Who wrote the GnR songs back in their glory days? Appetite For Destruction thru Use Your Illusion. Did they write the songs together?

Generally Axl Rose, then most often Izzy Stradlin. Then the others as less frequent contributors.

Musically Izzy Stradlin is about 90% responsible for what you hear on Appetite.  The lyrics were pretty much all Axl with contributions from Izzy.  The Use Your Illusion era was a mixed bag.  Axl wrote a lot of the progressive huge sounding productions, Izzy went for a Stones/Faces sound later found on his solo albums and Slash and Duff chruned out some clunkers.  Slash can write great lead parts, but from what I understand he isn't much of a writer.
