The very things the fans would like to see you mean? To make something special 'Special'.

I wish I could remember who said it and when, but I recall a interview in the early 80s when a member of the band said 'the Beach Boys are unmanageable'. It made them seem more trouble than the Sex Pistols.  Grin

Today Jay Jones comes up although I think Mike would be the hands on guy.

If I am honest, I havn't bought the last album WITH Brian!

Seems to me with this group, and it has a lot of members, they must have some song writing ability amongst them surely.

I've heard bits of Taylors solo album and while it had some Brian Wilson content, nobody would call it his work in any way. Just a helping hand and a bit of encouragement. Maybe he could do something similar for the whole group.

Of course as they were titled with the Wondermints tag for years, the Brain Wilson Band would be a harder name to shake.

Nice to know the car is still being cared for.

I could see a 'Snakes and Ladders' kind of game!

Dennis mentions to Brian...'Hey, You should write a song about surfing!' (up a ladder) Smiley
Al starts singing 'Help Me Rhonda', then Murry enters the studio.( down a snake) Sad

As much as I would hate to sound critical about Brians band, as I think they are great, are the GH's tours just a job creation scheme for them?

Brian doesn't need the tours or should IMO so is he being used to keep them in a job? If so it is a shame. For a band once described as 'the best in the business' by Paul McCartney to be unable to make a living without Brians name is a indication how tough the job can be I guess.

I wonder how good a group album minus Brian, other than as a guest co-writer for a few tracks, could be?

This Willie Nelson 'Warmth Of The Sun' track with Matt. No Carl unless he was added later. (some here could tell by the mix I guess)

Anyway, should a new track ever happen, this is likely the sound we would have IMO.

Great thread!

The question was asked earlier about what role Brian could play onstage at any reunion. I have no problem hearing him sing Carls leads. In fact it would be easier on his voice than a full BW set list as he tires near the end of his solo shows IMO.

Oh wait...they were yesterday.

Todays Mike Love BB reunion mention. New recording possible.

“We’re looking at doing a 50th anniversary celebration in 2011, and that would entail seeing what we could get together and do recordingwise,” he said. “And the PBS show ‘American Masters’ is interested in doing a documentary about the band. There are a lot of interesting possibilities likely to manifest in the near term.”

No bashing intended AGD. From memory the poster was mainly critical of the quality of venue Mike and Bruce were playing then (3-5 years ago).

FYI I gave dates and venue from my old BBFUN news letters of casino appearances dating around 1981.

For what its worth, for a band that once sang at a presidential inauguration to now accept bookings for private gigs in run down neighbourhood parking lots at the same time as the lead singer is talking of playing the Hollywood Bowl and Wembley in the future...I'm astounded!

...The surviving Beach Boys, who now tour in three groups, are beginning to plan for a 50-year reunion that will include a concert at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, Calif, in February 2011....

I have to laugh as when Bruce used to post on 'Ego' he was very put out when someone was critical of some of the venues the Mike and Bruce played. The poster mentioned various corporate, casino, county fairs etc but playing the like of a 'Piggly Wiggly' upset him.

At the time that is!

The Beach Boys put on a free outdoor concert in a Mountain View parking lot Monday night, drawing at least 700 people to an event that most attendees heard about only by word of mouth.

Surf rock began pumping out onto Mountain View Drive about 8 p.m., drawing in passers-by who crowded along a perimeter fence at Lucky Strike Lanes and Lounge for a view of the famed band. Impromptu gatherings behind rundown buildings gave way to dancing as the band played its 1960s hits like "I Get Around," "California Girls" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice."....

Thanks for the reply. Can you recall what thread mentioned a Mike Love lawsuit over the BWPS album? I don't recall that one and would like to read some more.

I love this! LOL

Beach Boy Mike Love liked to tell people that Wilson once had a jukebox in his house, and that no matter which of 100 selections you pushed, “Be My Baby” was the only song that came out.  It sounded unlikely, but when I put the question to Wilson, he said it was absolutely true.
5073  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike now talking 50th Reunion with Brian on: August 31, 2009, 09:14:46 PM
Yeah, some sort of live release would be nice too. Any of the previously mentioned shows would be fine but if they weren`t to release a full concert, a double CD of songs from right through the band`s career including some of the rarer heard stuff might be interesting.

How about "The Beach Boys Presents SMiLE"?

Or even "The Beach Boys Presents Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE"?

 Grin

You know I have wondered about this for the last 4 years. Any chance that to get a BWPS deal Brian had to sign away any chance of a official Beach Boys SMiLE album or boxset in the future?

15 Little Ones? Grin

Come the 50th I see yet another compilation. 50 Biggest Ones type of deal with a extended EH DVD and good book.

And that ain't a bad thing! Smiley
