That was a great interview. Mike and Brian were great, Brian told his Elvis karate story and it killed Fallon, and the whole thing was one of the better Beach Boys interviews of the past 30 years or so...
Blown away.

Unbelievable interview, at least for me to see both of them up there. Brian was very relaxed it seemed. Joking around, great Elvis story. Loved him and Mike talking about the harmonies and Brian's ability. They will be singing next!!

Brian's back must be really bad. Enjoyed the interview. I think a lot of people will find Brian awkward (non-BB fans), but for us, he seemed pretty good. Proud of them.

A very warm interview. Brian and Mike play off of each other nicely, kinda like old guys tellin' war stories.
Brian reminds me of an old attorney who shared a space at our office. Big, stocky feller in his 70's - didn't always talk much, but one look into his eyes and you could see a mischievous glint, and a story comin' on.

It's tough to realize these guys are in their 70's, when you hear the records they will always sound in their 20's.

I got misty during That's Why, those old guys were feeling that tune.

I also liked that pretty much everyone sang every line ...
And no f*cking autotune, and it sounded f*cking fine. Take that, f*cking Joe fucking Thomas.

they've had a lot of shaky moments when they do TWGMTR live too. It's tough to do that much harmony on a song like that. Foskett reaaally has to anchor it

But that's fine. Yes, Brian was flat. That's how he sounds. That's how the guys sound. It's fine, and the passion they put into it more than made up for any technical deficiencies.
I would rather have a thousand "shaky" performances like that than a single one of the robo-Bri monstrosities perpetrated by the road crew.
This is how it's done.

Al's voice is just wonderful live. In the studio, I think Brian sounds lovely, and I'm sure Mike will sound pretty good on the record, but I gotta say Al sounds just like his younger self, even live. It's amazing.

When Jimmy said the guys had last been in the studio in 1968, was he referring to The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson?

TWG was pretty good. They had a couple rough moments in that one, but it was fine and they were into it. WIBN? Oh man, just awesome. They blew it out of the water.

"In My Room" was a superb start to the show.
Brian and Mike interview was decent enough.
"That's Why God Made The Radio" was a spotty performance and dragged a little too long.
"Wouldn't It Be Nice" was a great closer, even if half the band flubbed the second verse.
All in all a pretty good appearance.

They had shaky, flat vocal moments even in 1964.

Indeed a few shaky moments in both of the last two songs, but it's to be expected - that's live performance. I missed "In My Room", didn't know it would air as it did. They sounded
great
on the last couple songs, though. Any "shaky"ness was welcomed, as the mix was pretty good (and on a fucking late night TV show, of all places!) and I heard nothing remotely artificial going on.

Ditto on the autotune. Do it live, as Bill-O once said
I heard some rough patches on TWGMTR, but overall it was solid. There's so many voices weaving in and out, it's hard to focus on just 'who' sings lead at any given time, but I think that the song made a sweet impression - especially on the accapella final chord. Solid on the chord.
WIBN rounded things out nicely. So fine to see the 'Boys get their due and love on a teevee show.

Yes, Carson did 90 minutes out of that studio in New York until the show moved to Hollywood I think in '72 or '73 and it eventually got cut down to 60 minutes.
Nice to hear what song they did on Carson, I don't recall hearing that info before. or maybe I did and forgot...

I've seen all of those guys live in so many various configurations. This show was not all about BW so much as the Beachboys and their respective bands and vocalists ALL IN ONE PLACE! Al, Bruce, David, Mike, Darian, Jeff, Scott and Scotty, Mr Cowsill, the Wondermints...all in one KILLER show!
At this point, who could ask for more?

Yes, and Brian remembered it - he started saying the title of the song they played that night, just as Jimmy was saying it.
