Have just heard Sail On Sailor on BBC 6 Music, presenter Lauren Laverne dedicated the song to a listener who requested some Dennis Wilson, so their choice was SOS ! Have Tweeted them to point out that there's plenty of actual Dennis performed/written songs they could've played instead - what would everyone's choice of Dennis cut be for a Monday morning ?

I've had Celebrate the News stuck firmly in my cerebrum since I recently discovered it. (No idea how an actual released B-side slipped under my radar till a month or so ago -- that'll teach me not to branch outside of released albums/SMiLE sessions.)

As long as you haven't been listening to other artists' work as well, you'll get away with it this time.

There are, yes. They're called Van Dyke Parks and Gary Usher. But stick to your Beach Boys records, kid.

What's some good work by Gary Usher besides the early stuff he did with Brian? I haven't really delved into any of his work. I've actually got a random "6 degrees of separation" kind of connection to him. My friend's sister dated one of his sons for quite a while. One of the nicest people I've ever met. Haven't sen him in a couple years though.... Before I was really into the Beach Boys. Their resemblance is uncanny.

It's just production work, mostly. His work on The Notorious Byrd Brothers is A+, as well as other Byrds rekkids. There was a pretty good comp of his production/botched solo projects on Spotify, but it's disappeared Pardon my poor excuse for a joke, though

I like the Beatles a bit more than the Boys of Beach, I think Brian's band is the tops---really amazing. And finally, I'm liberal. That's it.

I'd kill to hear a sweet falsetto Brian lead on that one.

It was something the Pendleton company did for its 100th anniversary in 2009. Don't think they're available any more. Mike was most interested in it: "who are those young guys... think they'll amount to anything ?"

Though on Pendleton's site it's no longer listed as limited edition. That's what I spent entirely too much of my Christmas money on. But I love it so much. Ultra comfortable and warm. They jacked the price up by 6 bucks though, so buy it now before they do it again!

In what songs does Mike sing falsetto? I can only think of All I Wanna Do and that god awful squack at the end of Student Demonstration Time.

Er, only a little album by Sagittarius called Present Tense, and you can't really call yourself a fan of West Coast music till you've heard that. Of course the other big player in Sagittarius was Curt Boetcher. You'll really want to check out his work for The Ballroom and, of course The Millenium's Begin (but you've got to have heard that, eh?)
