box set price on amazon now at $97.99 that is one huge price drop......
Deep Discount is selling it for an amazing $87.74! http://www.deepdiscount.com/cd/BEACH-BOYS-SMILE-SESSIONS-5099902765822I was lucky enough to have my wife get my copy from them for only 89.99 as a Christmas present. Absolutely fantastic package, even though I'll probably never play the vinyl. It's wonderful to have the LP just to hang up on the wall over my desk right next to my Pet Sounds LP.

They didn't "jack" the price, they returned it to their normal price. You didn't think it was going to stay at $97.99 forever, did you?

Finally got my box, and my vinyl sounded amazing on my turntable. The whole packaging was great along with the booklet with all the unseen SMiLE era photos.

Think the records [minus Social Security numbers] and tapebox photos will ever be available on-line or for sale for study? Gaw, I'm such a nerd.

None. You've wasted your money. It's all the group dicking about and recording pointless sections over and over again with no clear end in sight.

If anybody cares. I e-mailed metacritic and let them know that Mojo gave it 5 stars. They've since added it bumping the score up to 96/100 based on 22 reviews

I gotta say, one of the things I miss going from BWPS to TSS is the link track between Child and Surf's Up. That's such a beautiful piece of music.

What he said. +1. I never understood why some folks over time dismissed BWPS. Firstly, it is the template after which TSS (disk 1) was assembled. And secondly, the link tracks are truly both beautiful and functional. And thirdly, BWPS is a gorgeously performed song cycle in its own right. That is why BWPS is a historically very important release (with special emphasis on my first argument - because it is totally objective).

No, he invented it about 2 years earlier on All Summer Long with I Get Around, Little Honda and Wendy.

I am wondering... ... ... if Capitol is "done" servicing this boxset? For example, will it ever be reissued with just the 5 CDs, no LPs, and a smaller box size? Anyone?

I just want to say it's been almost 6 months and I still love this thing.
Anybody talk to Mark or Alan? Do they visit here? Or are they busy on future releases? Do they know that, despite our occasional nitpicking, that we all love the Smile box and think they did one hell of a job? Do they know they have provided up with years of musical entertainment to carry us through a future of uncertainty and evil? When will they sit us on their knee and tell us the tale of the "Child Is Father of the Man" acetate?

When I walk into a record store these days the first thing I check out is what they have SMiLE-wise. Do they have the box? The vinyl? The two cd set?
If they have them I dig how Frank Holmes' cover artwork trumps anything else ever made & think of how better the SMiLE music is to any of the pop offerings available since.
