"Heavenly Father" by the Supremes with Flo on lead, particularly the middle eight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gB_jRWIFA44
I'm not allowed to hear it, unfortunately, but I did catch a few seconds of it here (no middle eight, sad to say):
http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B003LYZWAU/ref=dm_mu_dp_trk38
Very nice indeed. That's when they were The Primettes, right?
Not sure. I have it as a bonus track on a reissue of Florence's solo album. It's an older song, so there may be other good versions of it out there.
Not sure how much of this is reliable but it makes for an interesting read:

This Mary Wilson-led B-side from 1960 is pretty cool:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK5CmbFbYII
That flute reminds me of the alternative version of the Boys' "I'm So Young". Great piano too...

Found this cool track in Winamp by typing "doo wop":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2ptDgMOzc0
Lead by Earl Carroll, sings "...but my real name is Mr. Earl". After the Cadillacs would join the Coasters.

A doo wop classic!
This next one has always intrigued me. "Daddy's Home" has a most curious history attached to it:

Here's one I was alerted to only today. "You" by The Aquatones features the dulcet tones of 17-year-old Lynne Nixon (see the wiki page). Their lone hit just missed the US top 20 in 1958. Truly wonderful stuff to melt the JK heart:

That compilation looks real good, I only have eyes for you is brilliant, its real spooky sounding, like something from outer space.
I love this 12-year-old description. Indeed, The Flamingos' wondrous "I Only Have Eyes For You" sounds like nothing on earth!

A similar one that I always loved and thought was just smmmmmmokey was "You Belong To Me" by the Duprees.... lots of others did it too.

Ron always did have good taste. I believe this group is a favourite of yours too, RR (thinking of that other forum)...

Indeed, it would be nice. But he hasn't put in an appearance since May 2016 so I rather fear he's left the fold.

That's the reason I left it blank. I've liked the versions I've heard. The Five Keys & The Spiders versions two that I really like.

Lots by The Spiders on YouTube...
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFPhURL_cI0KWPmK8GYdLo51Lqg3FeucC
...but not "RSITS". Pity.
I do appreciate the early things but it's "baroque" doo wop that really does it for me, stuff like Jive Five's "My True Story":

Ritchie Valens's ballad "Donna" has always seemed to me to be doo wop
sans
vocal harmonies. It's just the mood it projects; and the guitar lines suggest voices:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMcHbh6HBDk
Oddly, there's another doo-woppish song called "Donna" by 10cc:

Check out "Ten Commandments of Love" by The Moonglows. I consider it to be one of the few truly "perfect songs"(It's on par with God Only Knows, a few Beatles songs, etc). I was absolutely blessed to be able to witness Harvey Fuqua(who sang on the original record) and his Moonglows group perform this song in person.

Indeed, a wonderful song, Jay. I love those spoken "echoes"! To say nothing of the intro and the outro.
Wow, lucky you to have heard HF sing it live!

And I'm back to this song again today. "Since I Don't Have You" was next in line after I linked The Flamingos' "I Only Have Eyes For You" across at Hoffman...

I've recently become a bit can of The Flamingos. I got a CD of their that collects all the original singles(both A and B sides) from 1953-61, and I highly recommend it.

What I've heard of their other stuff wipes the floor with most other doo wop material but "IOHEFY" is in a field of one, in
any
context. So thanks for the recommendation, Jay, but I'll do my stick-in-the-mud act (again) and stick with that one otherworldly song--a little world all of its own which on entering you just don't want to leave--or I don't anyway.

I totally agree about IOHEFY! I consider it one of the greatest records of all time, by anybody. "Otherworldly" is definitively a great word to describe it. The whole mood of the song is quite eerie to me. And that high voice echoing in the background is downright hair raising! It's best listened to in the dark. But I also love "Golden Teardrops", and "Plan For Love".

Reading about "Fast Freight" (an instrumental by Arvee Allens aka Ritchie Valens), I noticed there was mention of Ritchie having played on stuff by stablemates The Carlos Brothers, not least the awesome "Tonight":

These are Lincoln Fig and the Dates (what's in a name?) singing "Way Up" (year unknown). If the group's name isn't bizarre enough, how about the first verse?
"Wo-o-o-ohhhhh
Way up in the sky
There is the girl I love
She kicked the bucket, she die"
What???!!!
Lovely song though...
