: In the Back of My Mind on: February 08, 2007, 10:10:54 AM
I think it would've worked better as an instrumental. It's not just the vocals themselves...it's the *rhythm* of the vocals that bother me. It sounds clunky and forced. I don't think any other singer could've made it work.
12309  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Definitive on: February 08, 2007, 10:08:01 AM
And I don't see what so horrible about Winds Of Change...
I hate the production, and Al sounds like Kermit the Frog.
12310  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Definitive on: February 08, 2007, 05:35:37 AM
I seriously don't like the vocals on it, and personally feel the rhythm is off. I also hate the ending. To me, it's seriously overrated.
12311  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Definitive on: February 08, 2007, 04:26:31 AM
for me..School Days, Endless Harmony, In the Back of My Mind, Don't Back Down (my least fav. vocal by Brian from the "Classic Era" besides the following), that cuckoo clock song from the first album, Winds of Change, the carl version of Oh Darlin, I'm So Lonely, and Still Cruisin (mainly for the plastic, brittle production)
12312  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Definitive on: February 07, 2007, 05:54:15 PM
No need for a compilation - just burn them a copy of Summer In Paradise.

But.. OK, FWIW:

Summer Of Love
Passing Friend
When Girls Get Together
Hey, Little Tomboy
Love Is A Woman
TM Song
Hold On Dear Brother
Student Demonstration Time
Transcendental Meditation
How She Boogalooed It

That should do the trick.  Roll Eyes

No Barbara Ann?

Why not James Earl Jones? He was the voice of Darth Vader, and Brian loves space, so...

LOL

I think neither of them has the right to be called the Beach Boys.

Pink FLoyd's a moot point too, as they haven't done anything (apart from live Cool since 1994 anyway.

Which song was that for?

Does anybody know Ron Brown's whereabouts?

I thought that was Jamerson... LOL

I actually prefer Incesticide to In Utero; I know it was a compilation of pre-Nevermind material, but IMHO it has better, more creative songs (albeit with truly dodgy drumming in parts)

LOL Good catch, Joe.

lets face it. if the umpteenth reisue of PS doesn't faze you, then i feel sorry for you...what royalties does he get from the millionth pressing of "sloop fodaing john b"? jut a joke, but really now...brian has not done anything really original minded since "bells of madness", lets face it!! anybody think different? prove it!

And even that ended with a "Shortenin Bread" style riff. Overall good song, though, and I like that as a cut-off point for originality. I would argue the point for"Walking in the Path of Life", "Christmasey" and "What I really Want for Christmas", though. But yeah, besides those, just about everything else is a remake.

NO merda BRO...I'M WITH YOU. "LOVE" IS PHENOMINAL & HAS A GREATER POINT. I BELIEVE BRIAN'S "PEOPLE" ARE SEEING DOLLARS AND STARS AND HE SHOULD GET OFF HIS OVERLY MEDDED ASS AN DO SOMETHING UNIQUE HIS DAMN SELF!!!!!

I don't think that't Brian's doing as much as his "people". Let's see though how this 4-part project he's unveiling later this year works out before we get too worked up. He does need to let PS rest though; it's becoming much like the oldies are for Mike & Bruce. Really sad, and strange too...never foresaw PS being done to death. Who'd have ever forseen that?!
12322  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: East Coast: Brian Wilson Concert on: February 05, 2007, 07:21:31 AM
Sigh.... lucky Nor'easters!

So why doesn't Brian play any shows in the Southeast US these days? Some of us fans can't afford the luxury of travelling to other parts of the country or the world to catch these shows.

+1
X3

Come to Houston, Brian!
12323  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What would YOU choose for a BW set-list ? on: February 05, 2007, 07:20:12 AM
He could sing "Shortenin' Bread" for two hours as far as I'm concerned, as long as there was not the smallest trace of "Barbara-fodaing-Ann" in the show.

LOL
12324  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Instruments on on: February 04, 2007, 01:05:28 PM
Is there any evidence to suggest Brian played bass on the album at all, or did he last play bass on SDSN (or Pet Sounds)?

Quote
Brian seems to have played much of the bass for Smiley Smile, with bass cameos on SDSN and Pet Sounds.

I think that by comparing the sound of the bass when we know Ron Brown is playing (TTGA, live on tour) to other tracks it can be infered that he played on a lot of WH tracks.
Is "he" meaning Brian or Ron, in this case?

Put some new stuff up. Also, coming soon is a cover of Daniel Johnston's funeral home. Yes...I specialize in instrumental tracks, and I'm covering an a capella song....

Should be up by the end of next week.
