OK, I'm gonna take this even further - what's wrong with "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Wrinkles"??  (I haven't heard those two either...)
527  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / OK, I just have to ask... on: February 08, 2006, 08:05:40 AM
I've never heard "Hey Little Tomboy", but read the lyrics of the album version.  I've also heard over and over about how bad the original, unreleased version was.  Anyone care to elaborate??
528  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What the hell is this guy's deal?? on: February 08, 2006, 07:57:30 AM
So, is it safe to guess that his "Pied Piper" CD probably sucked??
529  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: What the hell is this guy's deal?? on: February 07, 2006, 07:21:35 PM
I'm hoping for Billie Piper, myself  Roll Eyes

HEY KID, GET AWAY FROM THAT THING!  DON'T PUT YOUR TONGUE ON IT!!.... What the hell is that??
530  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wierdest BB Comp Tracklistings on: February 07, 2006, 03:37:53 PM
I don't understand why we need all these stupid compilations... just put out the boxed set or three Greatest Hits CD's and shut the hell up already!

Same with the Beatles.  The only compilation worth getting (non-Anthology) was the "Yellow Submarine Songtrack", because everything was a different mix.  Stupid CD's like "One" are unnecessary.
531  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / What the hell is this guy's deal?? on: February 07, 2006, 03:34:59 PM
I tried emailing the guy who created the "Last Smile Of the Pied Piper" fan-mix, and got this wacked-out response:

"im afraid im not allowed to talk about the pied piper
as much as it was a most interesting phase in my life
ive locked the door on it
its all mish mash unlreleased and rare stuff
that was a hobby project only
when eye was putting it together
i often get all the information eye needed from
the smile shop message board
eye dont visit brian wilson or beach boys message boards anymore
but if u were interested in the piper
thats where u might find someone that knows somthing about it"

Does anyone know this guy?  What the hell is his problem??  He's 'not allowed to talk about' something that he made?  WTF?!
532  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Odd "Heroes And Villains" sections?? on: February 06, 2006, 06:08:43 PM
I'd love to hear a 12-minute "Heroes", if it wasn't just all a bunch of random segments taped together (like the 10-minute variations on bootlegs).

How is that 15-minute "Good Vibrations" on the one Smile mix??
533  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Wierdest BB Comp Tracklistings on: February 06, 2006, 06:07:00 PM
I saw a "Beach Boys Greatest Hits" at a used CD store that was just a bunch of instrumentals from 1961 or thereabouts... no 'hits' at all.

I also think there's one that inadvertantly includes "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena", and not the Beach Boys' cover.
534  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Beach Boys albums as gifts? on: February 02, 2006, 09:22:12 PM
I'm kind of like that, it depends on my mood.  Sometimes I listen to "Feel Flows" and really study the words, and something I just think "MAN, I GOTTA CRANK THE BASS!"

Either way... that song has cool bass.
535  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Odd "Heroes And Villains" sections?? on: January 27, 2006, 08:49:36 PM
That sounds like it would work... I'll try to track that one down.

I take back my thought that inserting "Fire" would sound cool... I just stuck "Heroes And Villains Intro" after 'you're under arrest', and it sounds horrible there!
536  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Odd "Heroes And Villains" sections?? on: January 27, 2006, 08:20:14 PM
What out-of-the-ordinary sections have you heard in fan reconstructions of Heroes And Villains, and where in the song did they occur?

I heard of one that put the 'intro' from the boxed set after "You're under arrest!"  That actually sounded like a pretty good idea... sort of like a madcap Keystone Cops-type chase in the middle of the song.
537  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Origins of Brians '80s' voice on: January 26, 2006, 10:43:34 PM
You know what's sad?  He'll never ever get the chance to experience the beauty of his own music in stereo.  "Pet Sounds" is *nothing* unless it's in stereo.  (Debatable yes, but I hate the mono versions.)
538  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Fake "Landlocked" ad... scans?? on: January 26, 2006, 06:54:51 PM
In David Leaf's book, there is a mock-up of an ad for "Landlocked", using a bunch of fake song titles.  Does anyone have a scan of this ad?
539  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / "Battle Hymn" and "Wrinkles"... on: January 26, 2006, 04:52:20 PM
I keep hearing how bad "The Battle Hymn Of The Republic" (BB's) and "Wrinkles" (Mike) are... what's wrong with them, anyway??
540  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Favorite non-Smile unreleased album? on: January 26, 2006, 01:41:14 PM
Since most of the BB's unreleased albums have escaped into the bootleg circuit, what is your favorite one, excluding "Smile"?

This is all of the available ones, I think...
*  Live In Michigan (bootlegged as "Mike Love, Not War")
*  Lei'd In Hawaii (bootlegged as "Aloha From Hawaii...And Hollywood")
*  Wild Honey (original - unbootlegged, but can be done by hand... I think)
*  Reverberation (unbootlegged[?], but can be done by hand)
*  Add Some Music
*  Landlocked
*  New Album
*  Adult Child
*  Merry Christmas From The Beach Boys
*  Bamboo (Dennis solo)
*  California Feeling
*  First Love (Mike solo)
*  Country Love (I doubt anyone will pick this... I hear it sucks  Roll Eyes)
*  The Wilson Project (Brian solo)
*  Sweet Insanity (Brian solo)

I've only seen the Smile documentary so I don't have much to compare to, but did he always only talk out of one side of his mouth?  I just wondered, because hearing the old outtakes where he speaks (like the piano rendition of H&V) that didn't appear to be so.  It just seems like now he actually *sounds* like someone who is partially deaf, whereas in the early days, you couldn't really tell.
542  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Beach Boys albums as gifts? on: January 26, 2006, 08:30:23 AM
What BB albums have you given as gifts to people, and what did they think about them?  (Silly question I know, but I just wondered...  Wink)

I gave "Smile" to an old high school teacher... it was the Purple Chick version, but I touched it up a little to smooth out some of their mistakes (like the horrible slow-down effects).  He thought it was okay, but "the harmonies got repetitive."  (??)
543  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Kokomo Motorcyle Monkey on: January 24, 2006, 08:32:18 PM
*slaps forehead*  Well, it's not as bad as the 'Tubthumping Gorilla'...
544  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / If you could change Smile... on: January 24, 2006, 07:46:09 PM
If you could change and alter Brian's "Smile" before its release, what would you change?

I would've gotten rid of the useless, irritating "I'm In Great Shape" medley and just started the third part with Vega-Tables.  Otherwise, it's fine.   Roll Eyes
545  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Teeter Totter Love?? on: January 24, 2006, 07:43:58 PM
No, it's just "On A Holiday", I think.
546  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Teeter Totter Love?? on: January 24, 2006, 08:17:30 AM
Yeah, I'm well aware that it's not real.  I don't appreciate being spazzed at either...
547  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Teeter Totter Love?? on: January 23, 2006, 07:50:10 PM
Yes I know, I'm going to make the title track myself based on the description of it.  (It was similar to "Tomorrow Never Knows" and had animal sounds.  I.e., acid trip version of "Barnyard".)
548  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which Beach Boy song is the theme of your life? on: January 23, 2006, 04:02:25 PM
"Feel Flows"... I heard it in 'Almost Famous', and I completely latched onto it.  What a masterpiece.

I would also pick "Heroes And Villains".
549  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Origins of Brians '80s' voice on: January 23, 2006, 04:00:29 PM
I'm thinking age.   Just listen to Roger Waters nowadays, he actually *sounds* like an old man.  ("Amused To Death" is a great example.)

I haven't heard anything of Brian's recently except "Smile", and I thought he sounded pretty good, even on the live DVD.  Certainly not the "classic" Wilson voice, but pleasant enough.
550  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Teeter Totter Love?? on: January 23, 2006, 03:57:18 PM
I'd really like to try my hand at being the first to reconstruct the "Remember The Zoo" LP, but I hit one snag... is 'Teeter-Totter Love' available on any bootleg???  That's the only track I can't find.

As for the nonexistent title track, I have some ideas up my sleeve  Wink
