What do you all think is the possibility of Bruce eventually writing a book? A book maybe about his work, or even an autobiography? He tossed around the idea, back in the day. But now, he said he probably won't.

I'd be more interested in a Bruce book than I am the forthcoming Mike and Brian books.
I want to hear Bruce's side of the story. All of it. He's seemingly lived a very fascinating life.

I bet if he ever retires from the act with Mike, he might write one, and it could maybe be a very balanced document of the band's history.

Things may have changed during the fifteen-odd years since I asked him about writing a book, but Bruce's response was along the lines of "not interested, but even if I did, The Beach Boys would be one chapter, maybe two." Which is a shame, I'd like to read about his 58 year career in music. Aside from the Dolphin incident, has to be some great tales lurking.

I asked him this exact same question in Manchester a couple of months ago and got more or less the same response. Seems like a memoir just goes against his nature which I can understand, but strictly as a fan it's a shame to imagine his stories and anecdotes and perspective not being preserved.

From a recent interview with Bruce:
“I’m not writing a book, ever,” he says. “I’ve been offered pretty good advances to write a book. But they want to hear about Charles Manson. They want to hear about Brian’s psychologist. They want to hear about the TMZ component of it. They don’t just want to hear about the beauty of the music and the craftsmanship. I really wouldn’t have much success with the book about the music, to tell you the truth. If somebody is smart they’ll round up all of my stories about the music and they’ll put it into something, but you just have no idea how much the publisher wants you to put the jive and the junk in that has nothing to do with the music.”

He really should do it. Write it the way he wants to, with the help of a hand picked editor, and shop it to publishers. I wonder what Mr. Stebbins has to offer on the subject? I could write the skeleton of the book myself starting with his childhood, on to his work as a Ripchord, and with Terry Melcher, onto first and second terms as a Beachboy, the in between years, his Grammy win, his unique role in the Beachboys, his acquaintances and relationships in the music business, his songwriting approach, the reunion, and sprinkle throughout tales of the road with the band. As we've discussed before, he is in a most unique position to write a history of not only the Beachboys but the whole music scene that emerged from LA in the 60's and beyond. He should get it written and release it after retirement if he is concerned about repercussions.

I think it could be a remarkable book if written from the perspective of being integral and a witness to so many different eras - he was right in the thick of the industry for a long, long time. Think of the mood that could be set. But his point about the "TMZ aspect" is probably valid.

Even a Beach Boy-less memoir would be fascinating, taking Bruce from 1957 to 1965. Don't know, though, if a publisher would be interested.

Interesting to note in that article, off topic though, is that Bruce says he hasn't spoken to the Beach Boys manager in 6 months. That is amazing to me. Only in the Beach Boys could you have one of the main members not have any contact with the band's manager for 6 months.

C'mon Bruce reconsider! There's your title..."The Jive and the Junk". Put a pic of the 70's Bruce with the porn mustache on the cover. Let's go Bruce, while we're still young!

Well, there is a book about Carl coming later this year. Mike has a book coming out, Brian had/has a book, Dennis, David, it's about time Bruce and Alan got their books, too.

A Bruce book about his music career & life would be well worth if it happened. Not just for his life in the BB, but his music roots and experiences prior. I would also be interested in a Jardine book. However, I doubt any would happen. One can hope I guess, aha!

Hi all,
It would be great if Bruce and Al did write books. That commnet Bruce made about people wanting to hear about Manson, Landy and TMZ is 100% correct. They can only talk about all three for so long. I would like to learn Al's and Bruce's side of things. Then we will have the complete story. If people want to learn about Manson there is always google and bing. Same with Landy and TMZ. I would like to read about the feelings Bruce and Al had and their backgrounds. It would be great to see their soides of what went on with and inside The Beach Boys.

Is there any chance because Bruce is "not" a principal, that he can't write a book because he has signed a confidentiality agreement with the touring Beach Boys apparatus ? And his reasons for not writing a book are somewhat a cover for his legal inability to write a book at this time ? Just me asking......
Feel like I've read here over the years about the "gag" put on members of the backing band over the decades ?

Although he relinquished his corporate vote, for all other intents and purposes, Bruce remains a principal. He - or any of the others - can write what he likes, when he likes. Whether that would be a sensible thing to do remains open to question.
