This is the first time I've heard the beach boys doing a parody of most anything, in this case some Dylan songs.  It's quickly jumped to top of my favorites and I just wanted to share with those who have not seen it.  It changed the way I look at them a bit.

Definitely see if you can get yourself a copy of Endless Bummer if you haven't yet. Some "good" stuff on that.

Sort of in regards to your posted link, there's a related video called God Only Knows (What I'd Be Without Jews). Not a very good song.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CovKq3QxFw

not a parody by the band, but I watched walk hard the Dewey cox story directors cut, and i was shocked how accurately John C. Reilly and the film makers spoofed smile. Some of that dialog was so well written in referencing the project (heroes and villians recording)

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

It's brilliant. You know the song they do was written by Van Dyke Parks, don't ya?

i know he did write that song Smiley, and thought Mr. Parks outdid himself writing a spoof of one of his greatest works , i just thought the dialogue was spot on spoofing smile to the point where i think the writer was a fan of the Beach Boys.

Oh absolutely, some of those lines were just so perfect that the writer must have had a fair amount of Beach Boys knowledge.

They should make action figures of the whole band with wacky accessories based off real life (Brian- Dr. Landy/ bed and bathrobe, Al- Milkcrate/ dental set, Dennis- Manson family/ women set, Carl- guitar set/ backing band, Mike- talking action figure with a wives set/wacky wardrobe, Bruce- piano to write mushy songs, and David- Murray Wilson talking action figure.)

No word yet as to when there will be a Van Dyke Parks action figure to argue with Mike about "crow cries"!

This is great! Where did you get the font?

You should get one of those Pet Sounds Brian dolls to pose with the Mike doll, and we could recreate the Inside Pop reels using stop frame animation.

Then send it to Alan Boyd for immediate inclusion in the boxset

This was always my favorite Beach Boys parody - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq_-zxPgFzE - Pancreas by Weird Al Yankovic, I'm sure most people have heard this now, very well done though.

Actually, I "made" the font out of the existing letters on the SMiLE cover.

As for the Mike doll, it is a Frankenstein of sorts - beard from early '70s GI Joe; "eyes" and wild clothes and hat from Ken doll "pimp daddy"; mic from Joey Ramone action figure...

Ha ha, that's a great idea with the Brian doll and Mike.  I might just do that!

Just found the perfect model for a Van Dyke Parks action figure...so it will be following soon!

It's the "Don't F**k With The Formula" that really makes it.

Very very funny......and you have way too much time on your hands.

I think Mattel should employ you to make the SMiLE era Barbie and Ken set. I can see the Laurel Canyon house set now. Vosse Posse figures not included.

I'd actually buy one of those.  Grin What I would really love to have, is a circa 1981 300 pound Brian action figure sitting down at the piano, complete with greasy dirty hair, a bushy beard with pieces of food stuck in it, and the white shirt he wore at the Long Beach show.  Grin
