Mike Bloomfield is my favorite blues guitarist* of all, particularly for his work with the Paul Butterfield Band and Electric Flag, and of course side one of Super Session, but I never really was familiar with KGB. A good listen is Live at the Fillmore West 1969 with Nick Gravenites and friends. "It Takes Time", "Blues On A Westside" and "Carmelita Skiffle" (he lived on Carmelita Drive in Mill Valley, CA) are among the standout tracks. Taj Mahal comes on to sing one as well.
* Overall, probably have to cite Toy Caldwell, Brian Setzer and Carlos Santana.

Just unpacked a bunch of tee shirts last night, well, my wife did, actually, from our recent move back to Texas. Among them are one from each of the three of Les Chan's 1980's "Keepin' The Summer Alive" conventions that I attended, a nice blue one with the American Indian on horseback, a white 25th Anniversary, a yellow 1982 tour, a tan 1975 BB - Chicago tour, white 1983 tour "muscle T-shirt", the aforementioned blue and white baseball-type jersey, and somewhere, haven't unearthed it yet, one from the cancelled 1980's Soviet Union tour. Haven't worn any of them for probably 25 years.

This is great stuff. The first couple of vocals seem a little softer than say 409 or Shut Down, but still quite catchy. They seem to get a harder edge on Super 39. Tuck and Roll has a nice hollow surf tone to it, and the title even fits the surf scene as well as custom hot rod upholstery. Clutch Rider typifies the sort of instrumental one heard in the background in the 60's teen movies. I like Speed Shifters for its rockabilly feel. Great cover, suitable for framing alongside Little Deuce Coupe. Definitely gotta get this one. Speaking of LDC, I had a knock-off Pickwick hot rod album in the early 60's entitled "The Deuce Coupes" and it was not anywhere as good as this. The only line I remember from any song is "she has a body by Fisher and a face like Frankenstein".

I'm reminded that Les mentioned to a news reporter at one of the conventions that Wendy was more of a Beatles fan than Beach Boys, and would sit quietly doing needlepoint (or similar, I forget) during a concert, but would always perk right up when they player "her" song!
I'm also reminded to finally get rid of the excess weight, take care of my blood pressure and beat back the cholesterol.
You'll be missed, our friend.

I was sitting with my wife in the stands at Candlestick Park in San Francisco in 1982 waiting for the Beach Boys to come on after the Giants game. Les walked by with a couple of friends, noticed my green BB tour jacket, introduced himself, and invited me to the first fan convention he was putting together in Oakland at the college of arts and crafts a couple of months later, which I went to and had a blast. We talked by phone a few times, sent a few items back and forth now and again, saw each other a couple more times at his conventions or Candlestick concerts, then fell out of touch. 20 years later we re-connected when Jan Berry died, and he asked me if I still had the jacket (I do, but darn it shrunk). Hadn't talked with him for a while, and now, dang, he's gone. One of my prize possessions is a tape of some Smile and Landlocked tracks he sent me, which also includes that radio interview he did when Dennis died and some live tracks from a Lake Tahoe show, when Brian sang "It's Just A Matter Of Time" (he called it "I'm Lost Without You") in big-band style. Simply put, Les was a great guy and it's terrible to hear of his passing. Best to his family.

Not to argue too much Sheriff-but is a medley ever a good thing? Personally-I feel that if a song is worth doing-than its worth doing the full song. Doing a medley is really Vegas cheesy...Just my opinion of course
Well, they do play the entire songs in the medleys, don't they? I think the main reason the medleys work is because of the relatively short length of BB songs. The way they connect them is IMO better than playing two minutes, stopping, starting a new two minute song, stopping, etc. Plus, the condensing of the subject matter (cars and surfing) allows them to address it and move on, instead of coming back to it sporadically throughout the shows. It kinda allows them to coordinate the setlist better if you will. I know there are several people here who don't like the medleys (mainly because they don't like Mike Love), but at every Beach Boys' concert I've ever attended (about 30), judging by the audience applause, they've been highlights. Good post. I like the hot rod/surf format since it allows so many songs to be played, and those are some of my top favorites.

Try doing a little very basic research first - like reading a book or two - and then consider if this question is worth asking for any purpose except to see your name on a screen.
No..just post a link of someone famous talking about Brian's mental state at that time. Ever heard of wikipedia? You can't always just barge into this board starting threads to demand information from the members. Nobody demanded anything. The guy just asked s simple question that he figured someone here could answer. Not everyone has all the books or videos at hand or the time to scroll through endless on-line sites, articles, etc. If you don't have time to answer, don't take more time writing a cranky response. Just leave it alone.

I'm a member of the Mike Love fan club. You get a membership card, and, up until a year or two ago, they would send out a newletter every few months with tour dates and Mike Love news items and the like. But the internet sort of made the newsletter worthless, the information would be months out of date and therefore "old news" by the time it arrived in the mail.
And all that for 14,50 $ ? $17.50

December 1983. I thought, man, the last 20 years went by fast, is it over already? Now its almost another 30 years later. And I just saw a great live half-century anniversary concert with four originals and an almost-original, which almost made it the good ol' days, under the circumstances, close enough, and nuthin' to complain about.

Technically anyone born in the USA to American citizens are Native Americans.
Thank you. My PC liberal friends go nuts when I call myself a native American.Naturally, i do it on purpose. No thank you. The term 'native born American' will do. They're really your friends? More-so than I would have ever imagined. Seriously, I get along with everybody. Even PC liberals. Heck, when I was a student at UC Berkeley around 1970 I even befriended a communist. A communist!! He liked the Beach Boys. What can I say?
