What’s your favorite final song on any record? Tomorrow Never Knows is a perfect closing track for a perfect pop album.

‘Time of the Season’ from Odessey and Oracle by the Zombies.
‘Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands’ from Blonde on Blonde by Bob Dylan.
‘Funky Pretty’ from Holland by The Beach Boys.
Completely agree with Tomorrow Never Knows. I’d add ‘A Day in the Life’ to that as well.

God must’ve smiled the day Brian Wilson was born!

A Day In The Life is truly epic, great choice. I’ll throw in The End as well, the true closer to Abbey Road although Her Majesty is catchy.
Also, ‘You Can't Always Get What You Want’ from Let It Bleed by The Stones and ‘King Harvest (Has Surely Come)’ from The Band’s eponymous album.

Good call, BL.
Three that immediately come to mind:
- "The End" (The Doors song)
- "Kandy Korn" (on Captain Beefheart's
Strictly Personal
). That final instrumental workout takes album closers to another level:

- "When The Levee Breaks" (
Led Zeppelin IV
). Putting "Stairway To Heaven" at the end of side one rather than side two was a stroke of genius. Bonham's drumming on "WTLB" is to
die
for:

As for Beach Boys albums, "Surf's Up" is about as good as it gets. I also have a soft spot for "The Shift" on their debut, as its unique harmonic structure gives an inkling of what Brian would be capable of in the years to come...

My favorites in no particular order:
Tomorrow Never Knows - Revolver
A Day In The Life - Sgt Pepper
Caroline, No - Pet Sounds
Randy Scouse Git - Headquarters (Monkees)
Star Collector - PACJ (Monkees)
I Can Tell - Resigned (Michael Penn)
The Luckiest - Rockin The Suburbs (Ben Folds)
Glory Box - Dummy (Portishead)

If
That's Why God Made The Radio
sadly does end up being The Beach Boys' final album of brand new material, I can't think of a better album closer in all of music history than "Summer's Gone," although "Southern California" from
Lucky Old Sun
would be a close second for me.

There's also "The Rumor", the last track on The Band's third album
Stage Fright
. It's the only track to incorporate anything of the vocal interplay all over its predecessors. And those three closing thumps have something
very
final about them:

This must be the most unsettling pop album closer ever:

"Surf's Up" ?

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Speaking of Surf's Up, it was just played on the radio, WXPN. Always a nice surprise.

I don't really think of Funky Pretty as an album closer, because I always play Mount Vernon and Fairway after it. Surf's Up and Caroline, No are pretty hard to top as album closers.
from the Bobster, Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You, Wedding Song, and Every Grain of Sand are great album closers. Hard to beat A Day in the Life from the Beatles. And after the long dive that is "The Beatles" - nearly 2 hours of music - Good Night is a perfect way to end that odyssey.
