Via lots of soundcloud interconnections I found a band "The Sunny Boys". Was amazed by their BBs renditions of Surfin' Safari & Barbara Ann, so I also checked their self-penned songs, & one of them featured the line about the BBs at 37 sec. mark:
https://soundcloud.com/thesunnyboys/03-the-sunny-boys-mahalo
Nice song, the a cappella intro is terrific, kind of reminisces "Island Girl" (although I'd say it about 80% of "Mahalo", steel drum solo & all). Even the singer sounds like a cross between Al & Bruce. That being said, there's 1 thing better than on "Island Girl" - accordion instead of saxophone. Added some sweet touch to the tune.
the sunny boys are killer, great italian group that began as a beach boys tribute.

"Pop Tarte"----Baby Lemonade
Cool to see this one mentioned....I had a very minor role in writing this song, though I didn't realize it name-checked the Beach Boys. The song itself is about a local musician who played in a few semi-known L.A. bands in the '80s and '90s.

Recent song "Calipopicana" - Kylie Hughes.
And, found this VA collection called "Surfonic Water Revival". The page says it's dedicated to Carl, while paying tribute to surf music. Some of it is direct, some a blend of ska & surf (example).

Take a close look at titles.

1. In Sonic Youth's Tunic (Song for Karen), Kim Gordon relates, "I'm in heaven now - I can see you, Richard/Goodbye Hollywood, goodbye Downey/Hello Janis, hello Dennis, Elvis". Since the middle Wilson also features in the video to Sonic Youth's Teenage Riot, I think we can be pretty confident that "Dennis" is our man.
The Guardian reprinted a 1990 article about Sonic Youth, which says:
Quote
....the video for the next 45, the Karen Carpenter tribute Tunic, has already been shot and that’ll feature no end of stars.
“We did it at the university in Boston,” explains Thurston. “..... It’s got a lot of cutout figures and puppets – a little like Sgt Pepper’s. We all play different people. I play Richard Carpenter, Kim’s Karen, Lee’s Elvis and Steve’s Dennis Wilson.
“Steve had to be Dennis, because he’s the only one in the band who’s ever surfed. How could anyone play a Beach Boy without having surfed?”
The article:
http://www.theguardian.com/music/2015/jun/10/sonic-youth-1990-say-are-you-anti-american-i-think-its-pretty-cool-people-should-be-anti-american

Jackie DeShannon's "Boat to Sail".
Lyrics include "Brian Wilson songs are never left behind. Don't you worry, baby, you're a friend of mine".
Brian and Marilyn Wilson provide the background vocals.
Real nice song

Was just re-listening to an album by pete yorn from 2001 and a song says "He’s talking out of the left side of his mouth" and the song is called "murry" so i googled it and apparently pete yorn read "heroes and villans" and wrote the song about murry (and brian i think)
Just looked for a video of it and check this out, he projects a picture of murry behind him while he sings the song:

I see PY calls it "Murray". Thank you! I'm always moved by the affection Murry has been shown at times over the years.

Youre right, i thought he spelled it Murry but the fan who uploaded it spelled it wrong, but now im looking at my CD and he spelled it Murray. Wonder if that was intentional or just a screwup?
Thats a great title for a song about Murry...just looked up a cover of the orignal "two-step side-step"...wow...its so square compared to the BB music

Ha! After a whole year I found a new song, "Farmer's Daughter" by The News, that mentions "The Beach Boys" in the lyrics (here just after 0:20). I'm now up to
98
songs that do this (with or without the "The"). Hoping to hit treble figures soon!
