There's always a chance that new SMILE stuff will surface. I don't count on unheard recordings in the near future, but have a vision that one sweet day a long interview with Brian from 1966/67 will turn up with detailed infos about SMILE.

Official Capitol line: "We have no plans now, or in the immediate future, for such a release"
Unofficial fan line: "If you think Capitol would let the 40th anniversary pass without SOME KIND of release, think twice"
I have no insider information, just what I was told years ago prior to the release of BWPS, and things very well could have changed in the meantime.
If only BBCentral would open in time for SMiLE's 40th........

Not much "new" has surfaced in Alan's vault search, unfortunately - he's mentioned how many of the Smile tape boxes are empty. My hope is that eventually someone will collect and archive the acetates from Brian, Parks, Marilyn, Love, Al et al because I suspect there may be some mindblowing surprizes there - like the March Heroes. alternate completed mixes of Wind Chimes, missing vocals to I Ran (Look/song for children), I'm in Great Shape, and Cabinessence, to name a few.

So....we think Capitol's unofficial word is that they'd like to do something for the 40th anniversary of something that didn't happen, or are we looking ahead to 2044?

Not to be Mr. Eeyore, but I think that #1 in Capitol's marketing plans for next year might just be the 40th anniversary of an album that actually was released in 1967.

Anyone care to speculate why an effort to audition Durrie and Al's acetates was not made before Smile '04? You would think that BW and Van Dyke would want to hear that stuff before they jumped head first into writing new stuff for Smile.

Heaven - No need - pre-loaded complete SMile is part of the basic package.
Hot Place - Currently only "Summer In Paradise" is availible for DOWN-load.
